The heavy calvary surrounded the archers. They moved forward. The Full Moon Formation was designed to have the defense protect the offense. The archers were perfectly protected by the shields from the heavy calvary.
Chen Chengxian flicked the reins. "Ch! Ch! Ch!"
He and the three generals took off while Li Yingshan and Miao Chuntao stayed behind. They watched as the Battle of Huaibei began.
Soldiers from both sides rushed towards each other. Screeches of steel rang out across the field as swords scraped against swords. Yells of fury rose up from both sides. Arrows flew from the archers' bows, still safely within the Full Moon Formation.
On the enemy's side, General Ru's eyes narrowed. What sort of tactic is this? I've never seen it in all my years of being in the military. I must be cautious. I've never known the Ninth Prince to be an expert in military strategies. So he must have an expert strategist on his side.
The Full Moon Formation quickly proved itself to be worthy of being a tactic from Moonlight Pagoda. Arrows hailed down, almost constantly, on the enemy's light calvary. The heavy calvary slashed their way through a great many of their opponents.
Back at the camp, Li Yingshan smiled. Miao Chuntao saluted to her.
"Goddess, your Full Moon Formation is a lifesaver. So many of the enemy's troops have died. And we barely have any casualties."
"That was the point. But I know General Ru from before. I know he'll be hiding something. Some trump card. That's why, I have one of my own," she said as she smirked.
Miao Chuntao nodded. "They know the signal. When you give it, they will come and help."
"Good."
Li Yingshan's gaze rested on the battle before them. Though she itched to join in on the action, she also knew that if she made a move, it might reveal her to General Ru.
And for now, people still need to believe I'm dead.
The battle waged on. Soldiers fell. The sun arched from the east to the west. As the sun began to set, General Ru surged out onto the battlefield. Despair filled Chen Chengxian's heart. He knew how strong and powerful General Ru was.
General Ru had grown up in the Jianghu, learning martial arts from a very young age. His battle prowess was due to this. A legendary general, it was said that whoever was unfortunate enough to meet his blade would see King Yama's Kingdom in an instant.
Chen Chengxian was about to give the order to retreat when a screech resounded from above. Looking up, many soldiers saw a large Chinese Grass Owl flying over head. The owl dove straight for General Ru. Just then, thirty five martial artists flew down onto the battlefield. Swords, daggers, ribbons, fans, and other hidden weapons shot out from their hands. General Sun, General Dai, and General Wan were stunned. Chen Chengxian's eyes fell on a woman standing in front of their encampment. Still donning her veiled cone hat, she tipped her head in acknowledgement.
"Attack!" he roared. "Never give up!"
His men chanted, "Sha! Sha! Sha!杀 shā - means "kill""
With a renewed vigor, they fought with all their strength. But with the martial artists' aid, the enemies slowly grew less and less. Realizing his loss, General Ru called for their retreat. Once they had left, Chen Chengxian laughed heartily.
The troops all returned to the camp, greeting and praising Li Yingshan. She approached the Ninth Prince and bowed.
"Your Highness, congratulations on your victory today."

The thirty five martial artists appeared and saluted to her. "Goddess, it was an honor to fight for you."
"Yes, thank you. Hopefully, your lives here in Huaibei will be better now."
They departed, and Chen Chengxian gave her a confused look. She chuckled.
"They owed a favor to Moonlight Pagoda. I called upon that favor. Thanks to them, you won today."
He shook his head and clasped her hands in his. "No, we won today. I couldn't have done this without you, Ms. Li. Thank you."
She smiled and pulled her hands back. A faint trace of sadness filled her eyes. "I'm a married woman, Your Highness."
He sighed. "I know. And you are very loyal to your husband, whoever he is. It's a pity we did not meet sooner."
Realizing his feelings for her, she blushed and looked down. "I made a promise to myself that I would never betray my husband again. I'm sorry, Your Highness, but in this lifetime, we can never be."
Chen Chengxian nodded. "I know. But at least I can have you by my side for now. When this war is over... will I ever see you again?"
"If you become Crown Prince, then our paths will probably never cross again. After this, I'm intending to return to my husband's household. My life is in the Jianghu. Yours is in the capital. We lead very different lives, Your Highness."
"I see. Then I must cherish having you with me while I can."
Slowly looking up, Li Yingshan said, "I'm sorry."
He shook his head. "Don't. I met you too late. That is my misfortune in this lifetime. Perhaps in our next life, we can be friends still."
She nodded. "I'd like that."
Holding out his hand, he hoped for her to take it. When she rested her palm in his, he felt his heart stir with warmth. He led her into the tent to review the battle with his generals and Miao Chuntao.
They talked for hours, finding their wrongs, and discussing what to do next. With Huaibei under their control, they didn't need to stay any longer. Finally, a decision was made.
Their next destination was one step closer to Luoyang: Shangqiu商丘 shāngqiū.
