"I hate you for demanding me to be a perfect child when you cannot be the perfect parents," Hu Che continued. The little guy is looking brave though Guan Xian could see his slightly trembling hand.
"I hate that you never attend me to any of activities, even though I've become the star of the show."
"I hate it when you two ask me to be considerate when you never tried to understand me."
"Why should I care about thousand of people in the company? Why should I give up my needs to fulfill their needs? Why can't I be selfish?" Hu Che asks, lowering his head as tears start to blur his sight.
He looks at his father's shiny leathered shoes. The flames that initially roar in his heart slowly dissipate when he sees his mother cry. His short leg suddenly felt funny as a sob escaped from his mouth, "I hate the fact that we have loads of money, and yet, we are poor."
"I have a mansion, but not a home."
"That's not all that I hate. Mom, Dad, do you know what I hate the most?"
"I hate that you lied about everything."
"Hu Che!" Hu Che's dad calls his name, carrying a fit of anger on his tone.
"Yes, Dad?" Hu Che shouted back. "Did I say something wrong? I could tolerate this obnoxious feeling of being lonely because I knew everyone made their sacrifices. At least, in the past, I knew that love present in our family. Before the separation."
Hu Che's exclamation silenced his parents.
"Yes, I know about the divorce."
Mother Hu tried to take a step closer to the stage, saying, "Parting does not mean that love does not exist. Hu Che, I hope-"
Mother Hu could not finish her sentence as their eyes met. Her face got shadowed by the shame of realization as she saw a weak smile appear on her beloved son.
"Hu Che! Mom is sorry," Mother Hu cried, finally breaking down upon her late awakening.
"Hu Che," Father Hu called his son in a guilty tone. A heavy burden for being a failure as a father weight on his shoulder.
Hu Che looks at his dear parents, sobbing as he drops the mic.
"I only want my mom and dad beside me. I don't need an apology. I've done everything I could to make you proud, and I will do more! But mom, dad, please don't leave me alone," Hu Che wept, sitting on the cold stage.
"I'm so scared," he bawled.
The sound of his sobbing rang in everyone's ears, causing an ache in every heart. Even Tang Yu Bin secretly wipe his tears. His parent instantly approaches him and pull the little guy into a hug, calming his own while apologizing.
Hu Che's statement got Guan Xian stunned. Although Hu Che seems to be a brutally honest kid around the Guan family, he was never good at confronting his parents.
Guan Xian took a glance at Xia Sha, who didn't seem to be surprised at all. At most, she looks nervous and expects something at the same time. With a slightly furrowed eyebrow, Guan Xian mouthed, "Don't tell me that you are the speechwriter?"
Xia Sha did not answer. She got enamored by Hu Che that she could not bother answering Guan Xian's question right now. Witnessing how passionate Xia Sha seems to look right now, Guan Xian felt amused and helpless at the same time.
"Hu Che- Daddy apologize for you for everything," Hu Che's father said, patting his back as he added, "Daddy is proud of you for today, thank you."
Mother Hu nodded her head, whispering apologized to her only son while her husband soothed her back.
Hu Che shook his head, resigning to his parent's warmth as he said, "Hu Che is also sorry for letting mom and dad down. I shouldn't make mom and dad sad."
"Well, I didn't expect that," Guan Xian mumbles as a big grin appears on his face. A sense of pride filled his chest while he turned to Xia Sha.
At the same time, Xia Sha is glancing at Guan Xian with a broken smile on her face. She let out a long sigh of relief before she said, "let's go home."
Guan Xian keeps telling himself as he quietly drives his car to Xia Manor. The nervous tapping on the steering wheel becomes concrete evidence of how hard he tries to understand Xia Sha's mood ever since they left the venue.
"I'm here with you. You should know that."
The skies seem to mirror his lady's colluded heart. It's gloomy and mysterious grey, hiding all the emotion within the heavy clouds. It's pretty apparent that Xia Sha is upset, and Guan Xian knew it's something to do with her parent's divorce in the past. And that topic will always be a wound in Xia Sha, heart.
Nevertheless, Guan Xian didn't want her to feel alone.
"I'm alright. I'm only wondering," Xia Sha hissed, turning to Guan Xian with a sudden smile. "Would it be different if I'm as bright as Hu Che? I've been looking at my life from the half-empty glass point of view. It's tiring."
The sudden spark reflected from Xia Sha's eyes caught Guan Xian off guard.
"Obviously. However, I hope you did not regret anything from the past," Guan Xian answered, glancing in Xia Sha's direction as he turned the steering wheel.
Xia Sha gives Guan Xian a gracious side glance, "Why? Because every little thing that happened to me led me to you?" She squinted her eyes, adding, "cliche."
Guan Xian let out a chuckle, indirectly claiming that Xia Sha had guessed right. Xia Sha smiles, leaning her head to the window. A random question popped out of her mind as she inquired, "When did you realize that you love me?"
Guan Xian got speechless by Xia Sha's sudden question. It took him a while to answer, but he sure put the widest smile on Xia Sha's face once he did.
"Remember when fate makes us meet in the outskirts? You are jamming out, secretly," Guan Xian chortled. "At one point, I'm so amused that I stop and watch you sing and laugh. It hits me then that I love you."
Xia Sha felt blood rushing to her head. It turned her cheek hot as she averted her gaze from Guan Xian's charming profile.
"Let me guess. You are blushing," Guan Xian teased right.
"Oh, shut up. We both know that is not the only pickup line you have. I wonder how many girls had a heart that?" Xia Sha replied, rolling her eyes to hide her skipping a beat heart.
Guan Xian clicked his tongue in disagreement, wrinkling his nose as he retorted, "That sounds like you are trying to hide that happiness with sarcasm. Not very nice."
"Uh-huh, I'm never nice," Xia Sha retorted.
"We both knew it's a lie. You are a little too kind for my liking. Hmm, you are too forgiving," Guan Xian taunted as the image of Xia Xiang appeared at the back of his mind.
Xia Sha raised her eyebrow at Guan Xian. Although she felt slightly insulted by his praise, something inside her is nodding along with Guan Xian. She is trying to find something in her memories, but nothing comes along the headache.
Guan Xian changed the topic, but Xia Sha's mind stayed on the uncomfortable feeling she felt. It's not until she got home and received a phone call from Xiao Zhan she could stop forcing herself to remember things she forgot.
Xia Sha half-heartedly answered the call as she lay on her bed.
"Xia Sha, I knew Guan Xian told everyone that you will take a leave until you recover, but I don't think this matter should wait and keep hidden from you," Xiao Zhan said the moment Xia Sha answered. He does not even bother to greet or ask about Xia Sha's condition.
Xia Sha was dumbfounded as she answered Xiao Zhan's sudden outburst. Why does she feel Xiao Zhan always appears out of nowhere to sprinkle some problem into her life? He is not necessarily is the problem, but somehow, he always had a way to deliver the bad news to her.
"... okay?" Xia Sha said, waiting for the bad news she needed to hear.
"I was hanging out in my friend's nightclub when I heard this woman talking beside our booth. She is the attending girl for some film director, I supposed. Now, I don't want to surprise you, but in the middle of the transaction, she mentions your name and something about a private video."
"What? What do you mean?" Xia Sha asked for clarity. She furrowed her eyebrow as she heard the news with new waves of headache.
"Well, she is talking about leaked private video, if you know what I mean. Do you, perhaps, ever made one?" Xiao Zhan asked carefully.
