Ayato and Avrora sat in a small jail cell. She sat on the small single bed, and he sat on the cold floor.

There was a blanket of silence between them when Ayato was the first one to speak.

Ayato glared at Avrora in an annoyed manner and said, "You didn't say anything about you being a criminal."

Avrora nervously laughed and replied, "It's a long story."

"It's a long story? Is that all you have to say?"

"Yeahhhh. It happened like a little bit over 500 years ago, so I didn't think that they would still be mad over it."

Ayato hung his head and replied, "You know what? I am not even surprised anymore."

Avrora warmly smiled and said, "You're a lawyer, right?" We should be fine."

"For the first and last time. I am a law student, and secondly, I don't have any clue when it comes to your spirit laws."

She laughed awkwardly and replied, "You simply jest, right?"

In a sarcastic tone of voice, Ayato answered, "Why yes, I jest. I am a top-rate lawyer who is very knowledgeable about your spirit laws."

"Ok, great. We're set then."

A few moments later, two guards dressed in all black appeared at the front of the holding cell.

One of them spoke up, "The Midnight Reaper, your trial is ready to begin." Then he opened the door.

The other guard placed handcuffs, which have the ability to sap the strength of anyone who tries to resist, around Avrora's petite wrists and motioned for her to move forward.

The first guard looked at Ayato and said, "Uh, you aren't charged with anything per se, but you're probably guilty by association, so you have to come as well."

A look of disbelief appeared on Ayato's face as the same handcuffs were placed around his wrists.

"Oh look, you guys are twins now," commented the second guard.

Ayato faked laughter for a few moments, but as soon as the guards turned their backs, his face became serious.

They were led down a long, winding hall which stretched for what felt like hours. Finally, there was light at the end of the tunnel. No, like literally, there was light coming from the courtroom of the building they were in. As they entered the room, Ayato and Avrora were greeted by uneasy stares and serious looks.

The majority of the people in the courtroom were dressed in the same uniform as Sayuri. a long-sleeve white shirt, a gunmetal grey tie, and long black pants.

The guards led the pair before the judge, who sat in a high chair.

The seated judge has tanned skin, short blue hair, and light blue eyes.

"You all may be seated."

As soon as Ayato and Avrora prepared to take their seats, he stopped them.

"No, no, you two can stand."

Avrora whispered to Ayato, "I think we will be having an easy time here."

A male dressed in the previously stated uniform introduced himself as Yagi Madoka. He was a well-built male who stood at 5'11, with long black hair that was slicked backwards and black eyes. He had a devious aura about him.

"Your Honor, or as you are known by your Spirit Moniker, Blue Jinn, I would like to bring the case of The Laughing Nightmare vs. the People to a start."

Ayato leaned in closer to Avrora's ear and whispered, "So people do actually call you those names? I thought you were just messing with me."

She whispered back, "Yes. Why would I make a joke about it? And by the way, Blue Jinn is a yang spirit. "

Blue Jinn glared furiously at Avrora and said, "You may proceed."

Yagi took a bow and turned to the crowd, which were situated to the left and right of the courtroom. On the right side, Sayuri sat down and looked on with an emotionless look on her face.

"My fellow peers, as you are aware of what happened during the great spirit wars 500 years ago, it was dark times for all of us. The Yin spirits plotted to seize control of the human realm and possibly wipe out mankind because of greed. However, the brave yang spirits fought back against this in the defense of our sworn friends, which resulted in massive losses on both sides. The neutral spirits had no part in this as they just stood on the sideline and watched it unfold."

Yagi paused, then said, "All except for one of them who supported the Ying." while dramatically pointing at Avrora, who nervously swallowed her spit.

The crowd began to murmur amongst themselves and shook their heads at her.

Yagi continued, "Lady of the Wraith is one of her many spirit monikers, as she was revered as one of the more powerful spirits. However, in this realm she isn't a threat at all, nor can she find a way to return to the spiritual realm as she is currently banished. The Lady of the Wraith wholeheartedly agreed with the Yin to commit what we consider taboo, and that very thing is attacking the defenseless. I ask that we execute her for all the lives she has indirectly taken with her agreement."

Avrora popped up and said, "That's a bit too extreme, right Ayato."

Ayato shifted his eyes to the angry crowd and replied, "Well, you practically supported a war which could have led to possibly genocide of a race."

A voice said, "Maybe we're being a bit too rash here."

Ayato, Avrora, and Yagi turned their heads to the left, where they saw a man with his hands in his pockets as he walked slowly to the stand.

Yagi sighed and said, "Nobita Furusho, this is not the time to make these kinds of entrances."

Nobita is roughly 6'1 with an average body build, long dark brown hair, which he wore in a manbun, and chocolate brown eyes. He wore the same uniform as the other people in the crowd.

Nobita replied, "My apologies to the judge and to you, Yagi, but I was thinking that executing her isn't enough. We should get rid of any of her vassals as well."

Ayato's ears perked up when he heard those words, and he quickly blurted out, "I agree with Avrora on that point that it's a bit too extreme. Don't we even get a chance to defend ourselves in this place of fairness?"

Yagi replied, "I believe this is more of a biased trial than a hearing, so your arguments will have zero effect."

Nobita looked at Ayato closely and said, "I think the boy should state his argument. I am sure that it will be very compelling. Well, I hope it will be; otherwise, it's off with both of their heads."

Yagi shrugged his shoulders and said, "Ok, I don't see an issue, so you may bring across whatever pointless arguments."

Ayato slowly approached Blue Jinn, who was still seated in his high chair, and said, "Your Honor, Your Spiritual Highness, Mr. Blue Jinn, Gre-"

Blue Jinn stopped him and said, "Your honor will be just fine."

Ayato flashed a nervous smile, "As I am in whole hearted agreement that genocide is bad, but..."

Yagi interjected, "But what, Mr. Amaya?"

"But I think Avrora has learned her lesson. I mean, she has been locked away in a limbo-like place for 500 years and no human remembers her name, nor does she have access to her powers. So maybe I was thinking that you shouldn't execute me, uh no, I mean us."

Yagi shook his head and replied, "All I heard was a pitiful argument from a vassal trying to preserve his own life."

Avrora slightly raised her right hand, "If I may add something. I just want to say the Yin spirits came to me for support, but I wasn't fully listening to them, so in an attempt to get some alone time again. I just agreed with whatever they said."

The crowd gasped, and Sayuri shook her head in disappointment.

Ayato grabbed Avrora by her shoulders and shook her while saying, "Why would you agree to something without properly listening to it?"

Yagi cleared his throat, "Uh, so with that being said, I think we should end this case in favor of her execution."

As Blue Jinn was about to bang his gavel in agreement with Yagi,

Nobita said, "I object to that."
