As slash from the top, a blowpipe shot, a spear clad with some stinky leaves. All dodged. Time felt so slow when I concentrated on fighting.
Haaa, this is starting to get really easy.
‘I understand that this has gotten a bit too easy for us, but you might want to take this a bit more seriously. We are endangering our life, after all,’ parallel mind chided me harshly, telling me to stop letting my mind wander.
Well, even without any skills activated, these kobolds aren’t much of a threat to us.
‘You could at least try to help us figure [Unarmed Technique] out. Wasn’t that our reason for training these past two days?’
I’ve mentioned this before but upon returning back to the outside, the number of monsters I could fight increased dramatically. Admittedly, I wish most of these monsters would have been D rank, considering how levelling was an important goal for me. The higher their rank, the faster this procedure would go and the sooner I can evolve.
Nevertheless, it wasn’t all that bad. In these past two weeks, I have come to realize how belligerent and territorial some E ranks could be. They notice me entering their area, and they immediately try to intimidate me to leave, only for me to ignore them, leading them to attack me.
A prime example would be the flock of birds that attacked me two days ago. Gosh, their panicked retreat gave me a good chuckle, despite losing the battle.
So, from all of this, I knew I could use them to train myself. I wanted to try some aerial battle with those birds, but… too many of them. Still, practice made perfect, right? Improving skills and also learning how to fight was the goal here.
<Belzac Forest Kobold: A kobold that lives in the Belzac Forest that has adapted to the ecosystem of this environment. Rank E>
Kobolds. Yes, I still remembered the ones I met in the mountains. That memory still lingered in the back of my head. From what I’ve seen, orcs and kobolds were intelligent beings, but I wasn’t apprehensive of attacking them. Especially if they were the aggressors in the first place, like now.
I was about to take a break for the night when I noticed them trailing after me. I hid from their sights with my stealth skills and then surprised them when I reappeared from behind. I tried to intimidate them, to make them run, but once again, a lack of communication made me these kobolds’ enemy.
Well, what was done was done. Nothing I could do about it, so I decided to practice a few things related to skills on them. Mostly since the description of certain skills mentioned my own familiarity with the skill would increase its efficiency.
[Detection Sensor], [Prediction], [Accuracy Correction], [Presence Killer] and [Acrobatic] were all sense focused skills. While other skills improved with levels and stats, like [Intelligence] or [Vitality], sense focused skills could only become more effective by levelling the skills themselves and, well, mastering using them.
Think of training and stretching your muscles to achieve higher muscle power and flexibility or repeating a dance choreography a hundred times to have your muscles remember the movements. Eventually, not only would the efficiency increase but it becomes natural to you.
An example would be dodging attacks. [Evasion] acted as the training wheels. The System would give you an idea where to dodge and passively increase your Agility while dodging an incoming attack, but what if I turned the skill off? With [Prediction] and [Evasion] deactivated, I could hone my actual reaction time, which would translate when the skills are active during a real battle.
I’ve been doing this on and off over my time in this forest. The first few days were terrible, as I found it hard to dodge some attacks, receiving some nasty cuts I had to immediately heal up. It got better over time through diligence and perseverance, though.
Now, I also had to figure out [Unarmed Technique]. Despite increasing its level for these past two days, it has given me zero abilities, like [Spark Fire Dragon] would do. All of us were pretty much stumped.
These kobolds all had weapon abilities. I wish I could speak with them to learn the trick behind it, but we were prime past the stage for diplomacy.
Kinda disheartening.
<Acquisition requirement fulfilled. [Enhanced Auditory Sense Lv. 1] acquired>
Oooh. Easy. Didn’t even need to turn around. Akobold screamed so loud I didn’t even need to turn around to duck/
That was a bunch of rank Es for you. They might be stronger than a basic kobold, but quality still triumphed over quantity. Well, it was more like a dragon shouldn’t be losing against kobolds.
‘…So, stay focused if you don’t want that to happen!’ Manager Mind kept pestering me about it, so I decided to just listen to her.
Alright, alright.
I continued this for a few more hours and then took a break afterward.
<Experience has reached multiple breaking points. [Young Crimson Spark Dragon *] has risen from [Level 9] to [Level 10]>

<Acquired 400 skill points>
<Proficiency requirement fulfilled. [Humanize Lv. 3] evolved into [Humanize Lv. 4]>
<[Humanize (Minor)] inflicted on [Young Crimson Spark Dragon *]>
“Kraaaaaaaa…ahhhhh…aaaaaahhhhh.”
Sounds…better?
“Definitely. You even hit a note correctly.” #3 nodded.
#2 agreed and even pointed at my general appearance. “You’re even starting to look like a proper human… besides the fact that you’re still a chibi. Honestly, we look like a primary school kid.”
I guess she is right.
By leveling up [Humanize] once again, my humanized form had now reached an astounding age of six-year-old. With this change, also came a slight makeover. My appearance now resembled a bit like what you would imagine a dragonewt or a lizardman would look like, a two-legged reptilian humanoid.
The hunchback was finally gone, and even a couple human traits could be seen on me. Just imagine a normal six-year-old who had her skin covered in scales, scutes and bone plates. My body was still very top-heavy, my mouth still covered by a mask-like jaw plate, and my fingers still had those delightful claws. Add a tail and a pair of wings on the back and voila.
Without the hunchback, it was easier to balance myself using my tail and wings as a counterweight, so it was now possible for me to fight in this form. I wouldn’t, though. The [Humanize] penalties were still too bad.
I did wish I would grow taller soon, but my physical age was bound to the level of this skill. Aside from raising it, I haven’t found another way to age my dragonewt appearance. Maybe another factor would help? Like, maybe having my first birthday?
Oh, hungry~ Listening to my growling belly, I stopped daydreaming and continued cooking.
Serve ‘em up. Serve ‘em up. All the meats and treats. ♫
Slice and dice for all your eyes to see~ and into the spice bath it flees ♫
With a lift, it goes up, up, up! And with a shift, it goes down, down, down. ♫
Now it’s time to feast for my belly callllllls. Mamph. Mamph. Mamph. Slurp. Slurp. Slurp. ♫
Tada~
<Proficiency requirement fulfilled. [Cooking Lv. 6] evolved into [Cooking Lv. 7]>
<Spiced Rabbit Kebab: Rabbit meat skewered on a wooden stick that was cooked over a flame. Seasoned with a variety of spices from the Belzac Forest>
<Venison Steak glazed with Strawberry Honey Sauce: A lump of deer meat evenly seared to medium. For some reason, a glaze of strawberry and honey was added to this meal. The sweetness is overwhelming>
<Meat Paradise: A wooden bowl filled to the brim with a random assortment of cooked meat. Seasoned to rid itself of its natural smelliness>
Smelling the succulent aroma coming from these dishes, I shrieked a bit in excitement, wagged my tail uncontrollably, and clapped. Congratulations to myself for a job well done.
Thank you for the food!
I chowed down, abandoning most of the dining etiquette I’ve learned in my past life to fully enjoy my meal. I haven’t made any utensils yet, so I hope my etiquette teacher wouldn’t be too mad at me for this.
… Who was I kidding? That woman would make me go through hell, once again, for ruining all the effort she put into me!
Ahhhhhhh.
As my current [Humanize] form finally had proper hands, which meant thumbs, I could finally start doing more complex cooking techniques. It was simple housewife cooking I’ve learned from my Mama and nanny, but it was serving me very well.
With my crudely made wooden bowls and plates, I gave my dishes a more respectable appearance despite how amateurish the crafting was. Well, better than having to eat from the ground like a cavewoman! How beneath me, a proper young lady, to eat like a barbarian.
‘Kay, sarcasm aside, with the creation of my bowls, I’ve also started to crave for some soup-based meals. Mhmm, stews were my favorite dish. Always hearty and it warmed your insides. If only I wasn’t lacking fundamental spices!
Honestly, I really wish I could find some salt or salt substitute but all I found were black peppers, chili peppers, honey, bay leaves, oregano, rosemary and a couple of other spices or herbs. Most of them were close enough to their Earth versions, but they were entirely different when it came to their taste.
And, yes, I knew I could make soup without salt, but holy crap, why would I? Like, why? WHy would you try to make soup without salt or a proper stock? Salt was essential to elevate the taste and grade of the dish even further.
Speaking of essential stuff; the strawberry and honey glaze was a real success. Although I believed it could be called culinary blasphemy. The [Venison Steak glazed with Strawberry Honey Sauce] was a refreshing treat compared to all the oily food I’d been eating lately.
I really wanted to eat some cake. Sadly, with how much I was thinking about the frivolous stuff in life, I kind realized I was starting to act like my normal self again. A bit too lackadaisical. Too much city girl vibes. I should fix that up a bit, otherwise I might become too relaxed.
Mhmm. Seems like it’s finished.
<Meat Soup: A soup made from a meaty broth. Filled with an assortment of meat and seasoned generously>
… What? Desperation demanded answers, and my tummy called for soup to satisfy me. It still didn’t invalidate my statement how soup needed salt! Luxury could be afforded when I was out of this forest. For now, being flexible was the key.
Besides, I was a growing girl. I’d become a bit more peckish lately and I believed it was healthy to eat till your stomach was satisfied. With my high calorie requiring lifestyle, I needed to eat more.
Mwaaaah. I sighed in delight after slurping the broth, letting the fragrant and hearty taste fill my tongue. The broth was such a delight to drink over a warm fire under the light of the moon. It felt like camping.
Oh, yeah! Imagine if we had some music to accompany all of this, but I guess the silence of the forest has its charm too.
‘Some calming music would do wonders for some mental healing.’ #3 agreed whole-heartedly with me, before looking as if she had something figured out. ‘Oooooh, I got it, guys! I saw this the last time I checked the shop. Pretty obscure place, so we didn’t see it at first. Here.’
<Would you like to buy [Aerokinesis] for 700 SP? Your current SP is 2850>
Hmm? [Aerokinesis]? Why would that— Oh shit! Oh shit, oh shit! You’re right! Buy it for me!
<You have bought [Aerokinesis]. Your current SP is 2150>
#3 just landed on a goldmine of an idea. Controlling wind? Of course! That was definitely a skill I had to buy at all costs. But, now that I bought it, how do I exactly control it?
Hmm, how do I use this skill properly? Wind Bullet. Wind Cutter. Suspend in air. Seems like it works exactly like [Pyrokinesis] so can I use it with the surrounding air?
…Nope.
Ok, let’s try it like this and this. This should be able to make for some basic sounds at least. Well, I won’t settle with just a few. Let’s see if I can make a literal air piano… Hmm, it sounds a bit weird. Gotta practice.
[Aerokinesis] seemed to work the same way as [Pyrokinesis] did. I could only control the wind I used for my spells at this moment, but with more practice, I could probably affect flames and air around me with my -kinesis skills.
After all, my plan was to become an idol. Most idols performed with either a live band or playback music. With my ability to control air, couldn’t I make sounds? If that was possible, then I needed to remember physics class. Mostly, how sound waves traveled through the air. Air molecules was it, right?
Honestly, with how close I was to the idea, it was such a crime I couldn’t get access to google right now…
Can you guys go through my memories and check how sound moves through the air? It should be under “Physics stuff that I will never need to know. I asked my parallel minds, but they somehow seemed tensed for no reason.
Girl—
‘… SHUSH!’ #2 suddenly shouted at me, telling me to be quiet. ‘Stop talking about that skill and bring up [Detection Sensor]!’
Huh? I was bewildered by her sudden statement, but I did as she said nonetheless ... A couple of signals have us surrounded and are running towards our location. I can even feel their presence. Oh!
Humanize!
Realizing the situation we were in, I thanked myself for training my hearing before using [Detection Sensor] to confirm my suspicion. Wary of the threat, I transformed myself back into a dragon as the signals finally came close enough to probably see me.
Did they see my dragonewt form? I wasn’t sure, but it didn’t matter at this point. It was time to battle.
This forest, honestly. All buffs on.
<[Various Spell Buffs] inflicted on [Young Crimson Spark Dragon *]>
If these monsters were looking for a fight against me, then they either were foolhardy or confident enough they could beat me. Then again, I could be the overconfident one in this scenario. Well, with my spells and my parallel minds, I had to be confident in myself.
I felt the signals around me, but none of them made a move. It was too dark to make them out, for some reason. Wary, I did nothing either. Instead, while keeping my head locked to all the enemies I found, I quickly placed all my food back into my storage. While I was doing that, I noticed I still had two of my bombs in there. I could use them.
Hmm? But as I was thinking on how to use them, I suddenly caught the scent of something. No, it was someone.
I know this despicable smell.
Oooooh, you bastard. You sneaky, sneaky stalker think you can hide from me again. I haven’t trained myself up so you can trick me twice… On second thought, this is just the perfect time! Revenge. Time to scorch that memory out of existence!
Show yourself, Inferno Blast!
I twisted my body 180 degrees and shot out a massive flame blast at one of the bushes, causing it to catch on fire and the ground to explode
“Grr?! Graouhhh!” Something howled as it jumped out of the attack, showing signs of its dirt-brown fur being singed.
Identify!

Oooh, look at that? We can appraise the cooked mutt now! Progress! Oh, and girls, look at those skills he has. Do me a favor and check them out for me, will you, please? Oh, and also shoot a photo of that ugly mutt’s burnt face, ha!
“Krup…Krii Krii Krii!”
I couldn’t hold my laugh in at all. Just looking at the garm’s face with those 4th degree burns was enough to make me burst out in laughter. Honestly, they looked painful as hell. His face was charred, deformed, and its once fine brown fur was all turned into ash.
It was a grotesque and horrendous sight. It actually made the already intimidating wolf monster looked even scarier, but I still couldn’t stop laughing. Was this the need for revenge building up inside me? Holy crap, I was really fucked up in my head after all, hahaha! I really thought I didn’t want it! Ahahahaha!
“Grrrrrr!!! Graou! Graou!”
[“Suos kilt mal sun…to me. Scaled beast! You attack us in our home! Our ancestral grounds! I knew it, you are threat!”]
‘Woah, woah, what was that? Was that telepathy?’ Manager Mind noted.
Now that I thought about it, she was right. Those words somehow entered my head. At first, I couldn’t understand them, but after a second, I could for some reason. Did something auto translate those words for me? Was it a skill? No, it had to be a skill!
I ordered my parallel minds to quickly go through the skill shop, to search for something called ‘telepathy’ or something that sounded similar. What a surprise that there was something like this! Something I should have figured out earlier!
<You have bought [Telepathy]. Your current SP is 1550>
600 SP. 600 SP could have actually saved me from attacking those kobolds. I could have spoken with them if I had thought of mind reading and such earlier.
This is gonna be fun, I thought while giggling. I was ready to rub the salt right into his burnt face.
[“Hello? Hello? Test? Test? Dragon to Dog Creep. Can you hear me?”] My first [Telepathy] usage
[“You… mock me? Reptile?"]
Oh my, I could actually hear the garm’s voice inside my head, as in, an actual characterizable voice and not a robotic one from the System. Considering his first impression, I thought his style of speaking would fit a street thug, but he actually sounded a bit sophisticated.
Ooh, got an idea to irritate him even further.
[“Oh my, my humblest of apologies for ridiculing your scorched face. I would have never mentioned such unkind words, were it not for the fact that your minions have me surrounded and that your stalking felt eerily similar to that one time you almost killed me!”]
I mocked him in the style of speech I’ve learnt from my etiquette teacher. I despised using this overly formal tone, but you have to admit that nothing felt better than to taunt somebody like a rich, noble girl from a fantasy novel.
["… I see. So, it was you.”] he growled, arching his body forward to pounce. [“Your scent felt familiar, but I couldn’t remember what it was. It seems you have survived and were able to evolve further."]
[“Oh, yes. It wasn’t my intention to do it for revenge, but I guess I wouldn’t mind having a taste of it now,”] I spat out as memories of what happened that day and afterwards reappeared. [“You stalked me for days, made me paranoid. Then, you attacked those kobolds on that day and nearly hunted me down. I was stuck in a damn cave for two months ‘cause of you.”]
In all honesty, I was slightly shivering right now. Not from excitement, but from fear. The trauma was still fresh, and I couldn’t forget that feeling of death looming over my head. A part of me wanted to run, cower away in my cave.
I was acting provocative as a defence mechanism. To not seem weak as I stood in front of this beast. I wanted to sound and feel tough. I wanted to show this guy that I wasn’t prey anymore, but a predator ready to kill and defend herself if it came to it.
The me a month ago probably would have ran away. But, I was four months old now. I’ve lived in this forest long enough to know when to back down and when to confront my opponents. Fleeing was living, after all. Nevertheless, this was a matter of pride and confidence. To overcome my fears.
[“… Understandable, lizard whelp. It was a mistake of me to squander that chance to kill you; a mistake I shall correct today. Four months of age and you were able to achieve this much without a parent. A young, an immature dragon. I do not know how your kind, the dragons, would value this but it is deserving of some praise in this home of ours.”]
[“Pah, don’t patronize me with that speech. You’re only 6 years old, a dragon or even a human would spit on that arrogant attitude of yours. Come on, I’ve had enough of all this talking!”]
[“Hmph. You really do act like a child. Your age is a disadvantage. Thank you, it has secured enough time for my pack to arrive, heh!”] he chortled in a loud growl.
His confidence in the situation was clear as day, and it was understandable. Being on the side of a numerical advantage would make anybody more confident in their chances to win a fight.
I couldn’t help but make a “heh.” The garm stood proudly, believing that it would be an easy win for him, so I just let him have a moment, while a gleeful smile began to form on my face.
Eventually, multiple wolves came out of the forest and into my sight, all of them had similar dirt-brown fur, which they shared with the garm. Although patches of black could be seen on their heads.
One, two, three… I count nine. Just as my [Detection Sensor] told me, it was the exact number I expected. Still, ten opponents was pretty scary, if the latter nine weren’t [Warg]s…
<Warg: A type of monster categorized as a wolf type monster. These monsters are pack hunters that mercilessly hunt down prey by outnumbering them instead of overpowering them. Due to their low individual power, they rely on exhausting or distracting their prey before finishing them. Follows the orders of the alphas of a pack with blind loyalty. Their meat is average in taste. Rank E>
Hold on. Are they—?
["… Considering that they are all close to three year old and you seem to suit the role of the alpha, I presume you are their parent?"] I asked him after I looked into their profiles, noticing their age.
[“They are my spawns.”]
You gotta be kidding me…
[“… Are you sure you want to bring them into this battle? If possible, I would like to keep this between us only, ‘cause…well, you should be able to guess.”]
[“… Ahhh, now I understand. You are mild-mannered. That was why you provoked me when I tried to hunt those kobolds. Hrmm. Even after living so long, you haven’t learned much at all. To survive, you cannot be weak or timid. You are a threat, dragon. Those roars you’ve made would only grow the longer you lived. For the safety of my partner and pups, I cannot let you live!”]
You gotta be kidding me here, old man! These were your kids! Shouldn’t you be a bit more apprehensive about putting them in danger! You have [Identify], so you should be able to see my stats. And what do you mean about my “roars?” The ones I did the day before yesterday? That was singing! I was only singing!
[“No, wait! I was only singing! I wasn’t trying to scare you or anybody! That was my first time flying so I wanted to express my happiness. And, what do you mean by ‘being a threat’ to you pack? I have nothing against your children, only you because you tormented me! Hold on, we actually don’t need to fig—”]
I tried to diffuse the situation now that his children were in play. My desire for revenge just vanished after it seemed like he was even sending in his kids to fight me. But…
“Grrrrrgroaaaah!” He snarled at me.
[“Where has your fervour for combat gone? You might have lost your zeal, but your presence in this forest is a threat for the pack. If I let you go, that vengeance of yours will bite our tails. Just like those adventurers who hunted down everybody! Everybody!”]
“Grouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!” he howled, leaving me flabbergasted.
W-What?! What is going one?! Who is he talking about?!
[“They’re dead… we’re the only ones left of ancestor Belzac. His bloodline… I must defend her. I cannot let her die, or our newest pup. You… if she kills you. She can evolve. She can survive with a level up! You are her last hope! I will heal her wounds with your death. I will exterminate all threats to MY PACK!”]
Diplomacy was all broken down. The garm, talking all gibberish to me, was eyeing me with intense desire. Not of lust, but out of desperation.
I… I had no idea what he was talking about. But what I did know was that if I didn’t do anything now, I would die.
And with my death, my dream.
[“I see…”]
Inhale…Exhale.
[“… Then prepare for your cremation!”]
