We both got surprised. Mixed emotions were running in my heart. Amano Suiren is one of my classmates. I had talked with her a few times before. It doesn't mean that we are friends though. For some unknown reasons, I always found her... cute. I wouldn't say I had a crush on her. But in my opinion, she is the cutest in our class.

That same Amano Suiren was the partner in the blind date. My heart was beating fast. What would she think of me? Would she like me? No no no... what even I'm thinking? Am I really wanting to get her as my fiancee? After all I thought about rejecting my grandpa's crazy wish... now I'm wanting this to happen?!

"Sigh... it got harder now for me."

Suddenly Amano-san said that with a painful voice. I was confused.

"Umm... what do you mean, Amano-san?

"Actually my family already agreed to this engagement. Even marriage."

    "M-Marriage? Amano-san are okay to...?"

Is this real world? I never even had a girlfriend but here we are. Fast forward to a couple of days and talks of marriage to the girl I always found cute.

   "However..."

"Hm?", my crazy thoughts were broken by Amano-san's sudden serious voice.

"I'm sorry to say this to you, Arawi-san, but I absolutely don't like you."

   "Oh."

    Silence in the room.

It took me ten seconds to realise what she just said.

   "Umm... did you just say..."

"I'm sorry again.", she bowed to me, "But I don't want this engagement to happen. Only my parents agreed to it without consulting me."

    Ouch....

It's like a knockout punch straight onto my heart. Obviously she doesn't like me. What did I expect? I expected nothing in the beginning and yet I'm disappointed right now. She might have had some dream guy in her thoughts and that's definitely not me.

    But then again...

"Hold on... Amano-san, you said that your parents agreed to it. But why? Did they not know about what you wanted?"

"Actually...", tears started to fall from her eyes, "they just want to get rid of me."

    "..... what??!!"

"Yes...", she then checked her surroundings and made sure the door was locked properly and nobody was spying on them. Then she continued,

"I'm not their actual daughter. I was bought from an orphanage by my grandfather. He died a year ago. But since then my mom and dad don't want to take me with them. That's why they just want to get me engaged and then married just to get rid of me."

    "....."

I'm shocked. I don't know what to say about her parents. Why? Why do they hate this cute girl?

"Since then they torture me almost every day. I also wanted to leave them and escape but couldn't because I don't have the money to live alone."

    "I see."

"I can't even complaint about this abuse to police because my father is friends with the head of the police in this village."

    "That's really terrible scenario."

"They would be angry after me or you reject the engagement proposal. And they would certainly torture me again."

I could clearly see dark spots on her neck and cheeks. It's like she tried her best to hide them.

    "What?! That's not good!"

"Arawi-san don't need to worry.", A wry smile appeared on her face. "Tonight I'll escape from that house."

"But where would you go? How much money do you have?"

    "About 1000 yen."

"Are you an idiot? How can you survive?"

"I would almost certainly be killed in that house anyway when I reject this engagement proposal."

     "Uh...."

At that moment, my grandfather called us from outside. I was surprised by the sudden call. We hesitated and walked outside.

My grandfather and parents were talking to Amano-san's parents. They all were laughing and joking about various things. Amano-san's mother saw me and said,

"Oh Kenji-kun, we decided that Suiren would be living with you from now on."

    "What?"

    "Eh?"

Both me and Amano-san was shell-shocked. We didn't even confirm the engagement and they had already decided her to leave and stay with me.

"Yes, even Suiren would love it. She literally asked us to live with her fiance to be... you know... lovey dovey.", her mother said.

Her mother is really making my blood boil. I absolutely hate her. Amano-san was still silent. It seems she was scared to say anything right now.

"Umm... what do you say, Kenji, my child?", my grandpa said, "If my future daughter-in-law has no problem with it, I have also no problem about you two living together in your apartment. The room is also big enough for you two right?"

What should I say? What should I do? Amano-san certainly don't want to marry me. She doesn't like me after all. However if she rejects, her life would be in danger.

    Come on Kenji... think something...

    .....I got it.

"I just want to have a last talk with Amano-san."

Amano-san was surprised. But I dragged her into the room once again.

   "Amano-san. Please live with me."

   "Ehhh?"

    Amano-san stuttered in shock.

    "P-Pervert."

"Ehhh?", now it's my turn to get shocked.

"You know that I don't want to marry. How can you think about living together?"

"No... I mean... we would be temporarily together."

   "Temporarily?"

"Yes.... until we become adults and get jobs to live without anyone's help. Otherwise Amano-san has to escape her house. How could you live alone right now? It's impossible."

    "You're right but..."

"Also you want to forget your cruel family right? In this way you won't have to be scareď about them anymore."

"Yes but.... it would be troublesome for Arawi-san! I'm not your real fiancee. Why would you want to take the trouble just to help me? I'm a nobody."

"You're not a nobody. You're my classmate. And even if we are not real lovers, I would still want us to be friends."

   "Arawi-san...."

She was silent for a minute. Then she answered,

"Only if it doesn't bother Arawi-san."

   "Of course not."

"Then.... I'm happy. I don't know what to say. It's like a Christmas gift which I never got before."

Tears started to flow from her eyes again. This time, though, these were of happiness.

I loved if she was my real fiancee. However even if I had a chance to stay together for some time, it is more than enough for me.
