Baris finally calmed down after he beat the blue wolf down with his fists, grabbed a large stone, and smashed it's skull.
"Well, I can definitely say that I'm still as dumb as I used to be when I get angry." Baris rolled his eyes. "What a stupid thing to do! Run right up to an elite variant wolf and fist fight him! Fuck!" He picked up the corpse and carried it back to his bundle.
"I can't stay here at the road like this. I need a small area that I can set up a real campsite. Campfire with stones. No trees to catch fire. A place to put my food." Baris looked around and decided to back track a bit.
"I'll travel along the brook, and move what I need into my area." After an hour, he found a tree that would be a good place to sleep in, once he made a platform to lie on. He still remembered this morning when he almost stepped out of the tree.
"Yeah. A foot in midair may look hilarious, but I've fallen straight down off a ladder once. The impact jarred my spine, and shocked my brain. Not doing that again!"
Instead of a branch, Baris gathered some dead trees that had fallen over, cleaned the area of leaves and spruce or pine needles, and made a sunken pit lined with wide flat stones. Once that was completed, he erected a spit, which was simply two Y shaped branches, with one end sharpened and stuck in the ground. He could char a long thick branch, and turn the meat on the branch by hanging it over a fire.
He gutted the blue wolf a lot more easily this time than the last, and took the organ meat and speared it first.
"Would be nice if I had some salt." He frowned for a moment. "Is there 'Search' magic?"
* * *
"Okay. I didn't use any manna to find out there is search magic, but the category is empty. Maybe I need to specify what to search for." He closed his eyes, and thought for a moment. "Better go near to the brook. Don't want to fall over and have no way to fix manna depletion."
Baris walked over a hundred feet to the brook, and looked around. No hostile presences could be detected. He got five points to the detection skill for using it.
"I really have to learn that I need to use skills in order to make them work!" He groaned. "Let me see." He held out his hand like he wanted to use it to scan. "Search salt. Um, Search. Detect Salt?" His cheek twitched as he felt a pull of magical power, but it didn't activate. He groaned.
"AM I ASKING A FUCKING QUESTION?!" He growled out loud and lowered his eyes. "Search. Detect Salt." His eyes glowed as he felt the activation of the magic. "YES!"

"Whew. I could only use that four times before I was out of manna!" Baris sat down after he drank some water, and looked at the animal harvesting book. "Hm, do I read it, or does it digitize and I memorize it right off?" He picked it up, and though the words glowed, when he opened the book, it didn't disappear.
"Oh, the Animal Harvesting category seems to be looser now! If I keep reading this primer, I should be able to advance a bit more!" He began to read the primer, and realized that although most animals were different, they were also the same.
"Liver, kidneys, and heart are the most edible of internal organs. Bladders could be used if harvested and preserved. Eyes and gall bladder are alchemical ingredients used for making potions, and salves. Fat can be used for cooking, made into oil or grease, used for lubrication of wheels, rust preventatives, and dry rot preventatives for leather. Fats can also be rendered and turned into lard, or tallow for soap making. Bones are used for crafting. Herbivores are the only ones that are weak enough to be used for glue making. Brains can be used to tan leather. Tongues and cheeks are edible. The hide can be stretched, scraped, and salted to preserve it until a smith can tan it." Baris continued to read the information, and slowly, even though his skill level in animal harvesting was already at Beginner level, it rose by a full skill point's worth. If he was at the novice level, it would have risen to beginner.

After an hour of reading, he got to his feet, went to another area to scan for salt, and returned. There was a twenty foot diameter detection range, so he had to mark it out each time, or he would lose his place.
"This would be easier with a 'Map'." His eyes went wide, but quickly looked at his manna. "Oh hell, not enough manna to experiment!"

"I never thought that breaking a dwarf of his loving behavior would be a good thing." Aleda said quietly after Jarbuk left the grey wolf in their hands. She quickly gutted the wolf, and pulled out the organs. After they were sorted, she handed the liver to Shaala.
Both elves had looks of sheer pleasure in their eyes after they took a bloodied bite.
"Hm, this is strange. He also had blue wolf, and grey wolf fur clothing, although at crude level. Apparently, he was left for dead out in the forest. He's also locked out of Noobville." Aleda read the knowledge stone that Jarbuk left her.
"Locked out? Did he screw up?" Shaala asked and ripped a chunk of meat out of the liver. "So good! These lazy bastards haven't hunted a fresh wolf in months!"
"He says that he's been given a curse restriction by Nuella to not enter Noobville in order to balance something out. Nuella has blocked the scan of his status plate." Aleda said quietly.
"Blocked? Is he favored, and still cursed?"
"I don't know, Shaala. Perhaps you can take your fiancee on a ride and find out. The man wants some equipment. Bone carving. Leather tools. Standard knife. If he's got points to trade, we should take advantage of it. Some of our mares need to level up a bit." Aleda said. Shaala nodded, but became quiet all of a sudden.
"Do you feel a cloud hanging over us? Did we anger Nuella, or take something out of balance?" She asked, as she knew that Nuella could do some odd things to bring the land back into balance. When she talked about 'balance', it was always nature against development, or populations of her races balanced against the influx of humans who seemed to pop up like cabbages.
"I don't think it was us, Shaala." She said and pursed her lips. "However, someone did something. She's taken an interest in this human." Aleda grinned a bit. "After you go see your little winged wives, take Jarbuk with you and visit him to see what the fuss is about." Shaala nodded, and looked at the grey wolf carcass. "Take a snack. You might be able to bring more home tomorrow."
"Thank you, Aleda." She took her rapier, and swung the blade rapidly. The hind quarters fell into two distinct pieces, which she picked up one half of. She peeled the hide away, and eagerly chewed on the bloodied flesh.
"Clean up your lips before you kiss theirs, you heathen!" Aleda heard Shaala chuckle as she strode out. Shaala was a wild forest elf, a rogue among her people, and one who could return home at any time she pleased.
However, Shaala much rather enjoyed the slender bodies of two eager fairies that worked at the main desk downstairs.
"Such strange tastes. She would eat a dwarf on her wedding night, and fuck those little fairies rather then take on a mare who can give her everything she ever wanted. Children. A home. Gold. I would much rather fuck my Lura than those tiny things." She sighed.
"To each their own path. My path leads me home, and to my wonderful mate."
