Chapter 67: Repeat

The Demon King, too, has no memories. I feel like I’m going insane, but I take a deep breath and attempt to keep it together. If I break down here, I’ll never know why Garen paid the price to bring me back in time.

First and foremost, my name is Mika. I introduced myself and then began talking, “believe it or not.”

I’ve traveled back in time from five and a half years in the future.

Soon, the Saint will come onto the battlefield, and after she is captured, the Goddess Kas’uan will wage war against mankind and demons.

And that I was once the Shrine Maiden, and that the Goddess Kas’uan had a grievance against me, and targeted me.

I was at a loss for words when I got to that point. I used to be a person worth protecting with the title of Demon King’s wife, even if I lost my Shrine Maiden power, but now I’m simply a human being without that power.

Despite becoming the Demon King’s wife, the Demon King has never met me, and I’m sure I’ll confuse him with something he doesn’t recognize.

I’m at a loss for what to do.

“… And you were my wife—my soul bears witness—and when I look at you, I get a strange feeling.”

When I was at a loss for words, the Demon King took the floor.

But none of this has anything to do with the present Demon King.

I fiercely gripped my hand and was softly taken by the hand.

“Your Majesty?”

“Yes, don’t look serious. I’ll protect you.”

That’s because you feel obligated to me. I’ve already lost the Shrine Maiden’s magic, so I have no option but to rely on the Demon King to defend me. But…

“Thank you.”

I bite my lower lip. No, let’s not be depressed. Make the Demon King fall in love with me once again. Let’s work hard for that.

For the time being, I was given a guest room. I was also informed that I would be assigned a caretaker──.

“Mika-sama!”

Sarah, as I suspected, was the caretaker. That made me very happy…Huh?

“S-Sarah… you just said Mika.”

Because Sarah couldn’t call me by my given name right from the start, it had to have sounded like Mica. But the fact that she addressed me as Mika…

“Of course, I remember you—I’m so glad you’re safe.”

Sarah responded with a smile.

“R-Really?”

“Yes.”

Because The Demon King and Yulin had no memory, I assumed Sarah had no memory either.

“Sarah, thank God you’re okay.”

I cried, calling her name repeatedly as she continued to pat my back.

“Neither Yulin-sama nor Your Majesty have any memories?”

When I spoke up, Sarah gave me a troubled look.

“Isn’t it true that the ability to turn back time is only handed on to human royalties? Perhaps that’s why.”

“What?”

“It happened generations ago, but I have royal human blood in my veins.”

“I was instructed to be Mika’s maidservant because they felt I would be closer to her as a demon with a human pedigree than as a mere demon,” Sara added.

It’s the human condition, I see. So Sarah has memories because of her human ancestors. The Saint also had memories before she was sent back in time.

“It must have been incredibly painful for his Majesty to have no recollections of Mika-sama.”

Sarah gave me a worried look.

“…Yes.”

I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t painful. I only wish the Demon King had remembered me.

However,

“I’ve decided to do my best.”

to rekindle The Demon King’s feelings for me. perhaps by first becoming friends. I’m not even permitted to address him by his first name. However, I want to respect The Demon King in the same manner that he has always regarded me. I’ll have to be cautious not to compel The Demon King to do anything he doesn’t understand simply because we’re married.

Sarah responded by saying,

”Mika-sama is very strong, isn’t she?”

No, I am not a strong person.

“It is because of everyone that I am strong.”

I can’t squander the life Garen has given me, and it’s comforting to know Sarah remembers me.

The Demon King entered my chamber as we were discussing it.

“This room must be dreary for a lady.”

Then he handed me a flower. That’s right. This has occurred before. I nearly cry as I receive the flowers.

“Shrine Maiden?!”

The Demon King looked puzzled and troubled, so I hurriedly smiled.

“I was just happy when His Majesty presented me with flowers.”

The Demon King then breaks off, at a loss for words,

“We don’t really know each other—but I’d like you to get to know me better. So, first and foremost, could you address me by my given name?”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course—would it be alright if I called you by your name, too?”

The Demon King smiled and vigorously nodded.

“Then, from now on, please take good care of me, Mica.”

“Me too, O’Dowell-sama.”

And with that, The Demon King left.

Even though we hadn’t yet become friends, he granted me permission to address him by his given name. That made me so delighted that I burst into tears.
