Chapter 1: The Song Is Sung

It came from the mountains. It was a single voice low and soft at first. Then a second voice came to join with the first singer. One by one they took up the call for their ancient summoning. Old and young, males and females, the healthy and the dead. Ghosts who lingered still in old decrepit halls and vast open fields. From one cluster of singers to another, from mountain to mountain, forest to forest, and sea to sea. They sang and somewhere, deep below in a long forgotten tomb, within a dungeon founded by the last true mage family of men. A pair stood in eternal embrace, frozen since the day they met on that fateful battlefield. Male and female, a Goblin and a Human. Two natural enemies, locked away from the rest of the world as the Goblin held the woman skewered through the heart on his cold sword. His red eyes burning with unrelenting anger and fury as they had in his life, from the chains to the fight for freedom. And the Witch Queen stared back with bright blue eyes, calculating and brimming with sorrow. Their stillness of immortality, a result of her final act of pure magic in this dying world. As the shadows walked on the edge of the last standing empires of the old age and real immortals awoke and died in their slumber. The song was sung and they all heard it through the well of the world and the last of it's dwindling magic.
