Chapter 2: The Creation of the Residents of Farrago

The very first residents of the world known as Farrago were called the Firstborn. The Firstborn were creatures who were given new bodies within the crystalline leaves after their souls were brought to this world through the world tree. Only 1,000 Firstborn can exist at any given time. Interestingly enough, their bodies were not like crystals at all. These crystalline leaves could perfectly replicate any bodies and could even improve the body's condition. However, once a firstborn's body dies, they cannot be born through the crystalline leaves again and will have to wait for a suitable host to help them reforge their bodies or their souls will start degrading. The Firstborn who were magical in nature had a rough time adapting to this world, as mana was not a crucial part of the world at the time. So the Firstborn, with their "infinite wisdom", decided to create a system using the properties of chaos. The very same chaos that was within the fabric of the universe before the star exploded. This chaos system caused mutations with both magical and non-magical Firstborn, as they could now wield chaos with some difficulties. They could only hope that one of their descendants could figure out how to make mana from chaos.

 

Residents born from the Firstborn did not result in the creation of more Firstborns but the creation of the relatively more normal beings. Well, normal in the sense that they can't constantly reforge their bodies like the Firstborn can. These residents, also known as First-kin, could use the chaos system with more efficiency than natural Firstborns but were still not as powerful. But a First-kin could become a Firstborn if there is a Firstborn that haven't been able to rebuild their bodies in time. For a First-kin to become a Firstborn, they must capture the soul of a dead Firstborn and undergo a ritual to drain their primordial soul essence. This ritual, however, gains the ire of Farrago. The world does not like losing Firstborns, so the First-kin (not yet a Firstborn) have to go to the world tree and give up their bodies and be born anew within the crystalline leaves to get rid of this curse. To be clear, any being born from First-kin, without the intervention of a Firstborn, are regular creatures 

 

10,000 years ago, the world underwent a drastic change with the introduction of mana within the atmosphere. The beings that were born within that time period had a much easier time adapting to this world than the beings born before. However, the pre-mana beings got the better end of the deal and gradually underwent a rebirth through the power of mana. Legends say that whoever caused the world to start converting chaos to mana got the best deal out of them all, but no one knows who had the gall to do this debilitating task. Regardless, all beings of this world now formed some crystalline markings at birth because of mana. These markings could cover up half of the body or it could be as small as a fly. The size of these markings does not affect the quality of power someone can dish out but it does affect the quantity of power they can hold. Fortunately the residents of Farrago can expand their markings through the cultivation of chaos, as chaos is qualitatively higher than mana.
