Farmer Jones walked closer toward along with the behemoth of a dog called Fluffles. Probably not his name but it kind of helps me keep my composure if I keep calling it Fluffles, kinda makes the dog cute in a twisted kind of way.

"So you be the new farm hand then, boy?" asked Farmer Jones taking a deep drag of his pipe.

Technically a man according to the orphanage but whatever, I'm 16 and I'm super mature and definitely an adult.

"Yes, sir." I flashed him my winning smile.

It did not work. It did not soften any of his rough edges whatsoever. His lips still set in an eternal grimace like his days were already numbered, looking at the sight of his ugly mug, I don't doubt it. He itch his scruffy chin covered in white bear with the butt of pipe.

"You look skinny and malnourished for a boy of you're age, your arms is wiry thin, makes me think you haven't done this kind of work before." Farmer Jones scoffed.

Yeah, lack of experience will definitely be a problem, hopefully he gives a chance.

"No, sir, I just turned 16 today. I have never worked in a farm before but I'm willing to learn and work hard for however long you need me sir." I replied.

"Hmmm.." he grimaced, taking another long drag of his lit pipe.

"I suppose, you'll do. I hurt my back pretty bad a couple days ago and I can't yet afford  to get it healed at the church. Those parasitic healers at the church charging a fortune for their miracle. Only the rich benefits from their blessings while the poor are left to fend for themselves.  One of their doctrines says help the poor and share the blessings of Tira but look at them abusing their gifts. Shameless bastards!" he spat angrily.

"Come on then you wiry chicken, lets get a move on, there's a lot for you to learn." barked Farmer Jones, he turned around with a grunt and walked further inside.

I followed him in.

Two hours later Farmer Jones finished his endless tirade of instructions and teachings, the do's and don't. Like don't give water to Fire Chickens otherwise they'll die as it will put out their internal flame, or make sure to comb the Cotton sheep's as it keeps their coat nice and shiny and its flavour nice and fresh and that they must be harvested once a week otherwise the flavour of the cotton will go bad and that would come out of my pay check.

Simple enough, like all the other things I have to do, they are simple but since I'm the only farm hand, then this simple work just became almost impossible. But hey, that's life, orphans can't be choosers. At least, by the end of the day I got a roof over my head and food in my belly.

Since a lot has not been done since Farmer Jones has been unable to do anything due to his back injury, I got to make a start. Farmer Jones kindly gave me some work clothes and the equipment that I need to be able to do my job. I put on the work gloves and started feeding the Fire Chickens, grains that grew near a water elemental vein is packed full of nutrients as well as water, so that they are able to keep laying nice delicious eggs everyday. After that, I comb the Cotton Sheep's flavoured and started shearing them and putting them in sacks. The smell of their wall was intoxicating and I couldn't help grabbing a few bites.

Yum!

After grooming and trimming the Cotton Sheep, the last thing to do is feed the Soya cows with soya leaves and then they should be ready to produce Soya milk in the morning. By the time I was finished and ready to pass out, according to the position of the red moon in the sky, it should now be around 9 o’clock at night.

"You finished with everything boy?" hollered Farmer Jones from inside the house.

"Yes, Sir!"

"Come inside and go take a bath, I have a natural hot spring at the basement here.'

With a spring in my step, I ran, taking my boots off outside, I then washed it clean with the tap water outside of the house, making sure to clean off the mud and making sure the bottom of the shoe was relatively clean. I stepped inside and the aromatic smell of something delicious hits me. My stomach couldn't help but growl, I patted in comfort as I made my way down to where the basement hot spring was.

The smoke floated around the interior of the basement, it was bubbling ever so gently, inviting me in like a sultry maiden from a whore house. I didn't take too long on the bath as I was now getting hunger pains. I quickly soaped up, washed my dirty hair and dried myself off with a towel. I then got changed and headed to where farmer Jones was already sitting on a dining table.

"Eat up lad and make sure to rest up early tonight, your muscle will be sore in the morning and you need all the strength you can get." He laughed heartily, he puffed a smoke from his lit pipe and gestured for me to eat. I grabbed a plate and started stuffing it full with egg fried rice, what looked to be liver of some kind deep fried.

It was all delicious.

After it was all done, the old man kept smoking his pipe as he went off to sit outside, leaving me to wash up, which I didn't mind. I then went to my designated room, I saw an empty notebook there and a charcoal pencil inside a drawer, after having asked farmer Jones if I could have them and he grumpily told me to  'shove off and do one' which I assumed was an okay, I then decided from there and then to start writing my own diary. I eagerly started writing but then I spilled my cup of water onto it, luckily it was only that page that was ruined and the rest of the pages was fine, but it caused me to have to start all over again which ruined the overly good vibes of my day, but yeah apart from that, this is the start of the adventure of me, Kierran and this is the story of my ordinary life.
