After storing the pail of milk in her house, Amelia began searching through her things to find some good combat needles. Eventually, she found a pair of long knitting needles, each about a foot and a half in length and sharp at the tip. Well, these should do. Leaving them on top of her dresser, she contemplated what else to do while waiting for people to return.

However, she didn’t have to wait long. Soon enough, she heard someone call out that the villagers had returned.

Rushing to the square, Amelia looked among the group of rescued women for her sister, but couldn’t see her anywhere. “Do you know where my sister is?” she asked, turning to the heavily armored knight next to her.

After a moment, the knight spoke. “You wouldn’t happen to have a brother, would you?”

“Why do you ask?”

“You see, one of the people from another group was also asking about their sister. He had bright red hair, too. Just like yours.”

“Where are you going with this?”

“Well, his hair wasn’t why I initially noticed him. Actually, I only remembered what color his hair was when you mentioned your sister.”

Amelia felt her heart drop, knowing where this conversation was leading but powerless to stop it.

“You seem to know what I’m leading to. Your brother used magic. Quite a lot, actually. He wasn’t the only one, either. You wouldn’t happen to know a… priestess?”

“The priestess lives with those two,” Flanagan interjected.

“Ah.” Turning back to Amelia, the knight continued. “Now, you have two choices. We can stay here, and you spill all your dirty secrets in front of everyone else instead of just me, or we can go somewhere quiet and discuss things like nice people do. What’ll it be?”

“I- can we discuss this at my house?”

“Lead the way.”

Back at the camp, the knights had just noticed Kass overhearing their conversation.

“So, were you trying to get me to hear you, or do you guys just not know what an inside voice is?”

I,” Gabriel responded, “was trying to hold a measured discussion. My colleague here,” he continued, using ‘colleague’ as if it were a synonym for some sort of infectious fungus or disease, “was being a bit too loud. I apologize.”

“Why did you come over here?”

“To tell you that we’ve got everyone amassed here, and we’re going to head back to the village.”

“Alright,” Gabriel said. “Once we get more answers from your priestess, we’ll be on our way.”

“Why do you get to make that sort of decision? We need to do something about-”

“We are not going to argue about this in front of everyone else,” Gabriel interrupted. “We will be on our way, inform the rest of the knights about it, and have them decide what course of action we’ll pursue.”

Despite some groaning, Seth stood up and got ready to move out, with Jonah a few moments behind him.

Leading the large, imposing knight into the house, Amelia took a seat at the table.

Taking the opposite seat, the knight began asking questions. “So, both of the known magic-users in this town have some connection to you. Would it be correct to assume you’ve got some form of magic as well?”

“I can’t cast spells like they can, no.”

“That wasn’t what I asked. Magic can come in a number of forms. Some nobles are born with superhuman strength, impenetrable skin, or other such physical enhancements. Do you have any of those?”

“No, none of those, either.”

“Ah. In that case, could you explain how you came to know the priestess?”

“Well, my brother actually met her before I did. She arrived in town after escaping the goblin camp, and my brother directed her to our house where she could sit down and catch her bearings. “

“And what happened then?”

Then she came on my face and fucked me on the floor. “Well, since she had nowhere else to stay, she stayed in my sister’s room until the raid. One night, Kass walked in on her practicing magic, and somehow gained magic as well.”

“They… gained magic?”

“Yes. I don’t know how.”

“And why didn’t you attempt to gain magic as well?”

“I wasn’t going on the raid. That’s why my brother wanted magic in the first place- he wanted to be strong enough to save his sister.”

“Well, based on what I saw, he certainly got what he was looking for. This priestess promised an explanation when she returned, I’ll share the information you gave me with the other knights. Thank you for your time.”

As the knight left, Amelia reflected on the conversation. Well, it could have gone a lot worse. Let’s just hope nothing I’ve said contradicts Lilith’s story.
