Chapter: Meanwhile, at the Gerald Merchant Group…
While Oigen was visiting with Wernerーー
One Nobleman arrived at the Gerald Merchant Association.
The Nobleman came to buy a Magecraft Artifact that will warm up water.
“What? You don’t have any?” “We are truly sorry. All of our wares have recently suffered extreme shortages lately…..”
“That will not do. Are you asking me to wash my face with cold water? In the middle of winter?” “We are truly sorry for the inconvenience.”
The store clerk could only keep his head bowed low to the ground and apologize over and over again.
The Nobleman was greatly upset as he left the premises.
After the Nobleman left, the store clerk immediately inquired with the man in charge of stocks and purchases.
“Has the shipment not arrived yet?” “No, nothing has been delivered.” “What is going on?” 90% of what the Academy had patented was a device that Werner developed and made.
The other research lab assistants, students, graduate students, and even Teaching Assistants helped build the tools.
But only Werner was able to make the core of the tool that made the whole thing work.
That is why all of Werner’s Magecraft Tools were now at a complete and disastrous standstill.
“Is it because the Head of Magecraft Science is putting all of his resources into developing their new product, so they don’t have the time to get around to the minor products?” “But we need them to do both like they did before……..”
They have bribed the President of the Academy and Head of Magecraft Science in order to monopolize the Magecraft Tools and patents.
It was all an investment for the overwhelming profits it was supposed to bring the Gerald Merchant Association.
The Gerald Merchant Association was a new business group that had grown exponentially over the last several years.
And what propelled them onto this successful path was the fact that they were the prioritized vendor for all the Magecraft Artifacts that were made by the Mages Academy.
So considering it allーー
“But at this rate….our sales figures for the month will be…….”
But all of the store clerks could not bring the next words out no matter how hard they tried.
Their sales were abysmal, and the Merchant Group was beginning to tilt heavily to one side.
That was how important their Magecraft Artifact sales were to their overall business.
“.........we can’t even expect a bonus with this…..”
“But I bought a house expecting another bonus this year……”
And there were some store clerks whispering amongst themselves in the corner.
That is when a wooden crate arrived from the Mages Academy.
“YES! It’s finally here!”
All of the store workers gathered together around the box as they opened it.
“It’s Magecraft Tools!”
“Are they a new kind?”
“Oh! Did they finally finish their newest product?!”
Even the lowest workers heard rumors about how the Head of Magecraft Science was struggling with their latest research and development.
If they finished the new product, then they can go back to building the old products as well.
Once they have it on hand, they would immediately deliver it to the Nobleman they upset earlier.
They’re sure that with enough of an apology and discount, their moods would improve.

As they thought of these things, the Store Clerks all confirmed the Magecraft Tools.
And as soon as he heard the news that a package of Magecraft Tools arrived, the President of the Association, Gerald, also ran up to the group.
Gerald: “Yes! Finally! All of that effort making them hurry paid off!”
Again and again, Gerald placed innumerable pressure against the Academy President and the Head of Magecraft Science.
And Gerald himself was receiving unbearable pressure from the upper echelon of the [Church of Divine Light] and was in a constant state of worry.
If things continue as they did now, his position would be in danger.
That is because the illegal organization, [The Knights of Lumen], were under the direct orders of the [Church of Divine Light].
Gerald takes a hold of the Magecraft Artifacts.
Gerald: “.........wait, what is this?” And wrinkles his face in concern.
“Oh, um……please wait.”
One of the clerks takes out the tool’s instructions and skims over the instructions.”
“It says that it’s a Magecraft Tool that warms up water.”
Gerald: “But don’t we already have a product like that?” Gerald’s mood began to worsen quickly and steadily.
“Maybe it’s an improved tool? What does it say in the instructions?”
“Let’s see here……ummm…..it has the ability to warm up one cup of water to the temperature of the human body.”
But Gerald’s face distorted in wicked anguish at the explanation.
Gerald: “And pray, tell me. What are we supposed to use it for? Are they stupid?”
“BーBut, if it can instantly warm it up, maybe there’s some usefulnessーー”
Gerald: “You idiots! There are plenty of other tools out there that can replace this!”
There’s really no need to buy an expensive Magecraft Artifact that serves this kind of purpose.
If you place a cup of water in front of the fireplace, you will easily warm up a cup of water.
“But it says ‘instantly’ーー”
The clerk tries to vouch for the product’s ability to instantly warm up water to Gerald.
But after reading the instructions more carefully, another clerk spoke up quietly.
“It says it takes 3 hours for it to complete.”
“ “ WHAAAAAAT?! ” “
The clerk who was championing the tool and Gerald’s voices overlapped at once.
If it takes 3 hours to warm it up to the human body temperature, it would be faster to just hold the cup to warm it up yourself.
Gerald: “Why would they send junk like this to us?” “.........I do not know.” Gerald: “And they sent us 50 units? Do they take us as fools?!”
“.........I cannot say.”
No clerk who saw the product had any confidence that they could sell one unit.
If they put it in storage, it would just take up precious space.
If they were going to make something so useless, disassembling it and selling the raw materials would be more profitable.
Gerald: “I’m heading to the Academy. Re-package that trash and get it ready to be sent back.”
“Yes sir.” And Gerald headed off to the Academy.
