Sally woke up early today. She wanted to pick some flowers in the forest near her house as a gift. It was her dad's birthday today and he would coincidently come back later that same day from work.
'Finally, Papa will be here! I hope I can get a lot for him. I hope he'll happy!' She thought.
She changed in her working clothes, took some bread in the kitchen for her breakfast and left the house. She walked past the firewood stack, went in her dad's little armoury, took some scissors and went in the forest...
Ten minutes later.
Sally had collected yellow, blue and red flowers, the same colours as one of her dad's outfits. She didn't know how much it meant to him, seeing him look at those clothes with sad eyes, but she thought that would cheer him up. The forest path that Sally was taking to come back home was wide enough that if you strayed from the line of dirt that made the path and went in the grass, you would still see it. But you couldn't see a lot outside of it because of the tall grass. At one point, Sally looked to her left and saw a vibrant red rose.
"Wow! What a beautiful flower! I'm sure Papa will love it!"
Sally ran up to it and slowed down as she approached. As she bended down to cut it, Sally felt the ground move. She didn't know what was happening, so she tried to go back, but the ground suddenly went down, and a piece of it fell... with her on it. She could see what was beyond the path now: a cliff. She hit the dirt at the bottom of the cliff and she lost consciousness.
When Sally woke up, she was still on the dirt near the cliff. She looked at the sky, it was noon. Her legs and left arm were hurting. Luckily though, her dominant hand and arm were fine. She tried to get up, but the pain was too much. So she just decided to crawl, sit and lean on a nearby tree. She wasn't seeing any of the flowers she picked on the ground, so she looked up and there they were, near the place where the ground broke up on the cliff. It was just a question of time that someone would go pick her up then. So she sat there, waiting.
...Two minutes passed, and she was hungry. She searched for the bread that she took earlier, and then branded it up as a show of victory, happy that it was still with her.
As Sally took a bite, some bush near her began to move. She jolted, dropped the bread on her legs and looked at the bush intently, preparing herself for what could come out. The bush moved some more and then...
A little slime popped out. Sally felt relieved that she wasn't in any imminent danger, so she relaxed a bit. Slimes were known for being weak and fearful when alone, but you mustn't underestimate their courage when they are in big numbers when you're just debuting in the world. They're still weak, but their recklessness took the lives of young arrogant ones everywhere. Only one wouldn't hurt her though. So, she continued her bread, not seeing that slime slowly creeping next to her.
She noticed it only when it touched her right leg. She told it to go away, but it didn't leave her. She then noticed that it was eying her bread. With nothing to lose, she broke a piece of it and brought it to the slime. Its eyes shined a bit and it went on a beeline to the piece of bread. Watching the slime enjoy the bread in pure bliss weirdly put a smile on Sally's face. So in the end, she went and gave the slime some more bread. After eating it, the slime went in the forest and came back. It went on Sally's legs and oozed out some sort of liquid. Sally felt weird at first, and then... her legs didn't hurt her as much as before. As if grateful, the slime might have done something to the girl so she could walk again. Then, the slime got off and went near some grass. It stopped and then looked at Sally, who thought she understood what it was saying.

She hesitated, but then followed the slime through the greenery. Five minutes later, she began to see light through the trees. She began running, not seeing the slime trying desperately to keep up, and she got to a clearing. Her village was a distance away, and she was on the edge of a field. Her eyes were shining brightly. She looked back and saw the slime that was able to keep up with her beginning to go back, when she screamed:
"Wait! Stop!"
The slime stopped and looked back at her. "I live in a brown house with grey windows and a little building at the back there!" She pointed at her house near the edge of the forest. "I'll be waiting for you tomorrow when the sun high in the sky, ok? I want to thank you. So please, come see me!"
The slime stood there, and its eyes moved up and down, which was maybe a sign meaning "YES". And so, the slime and the girl parted ways. The girl went back to her home and her dad was already there. Her parents ran up to her with watery eyes and hugged her tightly.
"Where were you all this time! *sniff*I woke up and you were no-*sniff*-where to be seen,*sniff* I was so worried!"(mom)
"I was trying to make a surprise for Papa! I went to the forest to pick some flowers, but I lost them on the way here."(Sally)
"Well*sniff*, let's hope you're not making a surprise like this ever again, ok?*sniff* I do not want to lose you. Not you too...."(dad)
The two parents were crying lightly and talked with a trembling voice with their child in their arms, Sally not knowing what her dad meant. But she hugged them back.
That night, she thought again at what happened today and thought 'I hope I can see that slime again.', not knowing that their first meeting would bring a lot of change in the future.
