"Hi! Nice to see you again! Thanks for coming like I asked!"
What is this feeling called again? Happiness? I wonder...
The slime felt something well up inside again, but didn’t know exactly how to name it. The humans’ mana waves they emitted would sometimes vary with their faces changing shape. It didn’t know exactly why, but they called these “emotions”, and each intensity and effect of those waves would have a certain name. It wondered if what it felt would be one of these, but right now isn’t the time.
It observed the little human again. She was a child, a girl presumably as those waves would indicate, with long flowing brown air going to her waist. She had light blue and round eyes, a little nose going upwards and a small forehead. She was wearing simple brown pants with a light-grey top. A T-shirt, was it called? The texture looked rough, but the seams were well made. She wore a pair of little leather boots, and you could see some “fluff” coming out of the inside.
“…umm… are you ok?”
The slime didn’t realize, but it was staring a bit too long at the girl. So, as a sign of a reply, it shacked its eyes up and down.
“Yes”
The girl’s face relaxed.
“Cool, that’s a relief. Can I sit next to you?”
“Yes”
The girl then sat, grinning a bit.
“You still haven’t answered my first question though.”
The slime then “tilted” its eyes, showing confusion.
“You didn’t understand? I was asking if you were hungry. Do you know what hungry means?”
“Yes”
“Oh, so you didn’t hear it then. So, are you hungry?”
The slime didn’t know what to answer. It wasn’t that hungry, as it ate earlier in the morning enough to have energy all day, and it had still more of the grass in its storage space. However, the girl looked at the slime “expectantly” and it had to admit the bread was looking pretty appetizing.
After a little pondering, it decided to take it.
“Yes”
“Great! I took a big piece of bread from our kitchen, so here you go!”
The girl tore a piece from the bread and gave it me. I absorbed it and ate it. Delicious. She then gave me other pieces one after the other. As I wasn’t hungry though, I put them all in my storage space. She watched me absorb all the bread and as she gave me the last piece, she leaned on the piled up wood behind us.
We sat there for a while, when she looked at me again.
“…Hey”
The slime looked at her.
“This morning, I thought about what happened yesterday, and I wanted to thank you again for saving me. Without you, I don’t think I would have came back so soon. Sure, the flowers on top of the cliff were pretty colorful enough to see through the grass, so the local hunting group would have found me at some point. But it could have taken until tomorrow for them to find me. I could have also been attacked by a monster and die. Normally, I would able to defend myself, but as I was, that would have been really hard. So, thank you... Thank you so much...”
The slime could feel the intensity of what the girl was saying as her eyes were getting moist. It understood a bit of what she meant, but the mana waves it felt were intense enough to feel her emotional state. The slime couldn’t name what it felt though, as different intensities were mixed in.
So, as a show of comfort, like he saw some humans do before, it rubbed itself against her side.
“*sniff*Hehe… thanks. *sniff* I showed you something ugly a bit, sorry.”
The slime then gave one of the plants in the cave and a flower it found in the forest.
“Heehee. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.”
She looked livelier.
“Ok!” She slapped her cheeks.
”Let’s stop being all gloomy!”
She straightened herself and moved her forearms up and down.
Then, she leaned back again and started patting the slime. The slime didn’t know what she was doing, so it showed confusion at first. She giggled a bit at its reaction.
As it felt nice though, the slime leaned on her hand to immerse itself in the feeling.
Like that, they sat for a few minutes, feeling the presence of the other, when the girl suddenly stopped moving her hand.
“Hey, I just realized, but I never said my name to you, did I?”
“No”
“Right, I didn’t. Well, let me tell you then. My name is Sally, Sally Reeves. Nice to meet you!”
She then extended her hand towards the slime. It saw this already before. Some strong humans who never saw each other before would do something called “shaking hands”. It can’t do that though. So the girl, Sally, stayed like this before asking, embarrassed:
“… um, you can’t shake hands, can you?”

“No”
“Uhm… Then I’ll do this!”
Sally took the slime by her hands, stood up, and leaned her forehead against the slime. The slime, not knowing what to do, leaned its body against her…
...*inaudible soft click*...
…and met eyes with Sally.
“This is a certain greeting between two individuals of a race known as Catkin, beastmans with cat characteristics. When two close catkins greet each other, they join their foreheads like this. It is also an invitation of friendship, and because I wanted to see you again, I thought this would be fitting!”
They parted, and Sally looked at the slime with the biggest grin she ever made. Though it fell when she saw the slime trembling.
“You want us to be friends, right?” she asked, worried.
“Yes!” It responded, as it shacked its eyes violently.
“Then it’s settled! Let’s meet at the same time everyday then, Friend!”
“Yes!”
Like this, Sally hugged the slime. What she didn’t know is that the slime, at this very moment, was the most emotionally unstable it has ever been. It was sure what it felt was called happiness now. It still didn’t know why or how, but right now, this feeling was exploding inside.
... After staying in this position for a while, they parted, and Sally put the slime on the ground.
“Well, I have to go home now. I’m sure I was outside for a long time, and I hope mom didn’t call for me while I was here. So… here again tomorrow?”
“Yes.”
“Cool! See you then!”
Sally ran to her home- before stopping abruptly- and starting to walk rapidly on her toes.
Did her parents tell her to stay inside? Looks like it.
The slime observed Sally until she went inside, before it-itself went into the forest.
It went through the greenery, bouncing happily, and went on a little walk to pass the time.
After a few hours.
Arriving at the hole in the tree, it jumped inside and nestled in. Feeling hungry, it ate a bit of the bread which was in its storage space, with a bit of the grass from the cave.
Only one word: "exquisite", as an old human once said in the village.
As the sun was beginning to come down, it decided to stay in the hole and to reminisce the meeting between it and Sally. It never felt like this before. What happened? It asked itself this question for a while, but not reaching an answer, it decided to “postpone” it. Maybe the answer will come to it later?
Like this, the sun was already missing from the sky, which was a deep blue.
So, feeling satisfied with itself, it got comfortable deep in his hole and went to sleep…
Wait. Not “sle-
