Chapter 35: Under The Sword Cave (Part 2)

I was now going with John down the sword cave, the tunnel we went through was quite dark so we had to turn on our flashlights all the time. 

We just had started our journey down here not long, just a few minutes ago so we didn't go far yet.

"Sarah! You point your flashlight around for me, I want to see the entire area we are standing." - John ordered me, the road we were standing on seemed a bit wider than the previous one so he wanted me to check

Then I pointed my flashlight around the area, when moving the light around, I saw the route led forward and about 6 tunnels that led to the different routes on the right side and the left side. 

I was now wondering where should we go next.

"Sarah! You go to the second tunnel on the left side, I will go straight, if you see the tunnel you go is too deep, get back here immediately!" - John seemed like wanted me to split out

"Okay! Commander!"

Then John split up with me and went on his route, I immediately walked to the second tunnel, when I got there a little bit, I saw something that looked like a European sword that was stuck under the ground. 

Not just that, I also saw something that looked like a book that was covered in dust, both of them seemed very old, the sword even blunted and rusted.

I stepped to the sword and picked it up, it was quite hard to pull it out when it stuck on the ground. When I pulled the sword up, its blade had broke in half, what a terrible rusted, I threw the sword away and headed to the book.

When I picked up the book, the entire book turned into dust, these things had stayed so long in this place so there was no surprise if they got decomposed when I touched them.

Then I stepped deeper into that tunnel, I saw a room, I went inside and saw a thing that looked like a machine placed on the left side of the room. 

There was also a thing that looked like a work chair placed next to it, I looked around to see if there were more things to see, but seemed like there was just that machine and the chair.

I looked closer to the chair, it seemed very modern, very advanced, the chair looked like made of metal, I touched the chair. 

Then my hand was full of dust because touching it, cannot imagine if there was an ancient civilization had existed under this sword cave.

Then I looked closer at the machine, it had a thing that looked like a big screen that appeared up the wall in front of it. 

Both the screen and the machine were full of dust, I looked at what was under the machine, there were a lot of things that looked like buttons, switches hand grips.

Some languages written on the buttons and the switches but I cannot understand stand what they were written. Seemed like they were written in pictographs mixed with Latin but upside down. 

I accidentally used both of my hands to sweep the dust away from the screen, yikes! How could I clean my hands now? Both of my hands were now dirty.

Then I pushed a button that I saw from the machine, nothing happened, I also pulled the handgrip next to the button down, also nothing happened. 

Maybe I had wasted my time doing these things, that was all I saw from that tunnel, I may need to return now.

After returning, I saw that John hadn't come back yet, there were still more than 5 tunnels left for me to go, maybe I should go there for sure! Then I changed my target to the first tunnel on the left. 

The first thing that appeared in front of me when I came into the room of that tunnel was a dead body of a scientist that was sitting on the ground.

That corpse seemed to be rotten for a long time, it even showed to the bones, I stepped closer to that corpse and saw that late scientist's nameplate, Viztor Horward.

His blouse had already been scratched a little bit, next to his corpse was also another corpse that stayed on the ground.

I looked closer to that corpse and noticed that was a woman scientist corpse with long-haired. 

I also saw some marks on the corpse that looked like that woman had died because of being choked by someone, her nameplate named Kate Handerson.

There were also some bites on that scientist's neck, head and also her face, her skin had rotten and showed some bones. 

But the way her body had been destroyed like that made me nervous, why did her face got bitten? Who made those bites? 

Then I looked back at the corpse that I saw earlier when I got in, don't tell me! The scientist named Viztor had killed Kate and devoured her body because of his starvation when he got trapped inside the sword mountain?

Haah! Haah! My body felt unwell, I wanted to vomit! I had seen so many episodes of The Walking Dead, I had seen scenes where the walkers ate humans. 

Even looked closer to the details they bitting, swallowing those people's bodies but never felt terrible like this time.

I saw that room was empty but I didn't care if that room had something or not, I immediately ran away from the room and turned back to my previous way. When I got outside, I completely felt better.

But that scene kept haunted me, but I tried to forget it, I saw the third tunnel to the left, should I go? I wondered, then I stepped inside it and went to another room. 

This time was better than before, I just saw a machine inside the room like the second tunnel I went, I also tried to interact with it but seemed like it didn't respond, maybe I should go back now.

That haunting scene still following me, I used my right forearm to cover my mouth, preventing it from vomiting. 

When I got out of that tunnel, I only saw three were three more tunnels on the right, maybe I should go through all of them.

"Sarah!" - I heard a voice come out from the straight line of the tunnel that John had gone when he split up with me, seemed like John had come back

"Sarah! Oh! What's wrong? Your face looks so pale!" - John seemed very surprised when he saw my face, he even pointed his flashlight close to me

"Commander! I, I just, saw something very bad! I saw two scientists' corpses that were trapped here in one of these tunnels, they had devoured each other!"

"Sigh! I just have found something when I'm gone, let me show you!" - John said to me then grabbed my right hand and told me to go with him though my hand was still dirty because of dust 

Then I went with John a bit deeper into the tunnel that he went before, the road was straight for quite long. It took us about 10 minutes to go through it, the tunnel was very dark, it gave me shivers few times.

At the time I and he got out of the tunnel, I saw there was a very large lake that covered the entire tunnel. That tunnel was very wide now, but I saw there was no entrance to any tunnel near there.

I saw that the lake had water, the water that glowed in blue color filled the entire lake, which was very strange to me. I still wonder if that kind of water was drinkable or not.

My mind was still haunted by that scene again! I wanted to vomit now!

"Sarah! Hey, Sarah!" - John shouted to me when he saw I was about to vomit

"The sounds of vomiting!" - I cannot control myself but vomited in front of John but luckily that I didn't vomit on his clothes

Ahh! Ahh! After the vomit, I felt so exhausted, I cannot stand, I was so scared at the scene I saw in that room.

"Sarah!" - John shouted louder to me and pulled my body near to the lake

"Goddammit! Don't just scared like that! That scene is very normal to me when I went to war! Here! Here is some water, drink!" - John took some glowed water from that lake and put it in my mouth

When I was still panicking, for some reason when I was drinking that kind of water, my mind started to feel relieved, my mind stopped imagine about the scene of the death of those two scientists anymore.

"Seem like you are calm, Sarah! When I was still nervous about the reason we got trapped in here, I found this water and drank it, my mind suddenly felt relieved after that." - John said to me, seemed like the thing that he found was something wonderful

"Commander! Is this the end of the sword cave?"

"I don't know yet, if this sword mountain is very deep down of the ocean then there is no reason its route down here will short like that, there must be some hidden routes." - Oh! Seemed like John's thought was right, I also agreed with him 

"Then where is the next route?"

"Don't know, we will find it when we have time, at least we don't need to worry about the shortage of water anymore, this lake can even provide us water for months or years, we only shortage of rations." - Seemed like John was right again

"Just sleep, Sarah! There must be too late now, it's very near 1:00 AM, you sleep here, I will stay guard. We will find a way to get out of the sword cave when you get up!"

"When we find another way out, we will head back to Hatano's place and call her to join us too."

"You don't sleep, Commander?"

"My mom, Kaori, always taught me to stay up late when I was a kid, she always used the military training on me."

I was so sleepy! But was it alright to leave John doing the guard?

"Why don't we change our shifts?"

"Bah! Just sleep, Sarah! I don't want to be sliced by Hatano when she knows I force her little sister to wake up doing the guard!" - John said to me like that, but what was he meant

"I don't understand yet, Commander! What do you mean by being sliced by my sis?"

"Bah! Just sleep!" - John's face was very serious now, maybe I won't disturb him anymore

"Good night! Commander!" - I said to John, hoping he to have a good night then lay on the ground nearby to sleep

"Hey! I'm the one who has to wake up! What do you mean by hoping me a good night? And it is now morning, Sarah! Sigh! This dummy!" - I heard John say something to me but I didn't care and slept right away

Rigen's perspective

Sarah had gone to sleep and I was now sitting near her, what was wrong with this girl anyway? She just had slept at the time her head touched the ground, she slept so easily like that.

I had to do the guard for her, Sarah was sleeping very well, oh! I just smelt some good smells, where was that coming from? Oh! Sarah's hair?

I headed my nose closer to Sarah's hair, her ponytail hair made me want to...Maybe I should think about something else! But her hair seemed to smell very good, should I?

"Sniff! Sniff!" - Haah! What kind of shampoo that she used for her hair? It smelt very good

Maybe I should stop now! If Sarah caught me, she would call me a pervert for doing this harassment

Strangely that the earthquake occurred nearly an hour ago in the sword mountain had ended at the time three of us got inside the sword cave and got trapped inside.

Then I waited a few seconds to have the answer from the other side, then a voice responded.

After calling for Hatano on my radio, I went back to guard for Sarah, at least trying a little bit! Then I noticed, Sarah's hands were now so dirty, they were covered in dust. Why I didn't notice at first.

Sarah's military bag had been removed when she went to sleep, I pulled her to the lake in a gentle pull, I didn't want her to wake up. 

After washing Sarah's hands, I pulled her back again to where she was sleeping and kept guarding her.

My eyes were so sleepy right now! Let's quit the guard, maybe I will go to sleep. 

I crawled closer to Sarah to sleep next to her, also wanted to have some warmth from her body.

After doing that, John went inside there easily, then went to my turn.

I saw a book that looked like a diary, that may be from that man.

"John! Pick up that book for me, I want to know what is written inside."

Then John picked up that book and opened its pages, about to read for me what was written inside it. 

I was so curious about that man's book, I wanted to know what was actually written on it.
