Chapter 1370: Public Embarrassment

Xia Yingluo did not expect her to kick a fuss out of her gown.

This gown was borrowed from Jin Ling’er. Having made her debut not too long ago, Jin Ling’er wasn’t financially very able yet, and there was nothing embarrassing about using her hard-earned money to get what she could afford. As for Xia Yingluo, it was even less embarrassing—even if she came in rags, everyone would recognize her status, and there was no need for her to flaunt her wealth.

She looked at Pei Yan as if she was looking at an idiot. “Yeah, this dress costs only about a thousand yuan, so what?”

Her “so what” shut Pei Yan up right away. She could mock any girl who turned up at a rich girl’s wedding this way, but Xia Yingluo, of all people? She was probably the richest person amongst them. Her allowance was probably worth as much as some people’s assets.

Pei Yan was full of jealousy, but she didn’t know how to insult Xia Yingluo further. “You’re wearing such cheap clothes to attend the banquet, how rude! Where have all your manners gone?”

“Who deserves my manners? You? Or Gu Jinxiu?” Xia Yingluo sneered.

Pei Yan was close to tearing her face apart. She tugged at Zhao Yixuan. “Say something!”

Zhao Yixuan was unwillingly dragged into the picture and had no choice but to say something for his fiancée. He looked at Xia Yingluo, a little pained, and said, “Girls dress up when they’re in a good mood. Yingluo, I know you’re still hung up over the past and miserable inside, and you just can’t bring yourself to doll up. You are also unhappy with Jiang Yu, right? This person can’t give you happiness, you should leave him as soon as possible. Don’t put up a front.”

He was being selfish with these words, hinting at Xia Yingluo to get back together with him.

If Xia Yingluo was willing to return to him, then he was also willing to forgive her and break up with Pei Yan for her sake.

Zhao Yixuan was immersed in his daydream.

A few other guests overheard what Zhao Yixuan said and actually believed that Xia Yingluo was wallowing in self-pity and hence, was unwilling to put in the effort for self-care, casually borrowing a cheap gown for the night.

There was some sympathy in their eyes as they looked at her.

Xia Yingluo splashed a glass of wine onto Zhao Yixuan.

“Ah!”

“Oh!”

The two sounds were heard simultaneously as Zhao Yixuan and Pei Yan tried to evade it but failed. They looked pathetic this way. “Xia Yingluo, what are you doing!” Pei Yan yelled.

The nearby guests looked at her in shock.

“Oh, sorry.” Xia Yingluo casually placed the empty glass onto the tray as a waiter walked past. She smiled insincerely. “I can’t stop myself when I see a cheap person.”

She said he was cheap!

Zhao Yuxuan’s expression was awful, but he looked even more pained now. “Yingluo, I know you still miss me. Your hate is born out of love.”

Xia Yingluo wished she could just give him two tight slaps. She’d already splashed wine all over him, and he still wasn’t sober?

Over on the other side, Pei Yan was on the verge of going hysterical. She took a glass of wine as well and splashed it towards Xia Yingluo. Many of the nearby guests took a few steps back upon seeing it coming.

Xia Yingluo was agile and managed to evade it swiftly. However, her sudden movement had caused her to sprain her ankle, and it seemed like she was approaching the ground too quickly. If she really fell right here, not only would she be embarrassing herself, who knew what injuries she might sustain? As a flurry of things ran through her mind, the dizzy spell from the morning hit her once again, and she was unable to keep herself in balance. It seemed like there was no escaping this fall.

What was going on with her?

She’d just filmed the movie, even if she was running low on energy, it shouldn’t be this bad.

Why was she unable to control her own body?

Out of nowhere, a hand reached out to steady her.

She fell backward and into a familiar embrace. She didn’t need to turn around. Just the scent of the person allowed her to figure out who it was—Wei Lingnan, a familiar stranger.

She regained her footing and pushed him away. “What are you doing!”

They’d fallen to the ground together, and she could not tolerate him touching her.

Wei Lingnan was in a groom’s attire and his handsome face seemed to be covered in a layer of ice. He looked at Zhao Yixuan and Pei Yan with a poker face and said coldly, “Get out of this banquet.”

“What?” Zhao Yixuan and Pei Yan looked at him in disbelief.

He was telling them to leave? But they were guests invited by the bride!

Pei Yan could feel a chill down her spine under Wei Lingnan’s ice-cold gaze. But she was unwilling to bear with this embarrassment in front of such a crowd, so she gathered her courage to speak up. “I was invited by Jinxiu, not you. You can’t chase me out.” She then directed her gaze to Gu Jinxiu, who was just beside Wei Lingnan. “Jinxiu, this slut Xia Yingluo is acting inappropriately in your face, you should be chasing her away!”

A few other guests watched as the show unfolded. When Wei Lingnan reached out to support Xia Yingluo when she lost her balance, they could see how awful Gu Jinxiu’s expression was. Gu Jinxiu’s anger had not been quelled yet, and she said to Wei Lingnan, “That’s right, Xia Yingluo should be the one to leave. What right does she have to bully my friend?” She was the one who couldn’t tolerate Xia Yingluo, but she was now picking on her in the name of protecting her friend.

Xia Yingluo sneered. “How loyal you are. Since you feel so bad about your friend being bullied, why did you invite me in the first place? Were you out to have me bully them, or you?”

The cat got Gu Jinxiu’s tongue and she had no rebuttal. She simply nudged Wei Lingnan. “Chase her out.”

Wei Lingnan glanced at Xia Yingluo. She had on exquisite makeup today, and she looked extremely beautiful in the natural light. But even with the blush on, she still seemed a little pale and unwell.

He fumed with anger on the inside, and said to Zhao Yixuan and Pei Yan, “Get out, don’t make me say this a third time.”

This time, there was a menace in his voice.

Zhao Yixuan and Pei Yan could feel their hearts pounding. This man was… terrifying!

They were about to pick a fight with him, but with those killer eyes on them, their legs had gone all jelly and they were at a loss for words. There was no way they could defy this man’s orders. With that, they turned around and walked towards the exit, still soaked in wine and looking absolutely pathetic.

The atmosphere was strange.

The guests had interesting expressions on their faces. Why did the groom just chase away the bride’s best friend?

This was definitely the greatest show of the year. It seemed like the bride wasn’t all that important to the groom, after all.

Many of their gazes landed on Gu Jinxiu, some lined with sympathy, while some full of gloating.
