Xia Ling only fell asleep in the middle of the night.
When she woke up the next day, she found herself curled up in Li Lei’s arms and her nose pressed against Li Lei’s chest. His body warmth and heartbeat were so close to her that she felt somewhat uncomfortable. She looked up and realized that Li Lei was looking at her with his beautiful and quiet eyes. She did not know how long he had been watching her.
Seeing that she was looking over, he smiled and greeted her. “Good morning, Xiao Ling.”
Xia Ling struggled out of his arms rather uncertain. Didn’t she sleep back-facing him? She uneasily scanned her surroundings and asked, “Where is the cat?”
She heard a faint meow in answer. The cat had curled into a small ball of fur at the foot of the bed and was still covered in dirt. It looked at her with its damp eyes.
Xia Ling’s heart almost melted. She lifted her arms and warmly said, “Come here.”
The kitten looked at her and then it looked at Li Lei. It hesitated, not daring to move.
Xia Ling looked at Li Lei with some uncertainty. Why was the kitten still afraid of him? Wasn’t the scent of Er Mao on him gone?
Li Lei had an innocence look on his face, but inside, he remembered how he treated the cat last night. Hey, didn’t I threw you out from Xiao Ling’s embrace yesterday? Why are you bearing a grudge? If Xiao Ling realizes the truth, I will skin you alive. He thought.
He secretly shot a vicious look at the small cat.
The kitten felt more wronged, lightly wagged its tail and laid on the bed looking down.
Xia Ling turned over and hugged it. “Are you hungry? Is that why you don’t have any energy to move?” She lifted its skinny and bony body for a closer look. She remembered that after she brought it back yesterday, she forgot to feed it amidst the chaos and could not help but chastise herself. “I will find something for you to eat.”
“I asked someone to order cat food and cat litter.” Li Lei lifted his wrist to look at the time. He was still wearing the Rolex that Xia Ling gave him a few months ago. “They should arrive soon.”
Xia Ling frowned. “Then we should give it something else to eat first. It is too small, so it will easily go hungry.”
Big Boss Li was unhappy and jealously glared at the small cat. Xiao Ling had never treated him that well.
The kitten shrank into Xia Ling’s arms after Li Lei glared at it.
Xia Ling did not suspect anything. She sat up from the bed in her long coral fleece pajamas and slid her feet into a pair of soft rabbit slippers. She carried the small cat and opened the bedroom door, wanting to go to the kitchen to look for food.
She was still groggy and forgot that Er Mao’s scent was outside the bedroom. The kitten was scared to death and completely remembered what had happened last time. Just as her hand touched the bedroom door’s handle, the cat let out a shrilly meow and struggled to escape her grip.
She could not react in time and had already opened the door.
Only then did she remember. “Oh no, Er Mao.” She hurriedly retreated as she was afraid that the cat would be frightened.
Unexpectedly, after the door opened, the small cat calmed down. It was still a little nervous and clawed her tightly, but it did not have such an intense reaction.
Xia Ling looked at it to ensure that it was still emotionally stable. Then, she looked out of the bedroom and realized that the strong and majestic animal which had beautiful fur was no longer there.
Had it returned to Li Lei’s house?
Li Lei propped himself up on the bed. Sensing that she was not convinced, he lazily said, “Last night, I let Er Mao return back to my house. Without my orders, it would never come here again. I also hired people to eliminate his scent in the house and even sprayed catnip that cats like.” He had never taken care of cats. Last night, he called Tan Ying and gave him a special order to figure out how to let the filthy cat settle down in the house and stop it from being afraid.
Special assistant Tan Ying had never owned a cat before and was greatly troubled by this task. He took a long time before finding out what cats liked and snuck into the house like a thief in the middle of the night to eliminate Er Mao’s scent and spray catnip in the house.

He had even brought over some catnip.
As Li Lei had just gotten up from the bed, his voice was very seductive, and his white pajamas lined his delicate and strong body, revealing his attractive chest.
Big Boss Li put on the pose he thought was his most seductive and waited for Xia Ling to turn around to thank him.
However, Xia Ling did not even look back. She carried the small cat and tested the waters as she walked out of the bedroom. At the start, the small cat was very nervous and looked at its surroundings cautiously while puffing up its fur, but soon, it calmed down after smelling the catnip in the air. The tip of its tail curved downwards and it loosened its grip on Xia Ling.
Seeing that it was not afraid anymore, Xia Ling finally sighed in relief.
In the bedroom, Big Boss Li was very sad. After posing for a while on the bed, he accepted that Xia Ling had no intention of turning back and got up from the bed quietly to change his clothes.
When he walked into the kitchen, he saw a petite and thin girl preparing breakfast for the cat. She poured water into a small bowl and the cat went over to drink it. After that, she rummaged through the refrigerator but could only find fresh fruits, carrots, and kale which were used for salads. There was no canned food or ham.
This was not Xia Ling’s fault but Li Lei’s.
Li Lei did not like it when she ate leftovers, so she was never allowed to leave any in the refrigerator.
However, he could not possibly let the small cat eat the carrots. Seeing that Xia Ling was worried, Li Lei quietly left, and soon, he came back from next door with a large bag of food. “For you.”
Xia Ling took it and realized that there were a lot of frozen fishes and some meats.
“These are all treats prepared for Er Mao and can be used for now.” As Li Lei explained, he defrosted the fish in a hurry and prepared a fresh meal for the cat. He also prepared it on a small plate for her.
Xia Ling took it and softly said, “Thank you.”
“Why are you acting so distant?” He warmly asked.
However, she had already turned around and knelt down to feed the cat.
Li Lei’s heart was faintly disappointed, but he quickly adjusted his mentality. He took a small carton of milk from the side and handed it to her. “This is also what Er Mao usually likes to drink. Should I pour some for the cat?”
Xia Ling glanced at the milk. It was the same limited edition brand of milk that he let her drink when she first went to his house.
“There’s no need for that.” She rejected him. The kitten’s stomach was weak and easily had diarrhea. If it lost too much water, its life would be at risk. After that, she ignored Li Lei and focused her attention on the cat which was eating. The small fish pieces had a few bones, and it was a little difficult to eat.
As such, Xia Ling carefully helped it to remove the bones.
Big Boss Li became even more upset. She treated the dirty cat better than she treated him! He furiously glared at the cat.
However, the cat which was engrossed in eating did not notice him and ignored Big Boss Li.
Xia Ling’s phone range.
Getting up and answering it, Xia Ling found out that it was Wei Shaoyin persuading her to go to the recording studio. “Your progress is so slow, but you are still this lazy! Ye Xingling, you better get here as soon as possible, or I will kill your entire family!”
Xia Ling was speechless.
She hung up and looked at the cat with a troubled expression. If she left, who would take care of it?
As if he saw her worry, Li Lei smiled harmlessly and pleasantly. “Go to the recording studio. I will take care of the cat. You’ve seen that I’ve gotten rid of Er Mao’s scent, sprayed the catnip, and even cooked fish for it. I will treat it well. Don’t worry.”
