She asked carefully, “Dad and mum… do they miss me?”
Now that she was so close to meeting them, she was feeling a little nervous.
Xia Moyan could tell that she was uneasy and assured her. “They both love you very much. Dad is always the one that sends me to pass you your allowance. And mum decorated your room with your photos, as well as installed a new balcony overlooking a flower garden. You have a pet cat as well, right? Mum prepared a little cat house for him too.”
Xia Ling felt more relaxed hearing Xia Moyan’s assurances. Lowering her head, she saw little Hairball striding elegantly over with his furry tail raised up to the sky. He came over and licked her fingers. She gently stroked Hairball affectionately and said with a smile, “I won’t be bringing Hairball with me this time.”
Xia Moyan said, “Up to you. Remember to bring that broken wood-head home, as well as your Ye family parents.”
Broken wood-head? Xia Ling took a while to realize that he was referring to Li Lei. Bringing Li Lei back wouldn’t be an issue, that guy had been hounding her about wanting to go to the Xia Family to get Shaohui and to ask them for her hand in marriage. However, the Ye family parents?
“Why do I need to bring the Ye family parents along?” Xia Ling was mildly put out.
“I know they are rather materialistic and you dislike them.” Xia Moyan responded calmly. He too wanted to teach the Ye family parents a lesson, but now wasn’t the time. He said, “But they are your parents in this life. They still took care of you and are the reason that you’ve survived till today. They should be present at your comeback ceremony to the Xia family.”
“How so?” Xia Ling asked.
“Just bring them along.” Xia Moyan didn’t elaborate anymore.
Xia Ling felt a headache come on as she grumbled. “Using money to entice them? I really don’t want to have anything to do with them anymore.”
Xia Moyan said, “I don’t care what you use to bring them back. You’ve used the identity of a Ye family daughter, so you have to repay them. I’ll go set a Fengshui altar up that will wake Ye Xingfei up so that she will no longer be a vegetable.”
Xia Ling recalled that she had a sister who was still in a vegetative state.
This sister got into a car accident the year that she had reincarnated, and had been lying in a coma ever since, kept alive by drips. She had been lying in the hospital for a good seven or eight years now. In the memories of Ye Xingling, she enjoyed a close relationship with her sister. Saving this little sister for the Ye family would truly be a wondrous thing to do, and would be perfect as repayment for the use of Ye Xingling’s body.
Xia Ling thanked her brother.
After a few days, she received a call from Father Ye. “Xiao Ling! Feifei is awake! Your sister has woken up!” In the call, she could hear a trembling middle-aged man’s voice while he conveyed the joyous news.
Xia Ling smiled at the news.
She was aware that Ye Xingfei would wake up these few days, but she pretended to be surprised. “What? Feifei has woken up?! That’s great news! How did she wake up? Is she okay?”
Father Ye said, “We don’t know what happened as well! She woke up all of a sudden. Your Auntie Liu is overjoyed… Xiao Ling, Feifei has been asking for you ever since she woke up. Can you spare some time to come see her?”
Xia Ling hadn’t gone back to the Ye family home for several years now.

The last time they met, she had just given birth to Shaohui and was staying at Pei Ziheng’s house. Father Ye, Auntie Liu, and Grandma Ye had come to visit to see her child. That time, Auntie Liu and Xia Ling had parted on an unhappy note. Ever since, there had been no communications between Xia Ling and the Ye family, other than the monthly allowance that she had instructed her assistant to send to them.
Auntie Liu had gone around to all her neighbors to complain about what an unfilial daughter Ye Xingling was.
Some small tabloid reporters interviewed her and published it in articles.
Then, Xia Ling was Pei Ziheng’s wife on paper, and Pei Ziheng had sent Chu Chen to deal with the articles. With some threatening, Auntie Liu didn’t dare to speak badly about Ye Xingling anymore.
Of course, she would still insult Xia Ling within the boundaries of her home.
Father Ye realized that his request was a little weird given the strained relationship and said, “Xiao Ling, I know that you don’t like to come home, but Feifei is your sister after all. Can you just come back to speak to her? She’s still staying in the hospital now, so you don’t have to enter the house. Really.”
Xia Ling didn’t really feel like going to meet Feifei as her other sister, Xia Yu, was a nemesis to her and she had a trauma towards a “sister” figure. However, she needed to take responsibility for assuming the identity of Ye Xingling, and taking care of Ye Xingfei fell within her scope of responsibilities.
Moreover, she needed to think of a way to convince Father Ye and Auntie Liu to go meet the Xia Family.
She sighed inaudibly and said, “Okay, I’ll come.”
She asked for the hospital address and realized that it was the same one that Pei Ziheng had chosen for Ye Xingfei. Xia Ling hung up and instructed her driver to send her to the hospital. She bought a bouquet of flowers at the entrance after she alighted.
Donning her sunglasses and baseball cap, she entered the hospital discretely and went up to the VIP floor wards. The elevator door opened to reveal a wide and long corridor with a luxurious heavy wooden door at the end of it.
Memories flooded her mind.
She recalled that the last time she stepped onto this corridor, she had just reincarnated and was a mere trainee in the Skyart training camp. She had caught the eye of Pei Ziheng and he tried to woo her. When she rejected him, Pei Ziheng set a trap and got Father Ye and Auntie Liu to trick her into coming here. The situation had been nerve-wracking, and if not for Li Lei, perhaps she would have been captured by Pei Ziheng and brought back to be tortured. Her destiny would also have changed.
Thankfully, she met Li Lei.
Her sunlight.
Xia Ling strolled down the corridor as she recalled all these memories, before finally stopping in front of her sister’s ward.
She pushed open the thick, wooden door with exquisite flower carvings all around without making a sound.
In the ward, Father Ye and Auntie Liu had their backs to her as they stood by the bed. The three of them were having a conversation. Auntie Liu’s voice was high-pitched and loud. “Feifei, you’re finally awake! Do you know how much I’ve suffered taking care of you all these years? Your terrible sister… she didn’t even come back to spare a glance at you all this while!”
Ye Xingfei’s voice was weak. “Mum, you’ve had it hard… Sister never came back to see me?”
There was disappointment on her pale face and her voice sounded downcast.
Father Ye hurriedly said, “Your sister cares a lot for you, but she’s too busy. Feifei, you aren’t aware, but Xiao Ling is a big superstar now. A Diva! She has so many schedules to go to everyday… she doesn’t have time…”
“She can’t disregard her sister even if she’s really busy!” Auntie Liu interrupted him angrily. She turned and said to Ye Xingfei, “Your sister is a heartless wolf! She’s not my child and there’s bound to be friction between us! Let me tell you, Feifei! Now that you’re awake you have to pay her back for me! You should become a big star as well and take that irritating girl down a notch!”
