Life is hard, a statement that's made by pretty much anyone right? but how many actually mean it? how many have gone through real tough stuff? not as many as the ones saying so I would presume! well, I was just like them as well, until today, the worst day I've had in my life till now.
In a normal-looking hospital, a young man was sitting on a chair, he looked to be in his twenties, more precisely, 21 years old. his hair was black, and his facial appearance looked to be normal for the most part, though there was definitely something wrong with him, his aura was strong, and he appeared to be waiting for something, his expression one of worry.
His name was Crow Rovern, his little sister, Cecile, was still a teenager, she was only 18 years old, she looked pretty, and didn't look much like her older brother, she looked more like her mother, her hair was purple-colored, and it shone beautifully on sunny days, unfortunately, today was a rainy day.
She made a sad face, as she looked at the door in front of her, there was a sign plastered there, it had " Currently Operating ", written on it. Cecile appeared like she would cry at any moment now.
There was a third present in this hallway, Crow's best friend since high school, his name was Mark, he had brown hair, and looked average, for the most part, he wore sight glasses, but they only served to make him better looking, he appeared to be as worried as his friend and his little sister, and wanted to say something to make the air lighter, but couldn't think of anything at the moment.
The three of them didn't have to wait for long before the door with a sign hung on it opened with a loud CLICK, from the other side of the door came a doctor, he didn't look happy in the slightest, which made Crow's heart beat faster, as he expected a worse result than what he was already expecting.
Though before any of the three could say a word, the doctor spoke first, and said in a serious tone, " She isn't suffering anymore...but she's still in a coma till now, and likely won't wake up for days, so I am sorry to say that you won't be allowed to visit her today! ".
The doctor felt horrible, for informing a son, and a daughter, that their mother was in rough shape, but he could only do so, after all, knowing the truth, is better than being told a lie when confronted with these types of situations.
The doctor then continued, " She...she will live for another five years at most...I am really sorry to say this, but, there isn't a solution to cure her, we are only doctors after all...though if you have the money, it isn't guaranteed, but, there is a chance, though I have to warn you, it will be very expensive! ".
Crow didn't care and asked the doctor quickly, he had to find anything, just so he could cure his mother, " how much? ", as he spoke, his aura seemed to explode, he couldn't control his emotions anymore until his sister hugged him from behind.
He calmed down a bit now, but still, his face showed that he was suffering, more than if he was being tortured. the doctor could only look at him, he couldn't find any words to comfort him, and so, he decided to just answer the question posed to him.
" 15 million twisters every month, for a few years at the very least! ", that answer completely destroyed any hope left in Crow's mind, his sister dropped to her knees, Crow didn't help her, instead, his best friend, Mark, did.
As Crow now couldn't even think, there was only one word in his mind at the moment, " DAMMIT! ". Twister was the currency used in this country, and it was a currency that had immense value in the world as a whole.
Crow was working a part-time job at the moment, but he only made 1000 twisters every month, his late father had left behind a couple of million twisters, but those wouldn't hold up for even a year, and the doctor had said, that this treatmant needed years, yet, the worst part about it was, that it wasn't a guaranteed option.
His mother only made 4000 twisters a month, so even with her salary, this was a lost cause.
the doctor immediately said, to not let them completely despair over this heartbreaking news.
" At the very least, you can ask the government to help pay the expenses for her to not suffer in those...last five years of her life...I am sorry my son, I am really sorry! ", unfortunately, the doctor couldn't stick around, since he had other patients to visit as well, so he apologized again, and left the trio there.
Crow hugged his crying little sister, this was a very bad day for the both of them, Mark could only look at them, he didn't know what to say, and as such, decided to not speak for now, and to just let the pair grieve for a while.
Some time passed, and the three of them had returned to Crow's home, well, his mother's home to be exact. Cecile was holding herself, sitting on the couch, her expression sour, her eyes were red from how much she had cried over the news she received today.
Mark was standing beside one of the walls, he was silent even now, the entire room was silent at the moment to be more precise. As for Crow, he was sitting on a chair beside a table.
Hah! I guess that's the only choice left for me han? if I have to, I will do it, mom's life comes first in the end! dad left me to look after her and Cecile, and that's what I intend to do!

It was at that moment, that Crow spoke, his voice resolute, and his tone serious, he said, " I have decided! ". Both his little sister, and a best friend looked at him surprised, they didn't know what he was talking about, and so, they waited for him to continue.
Crow spoke again, this time he said, " I will participate in the Reader's Challenges! ".
Mark looked at him, not sure what to think, he only said, " you realize what you just said right? have you gone mad or what? ". Cecile on the other hand was way more familiar with her older brother and knew he wasn't joking around when he used that tone.
She immediately screamed at him, " Crow! NO! you won't, I forbid you from doing so! ", her anger could be felt in the tone she spoke, still, Crow continued, " I am not joking! I have the strength needed! plus, dad left me a potion, as well as the sword of death! I will have a chance a good chance with that! ".
" If I can win, mom's life will be saved for sure, you know about the Curer and what it capable of doing, its listed as one of the prises for wining, I just have to speed run the tests, and finish it in the next five years! ", even though he had just said all of that, everyone who heard him, would have been able to tell that he was trying to convince himself as well.
" No! I said no, and that means no, what if you die? do you know how many have died trying to do the same thing? I am about to lose mom, I don't want to lose you as well! ", Cecile said, as tears had already started forming in her eyes.
" I am sorry, but I've made up my mind now...I will participate and save mom, also, don't you believe in me? you should know how strong I am! ", said Crow, his voice cracking a bit at the end, he didn't like seeing his sister crying, but he didn't have another choice at the moment.
" I know you're strong, but you've heard that the tests require intelligence as well! ", argued his little sister, but Crow didn't give up, as he asked her again, " don't you believe in my intelligence? ".
" No! no, no, no! it's no! if you still want to go, then go die for all I care! ", as Cecile said that, her tears flowing down like a river, she stormed off to her room, and shut the door, slamming it so hard, it felt like it would break.
Mark Thomson, Crow's best friend had been completely silent while that exchange took place. He looked at Crow, as he heard him say, " I will need you to look after her when I am gone...can I count on you to do that? ".
" hn! even though I am against your choice of joining the Reader's Challenges, I will still do my best to look after Cecile, I will also check up on your mom at the same time, you can definitely count on me to take care of them, hah, I will even steal your position in the family if you don't come back quickly! ", said Mark, trying his best to brighten his best friends mood.
Crow smiled, and punched him lightly on the shoulder, as he said, " You try that, and it's your life that will be in danger! ", he continued, " I will be in the basement, It would be good if you wouldn't let anyone bother me for now! ".
Mark nodded, then saluted Crow, like he was a soldier in front of a great general, as he said, " Yes, Sir! ". Crow chuckled a bit, then left toward the basement.
Hah! I didn't think I would take the potion this quickly! not like I wasn't planning on taking it at all, but at very least in the next month or so, not now, still, I don't have a choice now that mom is...
He couldn't continue forward, as he fell to the floor, his eyes teared up, and he cried for a moment, he couldn't hold back his sadness anymore. a few minutes passed, and he brushed his face, got up, and continued forward.
After a bit of walking, Crow reached the door leading to the basement, he opened it, and entered inside, switched on the lights, and took a few stairs to reach the lowest floor in the house.
This room wasn't decorated in the least, dust was everywhere, and it looked as though it hadn't been used in a while, it was more of a study room than a normal basement.
This was the room used by his late father before he died, it was filled with books, and many manuscripts, there was also a desk filled with papers, and a pair of glasses, his father had used when reading.
Crow looked at the room for a bit, as he was reminded of the time when he would sneak inside without his father's permission, only to get scolded when found out. He then continued until he reached his father's desk.
He opened up the lowest drawer on the sitting side, inside it, he found four manuscripts, he picked up the first one, there was a title written on it, it read the following, " Night Walker ability, level 1 ".
