The Reader's Challenges are a game show, that's hosted only for the rich to watch, it is a series of tests, that the participants have to go through to win whichever prize they choose at the end since there were many prizes available.
These prizes varied a lot, but they were all incredible fortunes for someone to acquire, you want to become a president of a country, that's possible, want to become a billionaire, possible as well, in need of lost treasures, or rare items, possible as well.
The Curer, the item Crow wanted, was a rare SS-ranked item, that is known to be able to cure anything aside from death, this item was so strong, it could even rebuild your lost parts from scratch, but Crow didn't have the time to look for it, since the world was large, and he wasn't even sure he would be able to find it in the end.
And so, he decided to participate in the Reader's Challenges, where, if he won, he would not only get one Curer, but two, and since this item worked twice before it broke, he would have four times of incredible healing.
This game was created by the Reader, his real name is, Klein Ausso, and he was a Player, a term used to call those who had one of the 28 abilities, just like Crow. This wasn't a known fact, as not many in the world even knew about these 28 abilities.
Another surprising thing is, that the place where this game, the Reader's Challenges, took place in, was inside nine worlds. The ability Klein Ausso had acquired was called the Reader, he had already reached its sixth level, the peak of the ability, this level allowed him to create nine separate spaces.
These spaces were filled inside with many structures, and resources, just like a world is, they weren't as big as planet earth, but they were still very big, so big in fact, that Klein decided to call them, the nine worlds.
This was also the reason, Crow's father hid the fifth, and sixth-level potions from him, after all, the level of power they contained, was something unimaginable, after all, the Reader could create nine worlds with his sixth-level.
Something unprecedented, even the high SS rankers were shocked when this information was found out, everyone was shocked, besides those who not only had one of the 28 abilities but had also already reached their sixth level, those people knew that this was the level of strength one acquired from these abilities, just like Crow's father when he reached the sixth level of the Night Walker ability.
Crow had known that his father had a strong ability, that was different than normal ones, but it wasn't until his father told him how the nine worlds came to be, that he truly understood how powerful those abilities are.
The Reader's Challenges had started 15 years ago, 10 years before Crow's father died, they were expected to go on for another 25 years according to the Reader himself, for a total of 40 years of run time.
During those 15 years, only one person had managed to clear all nine worlds, as a person would enter a world, take all the tests there, then advance to the next one, and so on until they finished all nine worlds.
And until now, only one person had been able to do so, his name was Edwardo, he was nicknamed, the Magician, and was, of course, an SS ranker, though when he entered, he was only a C ranker, just like Crow was going to enter.
It took him 10 years to finish, as for the prize he chose, it was to marry the most beautiful woman of that year. The Reader's Challenges had made deals with both women and men, who were ranked as the most beautiful and handsome of the year, to marry the person that won that year.
They were given ample money, and so, had agreed to do so, they also couldn't divorce the person, until two years went by, unless they had proof that they were being abused.
By many, this was seen as the most idiotic prize to be given ever, but the Reader's Challenges gave everyone what they wanted, and it seemed like Edwardo just wanted to marry a beautiful woman, but didn't have much luck, so he used his prize, which he worked for, for over 10 years, 10 years of hardship, and many near-death experiences taking those tests, just to wish for this.
Many started calling him, The Stupid! since the list of prizes you could get after finishing all the tests in the Reader's Challenges, was vast and filled with many important things, but the one person that had finished this game thus yet wished for marriage.
This game wasn't one win, but a multiple party win kind of game, where many could win, still, over the last 15 years, the game has been running, and only one person ever managed to win.
The Reader's Challenges was also a private game, where no one could watch but the truly rich people, as being a pass to watch, could cost one a fortune of millions of twisters, of course, betting on the participants was another big part of this game.

Many of the truly rich people of the world, were ready to spend millions of twisters, just to watch the Reader's Challenges game, since it was the most interesting thing one could watch at present.
This was also the reason, the Reader was the richest person on earth, no one came even close to him, he owned trillions and trillions of twisters, he owned many countries, and islands, so many in fact, that he owned 10% of land from the entire planet.
This, of course, was an insane number, for 10% of land from an entire planet to be owned by a single person, was something astronomically big, this was why the Reader was considered to be the richest person by leaps and leaps compared to a second-richest person.
...
Crow finally switched on the lights of the basement, he looked around, and he thought, 'Ah! this is still way better than using the ability for now, though if I train hard enough, and master this first level, I should be able to see in the dark as I am seeing now, or even a little better'.
He then looked at the sword that was sheathed and rested on the side of his father's desk, this was the death sword, an SS-ranked weapon. And, not just any SS-ranked weapon, it was considered to be among the top SS rank weapons that existed.
It was more of a katana than a sword, but it was still called a sword, it was black colored, with silver chains wrapped all around it, from what Crow remembered, those chains could be used to fight with as well.
It was called the sword of death, not for some grand reason or anything, but simply because Crow's father used it to kill many beasts and monsters, as well as to slay some humanoid living beings during his life. Crow always thought the name was a bit stupid, after all, pretty much any other sword, could also be called the sword of death.
'Hah, from what dad told me, you could use the sword as a club, in fact, I saw him use it like that many times, but of course, as soon as you unsheathed it, it would become stronger by several folds!'.
'I never saw him fight with it at full strength, but from what I've seen him do with it, it really deserves to be considered as one of the strongest weapons in existence! what's amazing about it though, is that this weapon adapts to users' strengths!'.
'Obviously, since I am only a C ranker, I won't be able to handle the pressure of this weapon, I would probably die even! but since this weapon regresses to the user's power level, that means it will only be a C rank weapon in my hands, still, though, it won't just be a C rank weapon, but the strongest C rank weapon, I expect it to even be able to injure B rankers a bit!'.
'Hah! with this sword, the Night Walker ability, and my own chance, I reckon I have a good chance at passing at the very least the first tests! still, the fact that the Reader's Challenges are kept a secret so that no one who isn't a viewer can know a single thing about what's happening inside, is a bit of a downside for me!'.
'All I know is, that there are nine worlds, I have to take all of the tests of a world before I can advance to the next one, till I finish all worlds to win, as well as, the death toll of the game, out of the 3 million participants that have entered, only 1 million is alive at the moment!'.
'That's two million people dead, granted, most of them are D rankers, but still, all those people died, damn, this is the kind of game I will be participating in now, after all, the Reader went through many trials and questioning about this huge death toll last year, in fact, he's scheduled to have another hearing next month, about another problem with the game he's running!'.
Since the start of the Reader's Challenges, many such hearings occurred, not only for a large number of deaths happening each day inside the nine worlds but also for some other reasons, such as giving prisoners sentenced to life, freedom if they could win the game.
But, because the Reader was the richest person, an SS ranker with many SS ran friends, because the viewers of his game held high positions all over the world, and because the participants themselves signed the registration paper, fully knowing that they could die, he had won all those trials.
After all, this was a world run by money and power, as long as someone was rich, and was powerful enough to threaten most of the planet, they could pretty much do anything, which was exactly what the Reader was doing for the past 15 years, with the Reader's Challenges.
Crow looked at the death sword for another moment, then left the basement, he headed toward his little sister's room, he didn't want to leave while on bad terms with her.
