Chapter 2: [Phantom Creation]

 

Twin-tailed Leopards are among the fastest creatures of the Purple Shade forest. As the name indicates they have two identical tails mainly to maintain their balance during their sprint/chase. They can run for hours at their top speed thanks to the tails. Master of the territory René was going to enter, is one such ferocious monsters. Although a solitary creature, facing it without at least six D-rank party members is foolishness. Even then, escape is the only option.

“Rank C and what seems to be a rare Aspect. His agility is already high and will only increase after using swift. It will be quite a tough battle.” 

In Euthania, only people who have aspects can cast magic. Aspects can be said to be the foundation of magic. World energy from surroundings is refined into mana and then stored inside the aspect. While casting, mana stored inside the aspect is either used directly to form a spell or is used to influence the world energy to make changes in reality. Aspect can take form of anything related to the body of the mage or magic user—beast core of twin-tailed leopard or Tail of René.  

Core is the most seen or used form of aspect in Euthania, as it is not only easier to access or maintain but also, is hidden deep inside the abdomen gaining the maximum security it can get. Rare few, have their aspects in form of something other than cores and these few generally have relatively stronger aspects. 

Aspects determine the form of magic one specializes in. A person with a wind aspect, cannot do fire or water magic. Aspects are graded according to their rarity—Common, Rare, Epic, Mystic, and Legendary. 

Although the number of aspects a person can have is decided by his own strengths and weaknesses and if able, he/she can gain more aspects through various means and conditions; the very first aspect must appear naturally. Only after the appearance of the first aspect, can a person hope to cast magic. If the first aspect doesn’t appear on its own, no amount of resources or power can help a person gain an aspect.  

“Although his rank is much higher than mine, given his age he is clearly promoted recently. I’d be shocked if he is able to even show the 70% strength of his total prowess.” 

Unlike humans, elves, dwarfs or other highly sentient beings, who rarely manifest an aspect, monsters and even some species of flora inherently possess an aspect from birth. Some, like this twin-tailed leopard get lucky and are born with a rare aspect. Although having aspects from birth gives one heck of a head-start, the only way a monster can increase its rank is through time. A 25-year-old adult monster ascends to D-rank and only after crossing the age of 100, can it become a ferocious C-rank monster. To make sure that they stay alive for so many years, and not die young, all monsters often enter the state of hibernation and would only wake up, when they are hungry and need to hunt or feel threatened and again feel the urge to hunt. 

Only after reaching the C-rank, can a monster gain territory of its own. It is a fact that after Rank-up, one's attributes will start jumping slowly and steadily. Given the low intelligence and wisdom of monsters, they are unable to adapt to their newfound powers for at least 3-5 years after their rank up and often make many mistakes in their judgment while fighting. It is also the reason, why after rank-up, monsters start hunting so wildly. 

“It’s just been a year since your rank up. You must be quite happy, right? Happy enough to be arrogant and lost in bliss.” 

After cooking up a slightly devious plan; René started getting ready for her initial preparation. 

After calling back the songbird and checking her perimeters with the help of her phantom in case someone pounces on her in mid-casting; René recalled her reasons once more. 

“Sigh... this is going to hurt so f*ckin much!” *Evil Grin* 

 

“A dream, a nightmare, a phantasm, a spirit, a wraith. 
Come to life for my love towards life is true and my lust for power is real. 
Bend the very notion of reality, borrow from the chaos itself, tear the curtain of fate, 
As I beckon thee at my command; for I stand here bargaining life and death. 
Bloom: EIDOLON!” 

 

An extremely sonorous voice echoed, as her surroundings came to life. Slight ripples appeared in front of René as all the words of her chant kept echoing in a faint voice even after she spoke no more; it was as if the trees had taken liking to her voice and now imitating with obsession. 

Pouring all her mana points and spiritual power in one single spell cast for ‘phantom creation’, René slumped to the ground, her breaths extremely heavy and her beautiful face turning pale losing half of its charm. 

Mana points and Spiritual power flowed frantically from René ’s tail as she begins to lose her human form. Previously black hairs now turned white; a shade of gold took over the bright purple eyes. Already small triangular face became smaller as her entire being transformed into a body of a wolf covered entirely in white fur.  

The white wolf, although small looked extremely beautiful, as if a divine creature from the heavens has appeared. Paleness on her face quite clear despite her charm.  

René had cast a spell to create a phantom of a twin-tailed leopard as a part of her plan against the master of the terrain in front of her.  

René ’s mana and spiritual power reserves can only be considered extremely vast and cannot be judged by common sense at all. There are two reasons for this—her Mystic-graded Blue Moon Aspect and more importantly, René is a mythical beast ‘Kitsune’, comparable to Dragons and Phoenixes.  

‘Nine-Tailed Kitsune deceives seven Hells and charms nine Heavens.’ 

Her being the genuine mythical beast is the reason for her powerful attributes. Kitsune from ancient times have managed to charm and deceive every sentient being (the more intelligent they are, the quicker they fell) because of their charm, and René inherits her ancestorial characteristics quite well. In fact, no goddess or demoness can hope to compare to the charm of even the weakest of Kitsune of all times; except for the Goddess of Love, probably.  

All mythical beasts have two forms—the human form and the bestial form. Both forms are their own and considered original. The reason; René couldn’t keep her human form is because the specific attributes that she chose for her phantom ‘Eidolon’ are too high. It is only because of her mythical bloodline and mystic-graded aspect that her chant succeeded. But in the process, she had to pour all the MP and SP she could without dying but at the cost of losing control of her body.

World energy in her surrounding that had already reacted to her chant, got further influenced by the continuous impact of her MP and SP. 

Under the gaze of René in her bestial form, her extremely pure Spiritual Power, mana from her mystic-graded Blue Moon Aspect and the World Energy—all dance together in utter chaos. 

Even after spending so much MP and SP and relying on her bloodline and aspect; the spell was on the verge of collapsing. 

If that happens, René will fall in mortal danger as she no longer has any strength to even move.  

Gathering all her remaining will, René urged her ‘Mana Manipulation’ ability to entwine SP and World Energy. Under the pressure of ‘Mana Manipulation’, the chaotic dance of MP, SP and World Energy started becoming harmonious little by little. 

Feeling pressured, René took out two purple shade flowers and all the remaining rabbits from her space ring and devoured them as quickly as she can. 

A warm sensation traveled from her mouth to her tail and even that was whisked away, but the pressure was reduced, a little. 

Under the constant urge of René and ‘Mana manipulation’, finally after several minutes which seemed like days to René; a loud bellowing roar echoed throughout the forest.

“Uggh~...” René spat mouthful of blood as her complexion paled further, “hahaha~~~” and yet she laughed maniacally at the success of her creation. 

Standing proud in front of her eyes was a perfect copy of a Twin-Tailed Leopard, Eidolon.
