“Okay,” Dongzi nodded and said. “I’ll contact Ah Jin later.”
Kang Ruicheng didn’t say anything more. It was a sunny day, but inside the car, Kang Ruicheng’s expression was sullen. Nobody knew what he was thinking.
Seeing this, Dongzi continued, “Brother Cheng, I’ve been wondering why you sent Ah Jin to Country C? It was not necessary. Other colleagues were qualified for this task. Ah Jin could stay here to deal with more important things.”
Kang Ruicheng glanced at Dongzi impassively and said in a cold voice, “Do you think I would send Ah Jin to Country C for no reason? As for why… You’ve guessed it, haven’t you?”
Dongzi did, which actually made him more confused. “Brother Cheng, why do you suspect Ah Jin?” he asked.
“Because I still have my doubts about A Ning.” Kang Ruichen lowered his eyes. “The day I saw A Ning in my study, Ah Jin should have followed me. But he suddenly disappeared after I went upstairs. Then Mumu ran over and said it was he who asked Youning to come to my study.”
Dongzi thought for a long time but still couldn’t understand what Kang Ruicheng was implying. He asked, “Maybe Ah Jin left because he had something to do? And what does Ah Jin’s sudden disappearance have to do with Mumu’s appearance?”
A cold smile touched Kang Ruicheng’s mouth. “You all know that Mumu prefers A Ning over me. It’s possible that Ah Jin asked Mumu to help A Ning.”
Dongzi suddenly realized that it was just Kang Ruicheng’s conjecture.
He asked in surprise, “Brother Cheng, do you have any evidence?”
“Not yet.” Kang Ruicheng stroked his chin with his thumb. “Ah Jin is very smart and Youning is always quick to respond. If I guessed right, they covered up their actions well.”
Dongzi suddenly understood something. “So you just sent him away so you could carry out some investigations. The point was not the mission.”
“Right,” Kang Ruicheng said calmly as if he had just done a very ordinary thing. He continued, “The person who investigated him told me that there’s nothing wrong with him. Let him come back.”
“Okay.”
Dongzi answered while breaking out into a cold sweat.
He followed Kang Ruicheng every day and thought that he knew him well. But he never knew that Kang Ruicheng had such serious doubts about Xu Youning that he even suspected Ah Jin.
If it went on like this, would Kang Ruicheng suspect him one day?
To suppress the inexplicable uneasiness in his heart, Dongzi changed the topic. “Brother Cheng, what should we do with Ah Jin after he comes back?”
“Since there’s nothing unusual about him, we can’t alert him. Just treat him as before. Otherwise, he’ll discover the reason why I sent him to Country C.” After a pause, Kang Ruicheng continued, “If my guess is wrong and Ah Jin really wants to follow us, then he will be a good man, just like you.”
Dongzi felt a little relieved when he heard Kang Ruicheng’s indirect approval. He nodded and said, “Don’t worry, Brother Cheng. I know what to do.”
Dongzi did not tell Kang Ruicheng that he didn’t believe Ah Jin would betray Kang Ruicheng.
Based on his understanding of Ah Jin, Ah Jin admired Kang Ruicheng from the bottom of his heart, just like him.
How could a person betray his idol?
After they arrived at the destination, Dongzi got out of the car first and opened the door for Kang Ruicheng, asking, “Brother Cheng, what would you do with Ah Jin if he was not loyal?”
“What a silly question!” Kang Ruicheng said coldly. “He would never come back. But I could keep his body intact. That’s the extent of my mercy.”
Dongzi felt chills run down his back although he knew that Kang Ruicheng was not talking about him.
Kang Ruicheng looked at Dongzi and asked, “You should know my style after so many years. Why are you surprised?”
Dongzi became serious in a second and responded, “No, I’m not. If Ah Jin is not loyal to us, he shouldn’t come back.”
Kang Ruicheng was very satisfied with Dongzi’s answer. He smiled slightly and walked into the building.
Dongzi silently breathed a sigh of relief. He took out his mobile phone and called Ah Jin to tell him what Kang Ruicheng had said.
Ah Jin let out a long sigh at the other end of the phone and yelled, “That’s great! I miss our rice and vegetables so much. You can’t imagine what I’m eating in Country C!”
Dongzi couldn’t help complaining about Ah Jin in his heart.
If Ah Jin acted unusually in Country C or if Kang Ruicheng found something wrong with him, he would probably never come back.
However, he didn’t even realize that his life was in danger and only cared about food.
Ah Jin’s heart did a flip when Dongzi remained silent for a long time. But he still said in an innocent tone, “Dongzi, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you speaking? ”
Dongzi didn’t mention that Kang Ruicheng was suspicious of Ah Jin. He answered in a lower tone of voice, “Nothing. Come back when everything is done.”
Ah Jin smiled and said happily, “I just booked a flight ticket for tomorrow. I will arrive in City A in the afternoon.”

“Okay, I’ll send someone to pick you up at the airport.” Dongzi sounded a bit down. “Ah Jin, see you tomorrow.”
Ah Jin noticed the abnormality in Dongzi’s tone, but he didn’t let on that he noticed. He said cooperatively, “Okay, see you tomorrow.”
Dongzi hung up. He sighed and went to work.
Ah Jin, who was far away in Country C, did not realize what had happened. He looked at his mobile phone and was lost in thought.
A few days ago, Kang Ruicheng suddenly told him to go to Country C. It happened so fast that he didn’t even have time to tell Xu Youning about it personally.
He didn’t refuse Kang Ruicheng’s order but just asked about the mission details.
Knowing what he needed to do, Ah Jin noticed that something was wrong.
Kang Ruicheng specially sent him to Country C for such an easy task, which was a complete waste of his abilities.
However, judging from Kang Ruicheng’s tone, he had to go.
Naturally, Ah Jin realized that Kang Ruicheng was suspicious of him. Therefore, Kang Ruicheng found an excuse to send him away and secretly investigated him.
If Kang Ruicheng found anything wrong with him, he might never be able to return.
Because of this, Ah Jin, afraid that a crisis could occur at any moment, had been very careful for the past few days.
Maybe he worried too much because, in fact, everything went very smoothly when he was in Country C.
Today, he suddenly received a call from Dongzi.
Dongzi’s tone told him that his worries were justified. Kang Ruicheng was indeed suspicious of him, but unfortunately, Kang Ruicheng found nothing during his stay in Country C.
Ah Jin suddenly felt that the most correct decision he had made during this period was to get close to Dongzi and gain his trust.
If it weren’t for his trust, Ah Jin would not have noticed the change in Dongzi’s tone on the phone.
Ah Jin rotated the phone in his hand and finally dialed Mu Sijue’s number.
Mu Sijue had been waiting for Ah Jin’s call since he received Ah Jin’s email. When the phone rang, he picked it up immediately.
Ah Jin gave a general update of the current situation and continued, “Seventh Brother, although Kang Ruicheng has nothing on me now, I don’t know if he will find anything after I go back.”
That was to say, if Ah Jin continued working undercover around Kang Ruicheng, it was very likely that his life would be in danger.
At this critical moment, withdrawing Ah Jin would be the wisest decision.
Mu Sijue said, “I can send someone to pick you up while you are still in Country C. It should be easy. You don’t have to work for Kang Ruicheng anymore.”
Ah Jin smiled and said, “Seventh Brother, you misunderstood me. I just told you about the current situation. I don’t mean to leave Kang Ruicheng.”
Mu Sijue was stunned and asked in a surprised tone, “You still want to go back to the Kang family?”
“I’ve thought about it. Kang Ruicheng must suspect me because of Ms. Xu. If I don’t go back, Kang Ruicheng will have more doubts about her and she will be out on a limb.” Ah Jin paused for a moment and continued, “Seventh Brother, I promised you that I would protect Ms. Xu.”
“Ah Jin…” Mu Sijue spoke after a long pause. But actually, he didn’t know what to say.
Ah Jin didn’t need Mu Sijue to say anything. He smiled and said, “Seventh Brother, that’s all I want to tell you. I will return to City A tomorrow. We can meet after you get rid of Kang Ruicheng.”
Then, Ah Jin hung up the phone.
Mu Sijue, who was far away at home, held his mobile phone and was in a daze for a long time.
If he guessed correctly, Xu Youning should be in the Kang family’s old house, in the old city area which was not far away from him.
Did she know that someone was taking a risk for her?
If Kang Ruicheng had doubted both Ah Jin and Xu Youning, they would be in greater danger as Xu Youning had already taken action and left traces.
Kang Ruicheng was a very cautious person. He would check everything carefully.
Once Kang Ruicheng found something, Xu Youning and Ah Jin would be exposed.
The only way now was to bring them back.
Only when they left Kang Ruicheng’s surveillance could they be totally free and out of danger
Mu Sijue had always been a man of action. Thinking of this, he gathered his people for a meeting to discuss the next move.
