On the fifth full day at Primrose Village, word got back that the blizzard had blown itself out and travel could once again resume.

All the attendants packed up the few belongings that they had taken from the train to service the royal family and made their way with relief back to the train.

Once Anna and Portia had served breakfast for Devin and Talia, they withdrew to their servants' train car to take care of other details.

Inside the train car that had been theirs for the duration of the ride, Talia sat with Devin, waiting for Cedric to board.

It was fairly chilly in their train car, but they were bundled up nicely in thick fur wraps and she was keeping Devin busy with simple math problems using a ball and some jacks she had found in his toy box.

"Okay, you remember the rules?" She grinned at him.

"Yeah." He nodded.

"Bounce the ball. If you can catch it, add a jack to your pile. If you can't catch it, I get one of yours."

"Yeah." He began bouncing the ball.

Since Devin was still very young and not that dexterous, he sometimes could not catch the ball, which meant Talia's pile often got larger than Devin's pile.

After every bounce, he insisted on stopping to add or subtract the number of jacks from his own pile.

At first, she showed him how to do it on paper but then he got frustrated with how writing down the numbers slowed down his game so he began to add and subtract in his head to keep the game going a bit faster.

After half an hour, Devin began to tire and she placed him on the bed so he could take a nap.

The train was supposed to be taking off within the hour and Talia was starting to get worried. Cedric still had not boarded the train.

'Cedric?' She cast out with her mind, looking for him.

'Hang on Love. I'm coming." Cedric called out, sounding distracted.

'Okay.' She gave a quick response, not wanting to be a distraction in the event that he was doing something dangerous.

She stood up and peeked out the window of the train, hoping to see him but there was no one loitering around at the station.

A low whistle from the train's locomotive sounded, causing Talia's stress level to rise.

The train was completely full and ready to depart Primrose Village, but she could not allow it to go without her mate.

She was about to go tell one of the attendants that they had to stall the train driver until Cedric could board the train when the door to their train car slid opened with a swoosh.

"Cedric!" She called out and turned towards the entrance.

A large furry white werewolf slipped in, panting hard and smelling of wet fur and reeking of male sweat.

For a moment, she panicked. His fur was completely drenched from the snow and he looked as if he had been running at full speed to get back to the train.

But then he turned to her, his warm amber eyes shining and she let out a breath of relief. He looked his usual normal beastly self.

"Sorry I'm late," he growled as he bent down to kiss her.

The train's horn began to sound, alerting the passengers that it was starting to roll.

"Come here and have a seat." She pulled him towards the wing chair near the pot belly stove.

"You're wet. Let me dry you a bit." She muttered and grabbed a towel.

As he settled onto the chair, the train lurched once and began to depart.

"What happened?" She asked as she began rubbing him down with the towel.

"My men and I were clearing out a group of bears that have come down from the mountains due to the blizzard choking out all their food supply. They have been circling around and preying on the livestock and farmers around this area."

"No, I mean what happened to you? Why are you bleeding?" She began to clean the area where there was a thick amount of caked blood stuck onto his fur.

"Oh that," he waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. "It's nothing. It healed up while I was running back to the train."

"Cedric! Why do you put yourself into that kind of danger?" She fussed as she continued to clean him. "You can't take those kinds of risks. You're all I have!"

He stopped her hand and reached out with his large sheathed claws to touch her face.

"Love, it's okay. I am not going to do anything that will jeopardize our family pack, but we do have a responsibility towards the land that we own."

"What do you mean?" Talia gave him a sharp glance.

"Baron Leboeuf has been struggling to keep Primrose Village and his surrounding farmland from being attacked by the mountain bears." Cedric explained.

"He and his two sons have been doing what they can, but they have been unable to keep the bears from doing major damage to his livestock."

"Is Baron Leboeuf a werewolf?" Talia asked as she began setting up a warm bath for him in the bathroom.

Cedric nodded. "He's a low-level wolf though. He's getting older and he's not very good at fighting. His sons are not much better at it than he is."

"So that's what you've been doing for the past couple of days."

Cedric nodded. "We took out the alpha bear and managed to keep a sleuth of bears from invading Primrose Village today."

"But we're leaving Primrose Village."

He gave a deep sigh. "I'll send a small group of men back to Primrose Village to make sure there is adequate protection should the bears return."

"Was Cecil with you?"

Cedric shook his head. "No. He should be on the train, in his designated car."

"And Vander?"

Cedric smiled. "He flew on ahead. He said traveling by train was too slow for his taste. He said he would meet us at the train station once we reached Faria."

Talia added some warm epsom salt into the water along with more boiling water from the kettle. His bath began to steam nicely.

She came back out into the sitting area.

"Come. Your bath is ready."

"We also gave a ride to Andre Kossova and his men." Cedric informed her as he stood up.

Talia sniffed. They were the ones who had taken over most of the inn and had not been willing to share any of their rooms.

Cedric laughed. "Don't worry. I packed them all in like sardines into two of our spare cars. It will be a rough ride for them until we get back to Faria."

"Good. Now they will know what it feels like to have to pack into a small space." Talia wrinkled up her nose.

Cedric began stretching out into his full 7' height, even as his bones and joints began cracking and popping.

With a grimace, he slowly and with some pain, morphed back into his human form.

As he shrank back down to his usual 6'2" height, his long ash blond hair hung down in damp dirty strings and his body reverted back to his intensely savage athletic male physique.

"Into the bath you go.." She pushed his naked body towards the bathroom where she had set up warm water for him.
