It didn’t take long for the samurai to kill off all the beasts, but unfortunately, by that point, most of the villagers died, and the beasts destroyed pretty much all the homes and crops. The ones who survived could choose to stay here and rebuild, but without an immediate source of food, they won’t last long.
Hina also noticed that the only noise left was the sound of rain and thunder. The samurai have already started collecting the monsters' dead bodies, holding zero regard for the villagers.
Hina immediately took Mika to try and find Kenji. She was a bit hesitant to call out for him as she didn’t want to attract the attention of the samurai knowing how these rude, lascivious people acted.
“..na…”
“H...a”
“...ik…”
She started hearing voices that sounded similar to Kenji’s, so she decided to go check it out.
The voice got louder and clearer the closer she got, and she knew that the one calling out was Kenji.
The two ended up catching sight of each other and ran after one another with tears in their eyes.
Kenji was covered in blood with several cuts and gashes on his body, but at least he was alive.
The two hugged each other, with Mika in between for a while before letting go. Hina could now get a good look at Kenji and see how messed up he was. She told Kenji to sit down and rest while she went to look for something to wrap up his injuries with. She left Mika in his care and ran.
A few minutes later, she returned with a bunch of cloth in her arms. She washed them off to clean all of the dirt off them, started to wipe down his wounds, and then proceeded to try and stop the bleeding.
After Kenji became mummified in cloth, he was able to get a good look around and sighed.
“I guess we’ll be forced to move, huh.” He muttered but hugged his wife and daughter warmly.

Just like Kenji thought, his family was forced to move after that incident. They looted as many resources as they could, but they didn’t last longer than a few days.
They now had to survive off a few plants and berries while begging any passerby they saw for a bit of food.
They tried to find a job in another village or city, but nobody was willing to give strangers what little food they already had.
Mika had to mature extremely quickly due to these circumstances, but despite that, she still carried around a wooden katana.
While remembering the scene the night of the attack, Mika practiced her wooden katana every day. She would practice until she couldn’t even stand or move. Whenever she had the energy to stand, she swung her wooden katana.
She knew her parents were giving her a majority of what little food they had, and Mika always felt bad seeing how much suffering her parents were going through just to make sure she was healthy.
She didn’t want to be too much of a bother and decided she’d search for food at night when they weren’t looking as well. Part of the reason was that all her training needed more energy, but she also did this to ensure she wasn’t taking advantage of her parents. She wanted them to be able to eat just as much as her.
The years went by as they were poor beggars traveling from place to place in hopes of grasping an opportunity, but when Mika reached 8 years old, her father died. He had gotten sick one day, and without proper food, water, and medicine, his body was unable to recover, and he ended up succumbing to his sickness.
Mika’s mother became extremely depressed after Kenji died, and two years later, she suffered the same fate.
Mika became an orphan at 10 years old and had to continue being a poor beggar while searching through a forest for anything extra to eat. She’d eat anything, be it plants, grass, roots, leaves, berries, even going so far as to pick pieces of fruit out of animal excrement.
She did anything to meet the minimum food requirement necessary to train with her wooden katana.
She also started learning valuable hunting and survival skills, which allowed her to catch the occasional rabbit or squirrel.
When Mika was 15 years old, an opportunity struck. A war between two territories was happening near her. Of course, the opportunity was to get her hands on an actual katana!
She had no thoughts of becoming a samurai because all she wanted to do was use a katana.
She had heard from her mother how nasty samurai could be and how nobles might treat her. Her dream was not to become a plaything for nobles, even if she could get ample food and live comfortably with such a lifestyle.
Mika would rather struggle to survive in the wilderness with a katana in her hand than live a comfortable life.
She spectated the war while looking for an opportunity to scoop up an ownerless katana.
Finally, she spotted a few samurai away from the group fighting with each other.
There were 3 people, 2 against 1, but the solo guy looked like he was actually beating the other two.
Mika spectated, burning this scene into her mind.
After fighting for a while, the solo guy was able to stab one of them through the heart. The other guy seemed to panic a bit, seeing how his companion died, and the solo man took advantage of this and immediately switched over to the other guy.
It wasn’t long before he took out that man, winning the disadvantageous battle. Mika held her breath as she stared at the two katanas lying on the ground. Those two katanas were the reason she was here, to snatch them.
It seemed luck was on her side as she noticed a group of people urgently calling for the man. The man sensed this and didn’t bother looting their bodies. He immediately got up and started running along with the group.
Mika waited for a few minutes before she was confident they were gone. She ran over to the corpses and wasted no time grabbing hold of the two katanas lying on the ground.
It was almost like she found her first love when she picked up these katanas, but she held herself back and decided to finish the looting before anything else. She took off the armor that one of them was wearing and the money the two had on them. She also noticed that they had a bit of dried food as well, which was much appreciated.
After ensuring she got everything important, she ran far away from this location before settling down in a secluded area.
She was so excited holding onto a real katana that she couldn’t help rubbing her hand, body, and face all over it. She felt complete while holding onto a katana. It was like a missing limb was reattached to her body.
“I’ve finally found you. Now, my journey can finally begin.” Mika muttered with gleaming eyes.

More years went by as Mika did nothing but train and train and train. If she wasn’t sleeping or eating, she was training.
The only problem with this was her training was so intense that the katanas couldn’t keep up after a while.
At first, she just practiced swinging the sword to get a proper feel for it. She swung thousands of times per day, usually tens of thousands of times.
After a year, she swung her sword nearly a million times before finally feeling satisfied with that one swing.
She spent the next 7 years perfecting the moves she had watched and considered the foundations of swordsmanship.
Mika was constantly traveling and therefore was able to watch a great deal of fights between samurai. She’d also try spying on their training methods and would then overlap what she saw with her own findings.
After spending 7 years perfecting what she felt were the foundations of swordsmanship, she now needed more practical experience. Still, she was far from good enough to suddenly attack a random samurai.
She’s only killed animals and low-leveled monsters but has never been in a proper fight against a samurai. So she created dummy targets using the armor she looted to simulate a fight between samurai. It wouldn’t be perfect, but she had to make the most of what she had.
She then spent the next 3 years perfecting her movement and simulating samurai attacks both with training dummies and in her mind.
After these 10 years of training, she was now 25 years old, and the katanas she looted were chipped and lost their edge. She now needed a new katana, and because she had no money, what better way to get one than to take it from a samurai?!
Mika ended up coming across a rogue samurai and dueling him. The first battle was rough as she had to get used to fighting a real-life person, but in the end, she was able to kill him and take all of his stuff, including his katana.
After that, she roamed the area and started challenging samurai on her journey. Anything that could wield a sword, she’d fight. She would also fight against the monsters, but they were too barbaric and lacked style. Perfecting her swordplay was much harder when fighting them since they lacked intelligence. Meaning they were just too damn easy.
Mika continued this style of training for the next 10 years as well. Usually, she wouldn’t kill the other person unless they challenged her first, she needed their loot, or she just found the other party annoying.
During this time, she had gotten countless offers to join ranks with noble houses, but she always refused, saying she didn’t want to be tied down. Although she refused, she told them they could always hire her as a mercenary. Usually, they didn’t agree and would send assassins to kill her after she left, but Mika didn’t mind. This also served as a type of training for her.
Also, the only reason she said they could hire her as a 3rd party was that she would participate in the wars anyways. The only difference being everyone was her enemy rather than only one side. This was to train her situational awareness, gather experience with fighting on the battlefield, and of course… LOOT!
Oh, the number of katanas she’s looted from participating in war! She could barely count them all! The amount of loot she’d gathered was staggering!
After doing this for 10 years, Mika decided it was time for her to get a katana personally made for her. Except she wanted to find all of the materials herself. This was going to be her personal katana, something that was made specifically for her! If it’s not made from her blood, sweat, and tears, then there’s no point!
She discussed everything she’ll need with a blacksmith to make the katana, including the Saya(scabbard).
She went on a journey to collect all the raw materials for her sword and only returned a year later after she was able to gather the best ingredients. She had gathered the highest quality tamahagane, the highest quality wood for the hilt and scabbard, the highest quality clay, and she was also going to collect her own blood to use for the quenching process.
She then found the best blacksmith in the country and handed him all the materials, including her blood. The blacksmith said the quenching wouldn’t be as effective with her blood, but she insisted, saying it has to be this way.
The blacksmith didn’t say anything else and made the sword for her.
The man took 2 years to complete the sword for her, which was an exceptionally long time, but Mika wanted nothing but the best. Even if she were to only be able to hold this sword on her deathbed, she’d still do it.
Nevertheless, the sword turned out perfect. The scabbard was a dark oak brown, the blade was incredibly sharp and gave off a reddish hue due to her blood, the hilt was simple and the same color as her scabbard, and the guard was black.
As soon as Mika touched the sword, she instantly knew this was her sword. She could sense it; she had a connection with this sword. The size and grip were perfect.
Mika felt like she had been reborn, holding onto this sword. She named the sword ‘Chigatana’ because it was made using her blood.
Her next goal was to become the most skilled swordsman in all of Japan. Not the strongest, but the most skilled.
She had reached the limits of the female body and knew that she could never match a man that has reached the limits in terms of strength. It was just a genetic restriction, one that she wasn’t sad about at all. In fact, she was happy since struggling against a physically superior male would increase her skills as a swordsman!
This is what she was going to do until she died! Love? Wealth? Fame? Ptui! Mika doesn’t need that shit!
She only cares about improving and spending time with her katana!
She traveled across the lands to challenge the strongest swordsman but soon realized something. These men were useless when it came to swordplay! Sure, they were good when considering everyone else, but they spent too much time doing things other than training!
Mika was already at a grandmaster level of swordsmanship, with her only downside being the limits of the female body. She would only consider these men to be at the master’s level, maybe at the cusp of being a grandmaster.
Nevertheless, it was still good training since it was over if she got hit once. She could perfect her footwork and etch the foundations of swordplay and footwork into her body and soul.
After reaching the ripe old age of 45, she knew she would die. Her body was breaking down with all the internal injuries she’d suffered, infected injuries, occasional sickness, constant fighting, and how poorly she took care of herself due to the environments she always threw herself in.
She ended up getting extremely sick, and without the proper treatment, she would definitely die soon. Unfortunately, even if she did get treatment, it wouldn’t matter. No medicine or doctor in this world could possibly treat her.
Mika’s body was shutting down, and there was nothing that she or any doctors could do about it.
“If I’m going to die, then I’ll at least give myself the honor of killing myself. I have lived by the sword and will die by it too! In the end, the only one worthy of killing me is myself! Hahaha!” Miku laughed maniacally.
She grabbed her katana, pressed the tip of the blade against her chest, and stabbed her heart.
Blood rushed into her mouth, and Mika felt her consciousness fading away.
However, before her consciousness dissipated, Mika heard a weird voice transmit to her head.
