After returning to the mainland, Yukiho and I enjoyed the private outdoor bath at the hotel.
We had planned to sleep together, but before that, we had to go to the hospital to get a "after filming check-up."
When I told them about the wild boar, it was decided that I would also get an X-Ray just in case.
"Well, I guess I'll be in the hospital for a while, huh?"
To my surprise, there are several cracks in my spine and ribs.
"Daikichi-kun, you pushed yourself too hard!"
In the private room I was given, Yukiho scolded me harshly. I don't need to tell you how happy I am that she's so worried about me.
From what I heard Yukiho and I had filmed a lot of useful scenes, or rather "high production value." scenes as it is known in the industry. Thanks to that the next shooting has been decided, a month from now.
April, 15th to be exact. Just a few days after the release of the second episode.
We're not going to film any commercials till the rating of the Deserted Island program is released. So in the mean time I have nothing to do, in another words, I'm free.
❄
And finally, the day of the first broadcast.
"It'll start after this commercial!"
"I can't wait."
Yukiho and I are currently at a luxury hotel in Tokyo, I've gotten permission to stay here from my parents. It's shame to admit it, but the hotel bills are being paid by Yukiho.
"It feels kind of strange though."
"What does?"
"Having the beautiful Idol in the commercial sitting next to me."
I'm currently sitting in the same bed as Yukiho in a pitch-black room with only the large TV as a source of light, which is showing Yukiho advertising for an insurance company.
"A beautiful Idol, but I'm not a Idol anymore..."
"But you are still beautiful." We flirted while watching the commercial.
"Tonight, a new legend shall begin..." The narration started and it showed some shots taken form above the Island, and then, the name appeared.
"Heh. Isn't that the wrong tittle?"
The name of our show was supposed to be "Waku Waku Uninhabited Island Kaitakuki."
And yet what appeared on the TV was "Extreme Realism! Living on the Deserted Island of Fear!"
"Didn't the Manager tell you? They changed the name of the show."
"I don't remember hearing about it...Maybe I missed it?"
I picked up my phone from the bed side table and saw that the Manager had sent me a message just now, telling me about the name change. Apparently they had forgotten to tell me.
"They've changed the name so drastically, haven't they?"
"It was the president's idea. He thought it would be more popular this way."
"I see."
The president have the most authority in this project, not even the director and producers can go against him.
"This is it."
The narration ended, and the show began.
First, it showed the exchange between Yukiho and Dois-san when we first arrived at the Island.
"Huh, I don't remember us having this conversation."
"This is a reshoot we did while Diakichi-kun was in the hospital, in the first one he mentioned the previous name so we couldn't use it."
"Oh I didn't know that. They're a pro at this. It doesn't look out of place at all."
The conversation between Yukiho and Doi-san ended, and I appeared. It was so smooth that I couldn't believe they were filmed on different days.
"Daikichi-kun, do you notice anything else?" Yukiho grinned.
"Ah! The logo on the jersey got changed as well!"
"Correct!"
The logo on our jerseys had been changed to the new one, which was so well blended that probably no one will ever notice unless they know what it looked like originally.
"From here on out, I don't have any idea what's going on either."
Usually, the main actors of a TV show check the content before it is broadcast, and if they find something they like, they point it out at that time and ask them to change it. This process can be skipped if everything is left to the staff or if there is not enough time. Yukiho and I wanted to watch the broadcast together, so we didn't check the content beforehand.
"So long!" Announcer Doi left by boat.
"Speaking of which, was Announcer Doi brought in just for this? Wasn't he a regular at the first meeting?"
"In case it wasn't exciting enough with just the two of us, Doi-san was planning to liven things up a bit."
"Oh."
"But since the president has decided that's not necessary... I guess he is done here..."
"I feel kind of sorry for him."
"Yeah, well, it happens all the time in this line of work."
The show is going well.
"I think they probably mistook it for a wild garlic when they were inspecting the site."
I'm now the one on TV explaining the situation with a dumb face. I could only see myself as ridiculous looking, I wanted to shout "Straighten up more!" to myself.
"The president did say they would used this scene, but still this takes guts..."
"I heard the director of the program decided to go with something more thrilling because of the meadow saffron and wild boar incident. Which included the title change."
"I see."
The commercial breaks are well placed and there're several of of them, but all of them had Yukiho in it.
"It's a strange feeling to have the beautiful girl from the commercial sitting next to you on--"
"How many times have you said that!" Yukiho pecks me on the cheek.
I laughed and said "My bad, my bad."
After the commercial break, the show resumed.
"The third is a cave."
"A cave!?"
It was me and Yukiho discussing what will be our shelter, a simple tent, a pit house, or a cave.
"Which do you think is better?" In response to my question, Yukiho said, "Hmmm," with a troubled face.
Then the screen changed and the preview for the next episode was shown.
"How was it? Your first ever television program?"
Yukiho hugs my arm and caresses my chest.
"The hour just flew by."
"I know, I thought so too!"
"Also, maybe because it was my own show, but it was really interesting."
"I know, I know! The staff's editing is also very impressive, isn't it? Even though I know what's going to happen next, I still wonder what's going to happen next."
"I know right, that's so true."
We had a lot of fun talking about the show.
I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be watching TV and discussing it with other people, and it would be me and my girlfriend on the show.
"I am just an amateur so I don't know, but do you think this show is going to be a hit?"
"It's hard to say...I don't know either. Or rather, if I could figure it out, I think I would be mass producing hit shows."
"That's true."
"But, you know, there are ways to check for feedbacks."
"How do I do that?"
"Social Networking Service. (SNS)"
"Like Twitter or something."
"Yeah. However, I don't recommend it too much. There are always people who write horrible things, and it hurts my heart to see them. That's why I don't check the reputation of my own shows. I let my manager tell me what I can improve on, and then I refer to that."
"If that's what Yukiho is doing, then that's what I'll do too."
"I'm sure the manager will tell us tomorrow, so let's not think too much about it today."
"All right. Let's get room service and order a pizza to celebrate!"
"Yes! But it's my money, right?"
"I'll buy you a drink when I get my performance fee, for today, please!"
Yukiho said, "Leave it to me!" She laughed and turned on the lights.
❄
The next day, as I was enjoying my room service breakfast, I received a text message from the Manager. The same text has been sent to Yukiho as well.
"I feel bad to interrupt our meal, but I'm curious, so may I please check it?"
"Of course! I'm curious too!"
We picked up our phones and opened our e-mails. We were shocked by the contents of the message.
"The response is incredible! It's the number one trending topic on Twitter, hands down! People are talking about it all over the internet! And the numbers are in! It's the best start for a show in years! Life on a desert island is coming!"
The popularity of the show had surpassed our imagination.
