He hesitated.
He didn't know that place, or any of its possible dangers, barring the long abandoned Chariot City, which he already knew had nothing to offer him.
For all he knew, any one of those choices could end up saving his life in the future. Likewise, any one of those choices could turn out to be completely useless. They could lead to his doom, depending on what new opponents he might encounter.
The girl looked up at him, wiping her face, now beet red from all the tears.
"... What are you waiting for, now...?" she sobbed. "Just finish it. I was getting tired of this place, anyway..."
He glanced down at her. What possible value could this one person provide to his survival?
He pondered long and hard about it.
"Just do it, already!!"
"Oh, shut up... I'm trying to think..." he sighed, exasperated.
Before long, he had reached his own conclusion.
Taking a deep breath, he brought his finger down.
(Whatever happens, now, happens...)
He pressed it against the glass menu.
(She's absolutely insufferable, alright...)
And chose the servant option.
(... but she could still be useful.)
Regrettably, his credit amount would take a hit... He didn't know how well he'd be able to control her either.
But still, she wasn't a beginner like the other guy. If nothing else, he at least needed to get as much as he could out of her before he ended up doing anything rash.
Taking on that world blindly had almost gotten him killed several times. Well... More killed, anyway.
He opened up the ‘This is who you are’ menu and kept a close eye on the credits box as he saw them decrease in real time.
15,400 was all he'd been left with.
The announcer blared around them once again.
"Transation concluded. Mercenary H.E.L.L.F.I.R.E. has been added to Haruto Maekawa's servant inventory."
The girl let out a quick, squeaky yelp, holding the left side of her neck with both hands.
"What...?"
She looked back at him, at first confused, then frozen in shock.
He let his eyes wander, puzzled.
Had she been wounded there?
That wasn't it.
"Interesting..." muttered the boy as he got closer.
A small, heart-shaped symbol had appeared in that exact place, torn in the middle just like the one that appeared when he used his ability.
It glowed weakly for a single moment, before reverting to a barely visible state. It looked almost like someone had put a tattoo on there while she wasn't looking.
He opened his inventory, checking out the self-explanatory 'Servants' tab, and there she was, mugshot and everything, with the rest of her stats to boot.
Suzuka Inaba, or H.E.L.L.F.I.R.E., as she called herself.
Added to his vehicle inventory were three, similar-looking motorcycles, the scarlet one sat in the leftmost corner next to the other two, which had equally gaudy finishes. Aside from that, he had a few new items in the support tab, no more than half a dozen, none of which he could recognize.
Whatever amount of credits she might've had was gone, or at least it wasn't transferred to him. He doubted, though, that she would've gotten to keep it, since everything else she'd previously owned had passed down to him the moment he chose the servant option.
"Huh... I guess I own you now. Neat."
"What the hell do you want from me...?"
"Answers. And some extra muscle. Your ability might come in handy, sooner or later." he sighed, extending out an open hand to her.
He still wasn't completely sure about that decision, but hopefully, there ought to be some way to make back all the money he'd lost.
Or rather, they money they'd lost. Her items belonged to him now.
Anything she picked up or tried to store from now on would likely go to him instead. Without a vehicle, there was nowhere for her to run.
Regardless, she waved his hand away in defiance, stumbling back up on her own and producing a small flame in her right palm, holding it right in front of his face.

"Why would I help you? Why don't I just scorch you down right now?"
"Well... I wonder...? Go right ahead! Burn me to the ground."
She didn't move an inch. And neither did the flame.
"... So? Won't you attack me?"
"..."
"You can't do it, can you?"
As she lowered her hand, the flame extinguished in-between her fingers. Her other hand had risen briefly to the mark in her neck, the tips of her fingers running once through it.
"It was just a bluff, right?"
"..."
"If you did try to wound me, what would happen? Would that servant seal there punish you? Something painful, maybe? Or would it be something else?"
"..."
She wouldn't answer, simply limiting herself to keeping her eyes averted from his.
On the brighter side, it seemed at least she wasn't interested in fighting anymore, though it bothered him that she wouldn't at least give him an explanation.
All he could assume, for now, was that attacking your own master in a fit of rage would probably not go over very well with this system. If nothing else, Haruto supposed he had that to keep him at ease.
With yet another, deeper sigh, he took a step away from the girl, trying to give her some space to calm down.
"Now that this whole ordeal is over, can we talk like normal people? You have literally nothing to gain from getting in my way, here. No reason to fight. From now on, if I die, you die. Keeping me safe and happy will do nothing but benefit you as you currently are! So, riddle me this: what is this Chariot City and where did everyone else go?"
He heard her mutter something under her breath, barely audible from where he stood.
"...?"
Slowly turning to face him, she repeated herself.
"Piss off... Who do you think you are!? You just arrive here, give people orders, breeze through everything without even putting in a bit of effort into it and you even laugh in people's faces...! Who do you think you are to decide whether I should live or die!? You're just another nobody, just like everyone in this place! You shouldn’t even have survived this long! No one should have that much luck..."
"Well... I guess I was born with a pretty high luck stat!" he joked, showing her a tired smile. "Must be the reason why I died... and ended up here. With people like you."
"Stop looking down on me... I... I... After everything I..."
(Oh, man... This really isn't working...)
Up in his forehead he could feel a few blood vessels thicken here and there.
He was hurt, exhausted. The absolute lunacy that this day had put him through insofar had taken an even heavier toll on him than he'd initially thought.
Once again, he was starting to lose his cool.
"Now listen here, matchsticks. Please, level with me for just this one moment! I really don't have time for this. I'm completely lost in this place, I'm terrified of the absolutely horrid shit I've seen happen here and who knows what might be coming...!" he stopped for a moment, struggling to take in a breath. "So I will only ask you one more time. What is this place? How big is it!? Where do I go from here?"
"..."
She turned her head once again. Stubborn to the end.
His hands tightened into fists, his legs moved, propelling him forward, towards her. He was at his wits' end, now. Desperation took over. His mind had broken a long time ago, too. Really, what did he have to lose?
"You will tell me what I need to hear. And if I have to get you to talk by force, I will –”
Just before he could reach her, another menu popped up in front of him, as if to answer his frustrations.
“Servant punishment inventory tab successfully loaded.”
Opening it up, Haruto was met with an absurdly long list of sub-tabs and options he could barely even understand at first.
As the girl’s eyes widened in terror, despite her still fighting as hard as she could to save face, Haruto’s eyes were overtaken by a shadowy leer. Spite moved his mouth, lifting it into a wide grin that could only be described as the cleanest of evils.
I'll take my chance here to thank everyone for reading so far, also for commenting. The ones last chapter especially were very fun and interesting to read. :)
There is only one very small thing I would like to point out here, because of a few comments I read, which is that the motorcycle girl, and [Redacted], the girl from the old world who rejected the MC, are actually supposed to be different characters lol
I'm giving you my deepest apologies here, if it was confusing to distinguish, or just not clear enough, since English is not my first language... I'll be working to make these kinds of things less confusing, and improve this story as it goes on.
Thank you all for your attention once again!
