Doing as she was told, Suzuka concentrated the remainder of her flames onto her right palm, keeping the bike just steady enough with the other one that he could feel safe using the gun for a few more shots.

The girl took a deep breath. She only had one try at that. She had to make it count, if they wanted any chance to win that.

Once again, about two or three bullets from their enemies had already pierced through the motorcycle at one point or another.

Putting all of her strength into that final throw, she aimed right for the tank’s front door, targeting its leftmost edge as the last flame flew diagonally from her fingertips, past the door’s open window and the gauntlet mook sitting right on the other side, who had just barely managed to dive out of the way, allowing the weak, yet bright fireball to directly hit the door’s inner surface, producing a loud crackling noise. There were a few pops and squeals from the door’s outer end, and right before their eyes, its upper portion had suddenly erupted forward, snapping right of its hinges, unable to resist the strong pressure from the inside.

It bowed and sank away from the thug, revealing more of the tank’s interior. It wasn’t all that actually all that different from the cars they’d fought off before when it came to its layout, though Haruto could notice it to be slightly more spacious. The insides of the thing oddly symmetrical, in fact, entirely covered in what appeared to be steel, with occasional clusters of flickering metal boxes and thick cables spread throughout. It had quickly caught fire as well, though not enough to compromise its overall integrity.

“Perfect!” shouted Haruto. “Now bring us closer!!!”

Suzuka, whose ability had now completely run out, seemed to hesitate for a moment, but soon complied. One stern, barely hinged look from her master had told her enough.

There were four men inside, just like the other three vehicles, and although the one with the gauntlet had dropped to the floor for a moment, he had taken no while to spring back up, aiming the weapon back at the boy once again. That didn’t deter Haruto for a moment, however. He was still going to take that door out completely. And then…

He shot the man once in the chest, knocking him far back, past the passenger seat and landing on his friend on the driver’s side, who was startled and lost control of the wheel for a moment. It was far easier to fire at the thugs, now that he’d gotten used to the weapon, and with the door mostly out of the way, which gave him more room to aim at.

Determined to see that feud through, the boy glanced down to the door’s lower left, which was the only part still properly attached to the vehicle, and shot it two more times, completely setting it loose and tumbling wildly along the road, away from the car and far into the horizon behind them, where it vanished without a trace. He turned to Suzuka.

“Just a bit closer!”

Just as she’d been told, she leaned the motorcycle as near to the car’s open passenger side as she could, barely avoiding bumping into it, and from there, the boy held onto each side of the entrance he’d made and jumped right in.

“Now, back off!” he ordered her, and promptly the motorcycle and its now single passenger proceeded to move away.

His sudden arrival startled the two mobs on the back, who had mimicked their two peers on the front and directed their weapons back at him, desperate to dispose of him.

Quickly opening his inventory, he materialized a wide slab, somewhat thin of metal, likely a replacement for some part of the bike, and held it in front of him from one of its corners, which bent to the back.

As the bullets collided noisily with it, he’d quickly realized the thing wasn’t quite strong enough to act as a shield, as a few of the projectiles would occasionally fly through anyway. Still, it allowed him to protect himself to a degree, and shrouded his upper body just enough to make it harder for them to aim at.

Most of the bullets had started to come for his legs, slowly but surely reducing them to a garble of white and gray squares, making it hard for him to move around through that sheer pain as he clumsily tried to fire the rusty pistol around some more.

The other three bastards weren’t his priority then, though. It was the man with the gauntlet, who just now had managed to get up from the driver’s lap and was pointing the arrow straight at his legs as well. He moved as fast as he could, thrusting the metal frame directly onto him and pushing both him and the other guy down, which, in turn, left his back open to more bullets from the other two on the back.

He was at his limit… There was only so much punishment his body could take, and he couldn’t let himself get hit by that arrow, no matter what.

The gauntlet guy kicked him back with force, roaring random profanity in italian as he got up from the driver, who was now just barely keeping the vehicle on track, and as the boy stumbled away towards the center of the vehicle’s front side, one of the thugs on the back had taken his chance to switch to a shotgun, blasting both the metal plate and half Haruto’s right arm to checkerboard pieces as his rusty weapon flew out through the doorless hole, never to be seen again, and he crashed onto the passenger’s seat, the black gauntlet looming clumsily over him as its owner approached.

The man bent his fingers, slowly steadying the gauntlet. If Haruto did nothing, he would die for certain. He could move decently, however, even with all the aching.

Alarming his unsuspecting opponents, he suddenly sprung back from the seat, nearly covered in checkerboard patterns from head to toe, yet still able to stand, and thrusted forward the one arm he had left, his hand gripping tightly around the older man’s lower arm, pulling him down with as much force as he could as he rose up to face him, their eyes just a few inches from each other, even though the man was considerably taller.

The thug had thought ahead, however, and before the boy could defend himself, had been knocked back by a powerful punch to his face. But his grip did not dwindle, and he pulled himself back right away, snarling at him like some raging cur and sinking his teeth into the burly man’s nose. The thug screamed in pain as the sinking teeth twisted and chewed on his face’s tender flesh, and the two of them stumbled around as weakly attempted to shoot the spear on the loony teenager, but the kid’s hand was in the way, pushing his arm down and throwing his aim off each and every time as countless arrows shot around the inside of the vehicle, stabbing at the windows, flooring, and even the ceiling.

Panicking at the savagery, the savagery, the shotgun guy tried to take aim at the boy once again. One shot to the head and he would be finished. He hesitated for a moment, just like his two other peers had, since just as well he could easily miss the boy and end up hitting his partner instead, who was still stuck with him. In the end, though, he had decided it was worth the risk, and taken aim once again. And unfortunately for him, the boy had heard him cock the shotgun as well, and twisted the gauntlet guy so his back would face the impact of the shells.

Enraged, the second man on the back, standing farthest from them, decided to leap over the front seat nearest to him and fight the lunatic off, but just before he could reach the two, he had been intercepted by a golden arrow.

Just as their leader had made another desperate attempt at stabbing his aggressor with a liquid spear, a tired Haruto had allowed his arm to finally lift, but forcefully shifted the gauntlet slightly to his right as it fired, missing him by just a few inches, and piercing right through the short man’s stomach.

He shrieked in horror, realizing what had happened, but there was nothing he could do to save himself.

Just as Haruto had witnessed before, his body, clad in the same generic business suit as the other three, had started to waver wildly, and was soon enough sucked in by the same invisible, spiral-like entity, vanishing from that world entirely.

“Brioschi!!!” shouted the shotgun guy, in vain.

Brioschi could no longer hear him. Liquidated.

Now that the gauntlet’s arrow had finally been used up, the driver was able to rush at the the boy in a rage, completely letting go of the steering wheel, separating Haruto from their leader with another punch to his face, knocking him down to the floor as the gauntlet guy was able to push his hands off his coat, checking to see a new arrow had been properly loaded onto his glove.

He pointed it at the boy, who now lay weakly over the cold steel, unable to move even a muscle. The adrenaline and his sudden freakout combined had been enough to drain him of any strength he had left. The mob leader gritted his teeth at the boy, overwhelmed with fury over the loss of his comrade.

“This ends here, you filthy rat!!”

The boy simply smirked back, on the other hand. He was splayed on the floor, battered and weak, but he had won, nonetheless.

Two minutes and thirty-seven seconds had passed since he’d jumped inside that car, exactly.

Do it, now!!!” he yelled with one last breath.

At that precise moment, the tank blew up into a flaming husk, burning nearly everything remotely close to it into a crisp. Including the four people inside it.
