“I don’t know… I don’t know you… But you’re not a stranger either… You…”

He had to tell her. Yes or no. That was always what it came down to, wasn’t it?

Either you said yes, or no.

(Say it.)

Indecisive people…

(Say it!)

People who couldn’t make up their mind… He hated people like that…

(SAY IT!!!)

But he couldn’t answer her now.

He gritted his teeth. Just one encounter had rendered him like this. It frustrated him to no end. He didn’t know what to do.

He and he wouldn’t be doing anything in the near future.

Master. Get back.

Suddenly startled, Suzuka had turned her skill on. Running past him and the other girl and standing defensively, facing the other end of the street.

“Good job, A.K.A.N.E.! You guessed it right on the first try!” a voice rang out in the distance.

He and the blue-haired girl turned around accordingly.

The street had suddenly emptied before he could even notice it.

Aside from the three of them, there were now only four other people at the end of that street. Questionable people.

A single man, wearing the usual sunglasses and business suits, though made entirely in zebra print. Blonde, long-length hair, and an uneven stubble. He was level 35, also a mercenary, and his wheel-name was ‘S.I.X.S.H.O.T.’. He couldn’t see his skill’s title, since he had never witnessed it in use.

Behind him, walked three demure women with matching, cheap-looking dresses.

(Servants?)

There wasn’t anything too exceptional about them, at first glance. The three of them looked similar. Long, blonde hair, tall, tanned skin… Their wheel-names were ‘C.O.U.R.T.N.E.Y.I.’, ‘C.O.U.R.T.N.E.Y.I.I.’, and ‘C.O.U.R.T.N.E.Y.I.I.I.’, and their levels were 22, helper rank. All of them. No, calling them similar wasn’t quite right… They didn’t just share some base appearance or dress code like the previous gangster punks… They looked nearly the same. Interchangeable, you could say. To an almost nonsensical degree.

Though the sight freaked him out a bit, he neverminded it for the moment.

There were more pressing issues.

“Who are you? More of Pizza’s lackeys?” the boy asked.

“How rude.” cackled the forefront newcomer. “You know my name already, so why must we be so catty?”

Haruto wasn’t in the mood for banter, however.

“How the heck do you people keep finding us? That’s not creepy at all!”

“Oh, that? Why don’t you ask your dear, little sister there? One of our greatest racers.”

He turned to the blue-haired girl, whose teary eyes now bulged almost uncannily. Her lips trembled, as she sobbed uncontrollably.

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry… I just wanted to find you…”

“You led them to us?”

“How tragic must fate be?” the thug laughed some more. “To rat out one’s family… There must be no worse betrayal, must there?”

Growing desperate in her tone, the girl tightly clutched his shirt with both hands, pulling it as she cried blindly.

“... I didn’t lead them anywhere!! … I didn’t know…! Didn’t think… they’d follow me… I’m sorry…”

Distraught, the boy would press her for more answers, shaking her back and forth. The girl, however, kept babbling away, despite him not being able to tell apart half of what she said.

“You have to believe me…!! I only… I only joined that gang because… Because I needed to find you… I didn’t tell anyone anything…”

The man chuckled yet again at the other end of the passage, regaling in the loud, weeping mess before him.

“Would you really be able to believe her? After all, she has likely spent more time with us by now than she ever did with you. Perhaps, than she ever will. Can you really trust someone like this, Haruto? Well, whatever. You won’t live long enough to ponder too much about that.”

Over the man’s left hand, a bulky, a pure-white, almost glass-like metal gauntlet, which did not seem to even fit the man’s physique quite right, immediately took form, and he aimed it directly at him.

“Under Lord Pizza’s orders, you and Hellfire over there are now ours!” he grinned madly.

From the top of the glove’s wrist, countless small, bluish orbs of light suddenly sprung out, quickly joining together right above it to form an even brighter, considerably larger sphere, which immediately shot forward towards its target.

“Get down, master!” shrieked Suzuka, pushing him to the ground along with Akane, who gasped in shock at the impact.

The blinding sphere flew right over the three of them, colliding violently with the wall behind them as a deafening cry akin to a dying bird’s chirping echoed throughout the vicinity. The shock of the missed attack had produced a thick screen of dust which quickly spread throughout the empty street, prompting the three teens to cough and wheeze frantically as the structure partly crumbled behind them.

“What the hell even is that!?” Haruto shouted, rubbing his sore back after taking the brunt of the fall against the hard pavement.

“A suppression mesh…! But they’re supposed to be extinct!” muttered Suzuka, her mouth ajar.

“Not quite.” smugly chided the gangster. “Our great lord has no trouble getting around such… fickle hurdles.”

Jerking towards his servant, Haruto demanded she clarify, which took her a second to do, getting her words out through the panic and her hampered breathing.

“... The polar opposite of the liquid spear. It enslaves you on contact. If he hits you with it, you’ll instantly be converted to his servant.”

“Damn it…”

The gauntlet was charging up. He could already see more of the blue orbs forming up, though they were far fewer than last time, not to mention how considerably slower they were.

(Perhaps, that thing has a longer charging timer than the spear?)

Despite looking defenseless, though, the man still grinned at him, as though he knew something he didn’t know. Glancing at the women behind him didn’t garner him anything more, either. They just stood there, dejectedly, without moving even a limb.

Still, he had to do something… Would it be safe to strike now?

“Don’t go, big bro!”

Though he tried to get up to go after their enemy, Akane rushed right after him, pulling him back by one arm.

“What is it, now!? Haven’t you screwed up enough!?”

“I’m sorry… Don’t go! He’s got a dangerous skill that –”

“The game ain’t over yet, my dears!” yelled the excentric man at once, calling up their attention once again with his finger in the air, right over a small icon semblant of a dark, rusty revolver.

Assigned skill activated: Sixshot

Akane kept tugging frantically at his arm, hauling him back towards her by the sleeve through sheer force of desperation as Suzuka gathered her own bearings and got up from the sullied, dusty floor.

The blue-haired girl reached out with her own finger and pressed onto a fist-shaped icon in the air.

“This isn’t good! Big bro, you have a skill, right!? Hurry up and use it!”

Assigned skill activated: Power boost

He, on the other hand, could only stammer in place, completely lost on their situation. It took him a second to finally simmer down and reach out for his own icon, preparing for battle, but before he could do so…

“Out of the way, master!”

Suzuka clumsily kicked the boy in the stomach, tripping him back onto the floor as blinding light suddenly filled the corners of his eyes. A blue, blinding sphere passed right over his head as he lay on the floor, missing his face by just a few inches.

However, that was not a second light projectile that the man in the zebra-patterned suit had just thrown at them.

It was the same sphere as before. It had returned from the hole which had been opened on the building behind them, and darted right towards him in the opposite way it had come from, razing his head just diagonally from above as he fell to the cracked walkway and colliding with its surface just in front of his legs. A second hole had been opened, wider than the first, and yet more rubble and dust had been lifted up.

“You may have dodged the first time, but my ability here will make short work of you two!!” declared Sixshot.

“What!?” the boy couldn’t help but shout again as he crawled away from the site of impact.

“Enjoying the lightshow, Haruto?!” shrieked the thug. “I came up with the choreography thinking especially about you, as per Lord Pizza’s request!”

Akane tried to help him up, but it seemed he was just slightly too heavy for her to manage.

“Big bro, use your skill. Please, whatever it is, you need it!! That guy’s ability lets him rebound anything he fails to shoot or hit you with right back again!”
