Chapter 22 Turning Back to the Trajectory Line of Fate in the Past Life

The summer heat in Jin City was unbearable.

At nine o’clock in the evening, a middle-aged man, about fifty years old and smelling of sweat, ran into the office of the Criminal Investigation Team at the Front Hill Public Security Branch. Looking frantic, he said that his accomplice was going to kill someone and that he wanted to report a crime.

Huang Jianjun, the deputy bureau chief on duty that day, was an experienced police officer. After hearing about the situation, his thick eyebrows furrowed. “Were you kidnapping for ransom, but now it had turned into a case of kidnapping and murder?”

The middle-aged man’s eyes were bloodshot as he said with a trembling voice, “We only wanted to earn some money. We don’t want to kill anyone.”

“Where are your accomplices, and the children? Were they taken to the hospital?”

“No, no, no. Jinshui is crazy and won’t let us send them to the hospital. He has a knife, but we don’t. My brother is trying to stop him from slashing more people. I was afraid that things would get out of hand, so I hurried over to make a report.”

“After six? It’s been three hours.”

Huang immediately took out his equipment from the drawer and placed them on his waist. He ordered the criminal investigation team to get dressed immediately and gather for the operation.

At the same time, he told the team members to use their firearms if necessary.

Several police cars drove to a barren mountain outside Jin City. The middle-aged man who had reported the case came with the police.

On a summer night, the barren mountains were dark. Mosquitoes could be seen flying under the illumination of the flashlights. The sounds of various birds can be heard. In the gloomy forest, the sounds were terrifying.

The police officers had extensive experience doing fieldwork in the middle of the night. They were not afraid of the terrifying sounds and were not bothered by the mosquitoes flying around them. They were more anxious about the situation at the crime scene.

They were halfway up the hill when lights flashed and motors roared at the spot where their cars were parked. Several heavily armed police cars had also arrived.

This place was remote, and the presence of the group of police was conspicuous. “Where did this police force come from?” Huang asked curiously.

Perhaps the people at the base of the mountain had seen them up on the slopes and quickly followed behind their group.

After asking each other, they realized that the Shi family had received a call from the kidnappers and calling the police, the city bureau was alerted. The team that came later was the night security patrol of the city bureau.

“The flood had washed over the Dragon King’s temple,”[1] Huang thought.

Originally, this case would not have reached the City Bureau, but the Shi family was a famous tycoon in Jin City afterall.

Their family’s report immediately attracted the attention of the department leaders. They subsequently instructed one another, “Do your best and quickly solve this case.”

Their goal was the same. The two teams of officers moved together and were led by the reporting officer to an abandoned house in the mountains.

The abandoned house had been unoccupied for a long time. There were no doors or windows, and it was dark inside. Nothing could be seen clearly.

After the two teams approached, they listened to the voices inside and decided to turn on the lights and shine them into the house.

With the lights, the scene inside became clear.

A child was laying on the floor, covered in blood. It wasn’t clear if there was still life in the child.

A middle-aged man was crouched in a corner, holding his head. His body was curled into a ball.

There was another man that was tied up and unconscious in another corner.

On the way here, they had a rough understanding of the case. The criminal investigation team had also seen the situation in the house and could guess what had happened inside.

Looks like the danger is over, Huang thought.

However, the situation didn’t look so promising. At his signal, a few police officers immediately rushed to the child’s side and checked his breathing.

“Still breathing. But he’s very weak,” the officers exulted.

“Quick, carry the child down the mountain to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.” Huang quickly gave the order. Then, he approached the man squatting in the corner and asked, “Where are the other two children?”

“They ran away.”

After hearing his words, the other officers moved quickly to find them.

….

Wangyue had not been to school for three days. Youguang looked at the empty table beside her and frowned.

Shi Tongyang did not come either.

Maybe something had happened at the Shi family?

Youguang had a bad feeling.

She decided to check out at the Shi Family’s house.

“Why are you here, Mrs. Xia?” Hearing from the butler, Zhao Feier packed up and went downstairs. She saw Xie Haitang and Ning Youguang sitting in the living room.

She looked haggard, but she was in good spirits.

“Youguang insists on coming over. I’m sorry to disturb you,” Xie Haitang explained.

“Auntie, why didn’t Tongyang and Wangyue go to school the past few days?”

“There are some matters at home these few days. So I thought I would let them rest at home for a few days.” Zhao Fei’er did not expect this little girl from the Ning family to be so considerate. Her children were not in school, and she actually came to visit.

“May I see them?’

“I’m sorry, they’re not home. I’ll get Yang Yang to play with you at another time.”

The kidnapping of the children because of the construction site was a scandal that the Shi family had to hide no matter what.

Fortunately, her two children were smart and escaped in time without any injuries. However, they had suffered quite a shock. They were not ready to meet with outsiders yet and needed time to recuperate for a while.

“Sorry to bother you.”

Youguang’s face remained impassive, but her worry grew.

As soon as she arrived at the house, she realized that there were several times more guards than when the banquet was held. The workers in the house also looked serious. Something had definitely happened.

On the way home.

“Aunt, can you help me find out what happened to the Shi family? I’m worried about Wangyue.” The little girl had a deep frown and a nervous expression.

Although Xie Haitang did not understand why she was nervous, she still hugged her and comforted her gently.

It took her some effort but she quickly found out what had happened in the Shi family over the past few days.

She didn’t know if she should marvel at her niece’s sensitivity or be shocked that such a tragic thing could happen to the Shi family.

Knowing that her niece was worried about her friend, she told her everything she knew without hiding anything.

“The kid. He’s at Donghua Hospital. Do you want to see him?”

“Go, go now.” Youguang’s face was deadly pale.

In her previous life, when she didn’t know Shi Wangyue, she couldn’t interfere in time with the major accident that happened to him, as she was without a clear timeline then.

She had thought that in this life, her companionship would change his life slightly. She had not expected fate to turn back to its original trajectory in such a surprising way.
