Chapter 23: 16

Jiang Yi sat in the canteen, his emotions seeming to have fallen to the bottom. He met the old professor who had called him over to the elective class when Chu Chuan and he got into a fight.

    He happily greeted him, yet only received the old professor’s suspicious gaze and a “Who are you?”.

     Just like the night when Chu Chuan and his’ love had disappeared, the people who saw proof of Chu Chuan and him also disappeared completely.

     Jiang Yi could only lower his misty eyes and explain, “Teacher taught so many students, maybe you don’t remember me anymore.”

     The old professor believed it and turned around to leave, not noticing the eyes full of nostalgia and depression from the boy behind him.

     He stood up with his plate and walked over to the plates returning station, accidentally knocking into someone while he was in a daze. The unsteady chopsticks balanced on the plate fell onto the floor with a thump. The other person apologised as they bent down to pick it up.

      Just by seeing the familiar curled hair and the familiar voice by his ear, Jiang Yi already realised who they were. He didn’t think before hooking onto the other party’s neck while they were standing up, calling out affectionately, “You’re eating alone, Qiu Shan?”

     Lin Yue’s confused eyes landed on his face, hesitating, “Senior?”

    Jiang Yi froze. He didn’t know who Lin Yue thought he was, but still raised the corners of his lips, silently agreeing, “What’s up, Qiu Shan Junior?”

     Lin Yue reacted half a beat late to Jiang Yi’s question, answering as slowly as a snail, “Ordering takeout and bringing it to my roommate.”

     Jiang Li made an understanding expression, changing to a more familiar tone, “Bringing food for Chuan ge?”

     Lin Yue’s eyes lit up. He had heard the intimacy in his voice and didn’t think twice over why the Senior of the school would call someone in Year 2 ‘ge’, “Can you help me call Chuan ge? I forgot what he wanted to eat and forgot my phone too.”

     Jiang Yi hummed a tune as he pulled Lin Yue towards the takeout window, “There’s no need to call, I know what he wants to eat.”

     Jiang Yi took charge and asked the shifu at the window for a plate of Laziji and didn’t forget to ask, “Shifu, put extra chilli, thanks.” In the end.

     As they were waiting for the food, Lin Yue was called away by Ji Yuan’s Senior sister, “Qiu Shan ah, meeting you this once really wasn’t easy for Senior sister. You promised you’d join the Programming Competition with me last time yet after promising you disappeared. Do you know what this behaviour is called? You want to abandon our son?”

     Lin Yue’s ears reddened, mumbling, “Senior sister… where did this son of ours come from?”

     Senior sister hmphed, “Isn’t the collaborated project our son? Although it’s just a fertilised egg right now.”

     After she said that, she snatched the food away from shifu’s hand, “Want to eat? Then follow your senior sister.”

     Thus for the sake of his food, Lin Yue ran with his Senior sister. Jiang Yi smiled cheerfully as he carried Chu Chuan’s food and walked towards Chu Chuan’s dorm.

     Lin Yue may be blur but he wasn’t. Just based on him attending Lin Yue’s wedding that year, seeing the same Senior sister wearing a wedding dress, he understood. Lin Yue wasn’t tricked away because of his lunch, he was clearly tricked away by that Senior sister.

     After knocking on the door thrice, there was no reaction. Jiang Yi calmly dropped his hand and waited, hearing Chu Chuan’s voice sounding through the door 10 seconds later, “I’m busy, open the door yourself.”

     He had almost instantly guessed that Chu Chuan was gaming again. The him who originally wanted to expose himself quickly swallowed his words. Jiang Yi pressed his throat, explaining slowly the way Lin Yue would, “I forgot my key,”

    A few seconds later, the sound of footsteps got closer and Jiang Yi knew he had succeeded.

     Chu Chuan was wearing headphones and didn’t hear it clearly, so he really thought Lin Yue forgot his key. After telling his teammates in the in-game chat, he put on his slippers and went to the door, pulling it open in one swift motion—

     Yet the curled hair he was expecting wasn’t there. Instead, it was the black eyes of the person who hung by his side the whole day, whose eyes were like the crescent moon when they curved and yet made people annoyed.

     Chu Chuan didn’t speak, slamming the door shut.

     The Jiang Yi left heartlessly outside had a dazed expression. Touching the tip of his nose, which had almost been slammed flat by the door, with lingering fear in his heart. When he finally reacted, he couldn’t help but start guffawing.

     When the person inside heard the laughter, he looked down at the white waist of a retired cadre lifted to his abdominal muscles and the loose, baggy, four-cornered pants hung at his waist, with a trace of frustration in his eyes.

    Don’t give up! Chun ge clearly was almost tricked over by Xiao Jiang’s honeyed words! Something’s happened recently…
