Chapter 40: 32

 The entire time they were hiking, Jiang Yi suppressed the desire to talk to Chu Chuan, to the point that even Chu Jia Ri was suspicious as to why the clingy ghost would suddenly pretend to be a normal student. He sneered, who knows what he has prepared later. 

    As afternoon drew closer, the sun overhead got hotter and hotter. The air was so dry even the shade couldn’t block it, a row of people stopped and took a rest. Chu Chuan squinted his eyes and sat by the water, rolling up the shirt slightly, revealing a small portion of his stomach. On his forehead was a sheen of sweat. 

    Jiang Yi reached out and pressed down his own cap, finding another of the same kind from his bag, waving it around Chu Chuan, “Chuan ge, hat?” 

    Chu Chuan kept silent, reaching out to take the cap and used it to cover the sun on his head and his face, revealing only half of his nose and jawline. Chu Jia Ri shuffled over cautiously, taking up a large half of the space.

    Jiang Yi shrugged nonchalantly and climbed onto the large rock nearby, sitting cross-legged and started playing his phone. Not a single intention of squeezing in between them. 

    As Chang Xi called for everyone to start walking again, Jiang Yi stole a glance at Chu Chuan, only to find that he was already staring at him. Chu Chuan stood by the stone and kept his baseball hat high up, his eyes were slightly lidded, as if deep in thought. 

    Jiang Yi froze, his mouth hanging slightly open and just as he made a sound—

    He suddenly stepped on air and fell headfirst into a puddle, causing a large splash. 

    Jiang Yi: ……

    Why does this feel so familiar??? 

    He fell into the water, but Chu Chuan just watched. 

    The only thing different would probably be that he looked uglier while falling this time.

    The puddle was just under his waist. As Jiang Yi attempted to climb up from the edge, a pair of hands hooked under his armpits and fished him out. 

    Jiang Yi snapped his head up in confusion. He raised a hand and wiped the water from his face, finding Chu Chuan’s face an inch away from his. 

    His wet bag and phone were getting dried under the sun. The sports shoes Chu Chuan was wearing were also placed messily beside them, with his socks thrown to the side.

    The rest of the people stared at them. 

    Jiang Yi blinked furiously and shook the water droplets out of his lashes. Someone sniggered, “You’re so lucky no girls came today, Chuan ge. Otherwise, you’ll get a minus rep after they see your habit of throwing socks everywhere.” 

    Chu Chuan ignored them and hopped onto shore, rolling up the part of his pants that got wet. He kneeled down back facing the sunlight and called, “Jiang Yi.” 

    Jiang Yi stood dumbly in the water. 

    The sun was too bright and hot. His baseball hat was now floating alone on the water while Jiang Yi’s clothes were drenched and sticking to him. His sports shoes were soaked to the point it was too heavy to pick up and his phone wouldn’t turn on. 

    This was quite possibly the worst time of the month for this to happen. 

    But Jiang Yi was still busy spacing out, his heart pounding. 

    “You’re still not coming up? You want to walk back barefoot?” 

    “……”

    “Oh.” 

    Fuck. I got all happy for nothing. 

    Jiang Yi climbed out and took off his wet socks. He couldn’t even be bothered to watch Chu Chuan climb out the water. 

    Yet in the next second, when he had stood up, he threw a few seemingly nonchalant words—

    “Make sure Zhong Yu leaves you a seat for the match next week.” 

    Jiang Yi’s hand paused, his eyes widening.
