Chapter 5: CH 5

The days of being a kept man were smooth sailing. Although the President liked to say strange things from time to time, it was normal. And that day, the subjects of the self-study examination also passed with high scores, and the Stand-in felt that everything was moving towards his goal.

Until one day, the President suddenly called during the day.

The President said, “I booked a room for you in the hotel. Take a few days off as a vacation. You should pack up immediately. The chauffeur will pick you up later.” 

The Stand-in is silent.

Seeing that he didn’t speak, the President added, “I’ll get you back. Don’t think too much; it’s just a vacation.”

The Stand-in is still silent.

The President got anxious: “Talk! Are you crying? Listen to my explanation! It’s only for a few days!”

The Stand-in then said, “Sorry, what did you say just now? I went to get the contract and didn’t hear you.”

The President was silent.

The Stand-in said: “I have confirmed that this kind of itinerary with a designated destination should be a business trip, not a vacation.” 

The President was still silent.

The Stand-in said, “And tomorrow is my day off. If I have to travel on my day off… Is it twice my salary?”

The Stand-in packs up the computer and teaching materials and prepares to concentrate on studying for a few days.

At that moment, the doorbell rang suddenly.

The Stand-in thought it was the chauffeur; but when he opened the door, he saw a handsome young man. 

The handsome young man had a cheerful and gentle smile on his face, exuding an air of good family background and scholarly all over his body.

It was White Moonlight. Judging from the way he wore a pair of door-to-door insurance salesmen, it must be White Moonlight.

The Stand-in hurriedly invited White Moonlight inside, but White Moonlight said, “I was hoping to surprise him, but I didn’t expect anyone to be home.” 

White Moonlight added, “He doesn’t like outsiders in his house, and it’s rare to see him hire a servant.”

The Stand-in quickly nodded and said yes.

White Moonlight has a suitcase on hand with a consignment label on it. It seems that he went to the President’s house immediately after getting off the plane.

The Stand-in doesn’t dare neglect him. He carries the suitcase for White Moonlight, takes slippers for White Moonlight, arranges for him to sit down, and quickly makes tea and brings cakes. 

When the Stand-in phone rang, the driver arrived, and the Stand-in asked White Moonlight what else he wanted to instruct.

“Are you getting off work? Ah…… I have a piece of clothes with a stain on it.” White Moonlight said, “I was going to ask you to take care of it for me.”

The Stand-in quickly said, ‘Don’t worry about me.’ Despite the instruction. 

“It’s just a little stain, so you don’t need to send it for washing, just wash it by hand.”

The Stand-in said no problem; he asked the driver to wait and washed White Moonlight’s clothes by hand.

After everything was taken care of, the Stand-in left work with his bag.

When the President returned home, White Moonlight was the only one at home.

The two haven’t met for half a year. White Moonlight still looks close to the President, like an old classmate, as if the two had never separated. 

After the President entered the door, he looked around the house.

White Moonlight said: “Your servant is very good, and the service is very thoughtful.”

The President’s face stiffened. “Did you see him?” 

“I met him when I first came.”

“He’s not a servant.”

The President’s tone was rarely tough, and White Moonlight felt inexplicable: “But he said he was a servant.” 

The President was speechless.

The President quickly looked at the cake plate that the White Moonlight had eaten and he  confiscated it from the table.

White Moonlight noticed: “Knowing that I’m coming back, you even prepared a cake for me. Thank you.” 

The President didn’t say anything. White Moonlight said, “It’s been too long since I ate this family’s cake. I couldn’t help eating two more pieces. Do you mind?”

“Whatever you want.”

Today, White Moonlight felt the President was inexplicably cold.
