Ch29 - How Fast is Your Heart Racing?

Translator: Mogumoguchan

Yan Qiu instantly held his breath as he tried to push Ji Xinglan’s shoulder.

But Ji Xinglan looked as if he’d heard nothing. He just continued biting Yan Qiu’s lips until they were a little swollen.

It might have only lasted for around ten seconds, but Yan Qiu felt as if half an hour had passed.

Mr. Yang would never think that two students were hiding under the stairs and doing such improper things in broad daylight, so he didn’t look under the stairs at all.

The sounds of the two teachers talking and walking traveled further down the stairs. Then, the noise indicated that they entered the corridor before they went further away. It was only then that Yan Qiu sighed in relief.

If Mr. Yang saw them, it would be the end for him. In fact, he wouldn’t be the only one punished.

Currently, Yan Qiu was so upset with Ji Xinglan that he almost fainted. Due to a lack of oxygen, his eyes had become watery, and he could only use a hand to support himself against the wall as he gasped for breath.

Ji Xinglan finally moved his hand a few centimeters away from the back of Yan Qiu’s head. He rubbed against the back of Yan Qiu’s collar, smiled, and asked, “Good boy. Now hurry up and tell me. Just who is better, your Big Brother, or Xie Yu? Hmm?”

Ji Xinglan seemed to really like playing this “call me Big Brother” game, but this strange kink of his caused Yan Qiu to feel incredibly embarrassed.

Everyone in school had to call Yan Qiu “Big Brother Yan” out of respect, so why was he forced to call this bastard his big brother?

Yan Qiu felt wronged. Of course it was Xie Yu who was better. Xie Yu never bullied him, but Ji Xinglan always tormented as if he wanted him dead.

Yan Qiu braced his hands on Ji Xinglan’s shoulders to prevent him from getting too close. He tried his hardest to maintain a safe distance away from Ji Xinglan so that he could prevent himself from being attacked, should the need arise. However, his knees were like jelly, and he nearly fell to the ground. Ji Xinglan immediately reached out to support him, and he took the opportunity to tuck Yan Qiu’s hair behind his ear. “Are your legs feeling weak?”

Yan Qiu felt a little embarrassed. He defended himself by saying, “Your pheromones are really strong. Anyone would feel their knees going weak.”

It was all his pheromones’ fault. It was absolutely not Yan Qiu’s fault.

When he heard this, Ji Xinglan suddenly smirked. “Did I use my pheromones just now?”

Yan Qiu was a little stunned. Then, he refocused and sniffed at himself.

…Well, it seemed like Ji Xinglan really hadn’t used his pheromones.

Yan Qiu might have been able to defend himself using this excuse previously, but now that he was aware of the truth, his excuse seemed incredibly weak.

If his knees had become weak after the kiss, then it was absolutely not the fault of the pheromones.

Yan Qiu remembered the dream he just had, and he hung his head. He didn’t say a single word.

Ji Xinglan practically had half his body on top of Yan Qiu. He brushed the corner of Yan Qiu’s lips. “You have feelings for me.”

He said it with such certainty and smugness that Yan Qiu really wanted to crawl into a hole and die.

Yan Qiu was almost unable to stand firmly on his own because of Ji Xinglan’s teasing. He tugged at the hem of his shirt, as if he had been bullied badly, and he spoke falteringly. His voice was a little weak. “Y-You’re better, alright? Could you… stop teasing me?”

Even when he saw Yan Qiu reacting this way, Ji Xinglan had no intent to be merciful. “Then, do you want me or Xie Yu?”

Hapless, Yan Qiu could only put his hands on Ji Xinglan’s shoulders. He steadied himself and stuttered, “I-It’s you, alright…?”

Ji Xinglan pecked his red and moist lips, then looked at the faint, red marks on Yan Qiu’s neck. Those were all his handiwork. Then, he said with satisfaction, “Remember this. I am your alpha.”

Yan Qiu used the back of his hand to wipe his red lips and shoved Ji Xinglan angrily. He knew that Ji Xinglan had seen how wet and red his eyes were, and he actually had the galls to laugh at Yan Qiu.

That laughter caused Yan Qiu to feel a little frustrated. His ears were still burning, and he pushed Ji Xinglan to the side with quite a bit of force. Yan Qiu was embarrassed and anxious. He didn’t want to be alone with Ji Xinglan anymore. Before Ji Xinglan could catch him, he ran up the stairs like the wind.

Yan Qiu’s entire body was covered in Ji Xinglan’s scent. Once he ascended the stairs, he had to enter the bathroom to wash his face.

The boy in the reflection in the mirror had red ears. His lips were also red and moist because of all the care the school idol showered on him just now. Nonetheless, Ji Xinglan was a little more careful this time. He didn’t break the skin on Yan Qiu’s lips.

Yan Qiu instantly understood. Ji Xinglan did it on purpose, that bastard!

He cursed the guy in his heart as touched his neck. Fortunately, he felt nothing when he touched. It neither hurt nor itched. It just looked rather shocking.

An omega’s skin was supple. Even when they wore a tight collar, they would leave marks on their skin. When kiss marks were left on them, they were exceedingly obvious. Such marks were left over their fair and smooth necks were a clear indication that someone had lain their hands on them.

Fortunately, Yan Qiu was dressed in a white sweater with a high collar. He could still hide the marks. Yan Qiu tilted his head and pulled out the collar of the sweater, and he did his best to pull it up so that he could block the scattered, embarrassing marks on his neck, though he was only barely able to cover them.

Once he was done, Yan Qiu wandered about the corridor. He let the wind blow against him for a while, and once the scent of pheromones dissipated, he went back to class.

When he was back in class, Yan Qiu immediately put on his coat,  pulling up the collar of the coat while he was at it. Then, he brought out his exercise book from his drawer, with the intention of distracting himself from all the chaotic thoughts.

Before he could even finish a single major question, Ji Xinglan returned.

Yan Qiu saw a few students in the front row turning their heads to look at them through his periphery.

But no one would be able to guess that their kind and helpful school idol had just used the excuse of helping a classmate to push Yan Qiu against a narrow and dark staircase so that he could “take care” of his entire body, to the extent that Yan Qiu had almost started crying.

Language class was over. Sun Mang held a stack of registration forms and walked through the door, as she started talking about the matters of registering for the sports festival during autumn.

The sports festival was being held this week. Yan Qiu had missed half a semester’s worth of classes, so it was only natural that he missed registering for the sports festival.

Yet, even if he managed to register before the deadline, it was meaningless. Sports festivals usually had nothing to do with omegas. Even if there were a few events for omegas, they were really just there to fool around with each other. They would just kick weighted shuttlecocks around or jump rope, and Yan Qiu scoffed at those activities.

However, all omegas aside from Yan Qiu were very interested in the upcoming sports festival.

Since they only had a few alphas around, their sports festival was held together with the military school. This was the event they looked forward to the most every year, because Ji Xinglan would definitely come.

Sun Mang made confirmations of the athletes who would take part in the events, before she handed out numbered books. Bai Yuanyuan might not be participating, but she was stupidly excited. She immediately registered herself as a backup for the cheerleading team.

After all, all the military school students were tall, super handsome guys with endlessly long legs!

All the slots for the competitions were practically filled up, but there was one event that was the most tiring, and no one was willing to take part in it—the 2km long-distance run.

Even alphas would find it tiring after they finished the race.

Chen Gou had previously registered for the 2km long-distance run, but he chickened out at the last moment. He made the excuse that a pre-existing leg injury was acting up, saying that he no longer wanted to take part in it anymore. Sun Mang had a few alphas pick lots, and the one who was chosen in the end was Xie Yu, who became the most unfortunate soul in the world.

As the class was causing a ruckus, Bai Yuanyuan quietly used her terminal to send Yan Qiu a message. She asked him whether Ji Xinglan was taking part in the sports festival.

Yan Qiu knew that he was definitely going to take part, but he still quietly asked Ji Xinglan. Once he learned that Ji Xinglan was taking part, he was delighted.

Because it would be great. If that were the case, Ji Xinglan would definitely not have time to hover around him for the next few days. He would have his rare moments of peace.

Ji Xinglan didn’t know what Yan Qiu was thinking about, and merely believed he was eager to see him compete, so he smiled.

When Yan Qiu went to the toilet, he ran into Bai Yuanyuan at the corridor.

“Babe, why do you have your collar up? Aren’t you hot?” Bai Yuanyuan was curious, and as she spoke, she wanted to help Yan Qiu flip his collar down.

Yan Qiu quickly avoided her hand. He pulled his collar up higher. Just now, she had nearly succeeded in tugging it down. “I’m a bit feverish.”

Bai Yuanyuan gasped and pulled her hand back stiffly. She remembered how Yan Qiu had looked like when he had a stomach ache in class, and she could not but ask in slight worry, “Is your stomach okay now?”

Of course it’s not okay. That bastard’s seed was growing in his belly!

“…I’m fine. It’s just a mild case of gastritis. I’ll be fine after I take some medicine.” Yan Qiu couldn’t quite carry on with the act, so he changed the topic. “I asked that question on your behalf. Ji Xinglan said he’ll be taking part in the sports festival.”

After Yan Qiu told Bai Yuanyuan about the events Ji Xinglan would be joining, Bai Yuanyuan was ecstatic, and a hint of shyness showed up on her face, which was something she rarely showed.

She asked bashfully, “Qiuqiu darling, one question. Do you… like Ji Xinglan as well?”

‘What?’

“No.” Yan Qiu denied it straightaway.  “I don’t. Seriously, I don’t like his type.

‘I don’t like those whose thing down there is bigger than mine.’

“But you always said that you like handsome and built guys who are hung.” Bai Yuanyuan blinked at him in confusion.

When Yan Qiu heard this, he nearly choked on his own spit. He coughed violently.

Why did every single person think that Ji Xinglan was hung? Why could Yan Qiu never sense that he was that huge?

Yan Qiu began plotting how he was going to observe whether Ji Xinglan was really hung, and he stammered, “I… changed my tastes.”

“Oh…” Bai Yuanyuan’s goal was clearly not to ask Yan Qiu about his ideal type. She started acting awkwardly as well. “If that’s the case, could you do me a favor?”

Yan Qiu instinctively thought that it could not be anything good. “What is it?”

“Ah… Aren’t you deskmates with him? You’re close to him, right?” Bai Yuanyuan winked at him. She smiled sweetly. “Could you stuff this into his drawer?”

While she spoke, she brought out a love letter from her pocket. She had even deliberately sprayed some perfume on it.

Yan Qiu found himself speechless.

‘So… am I helping Ji Xinglan cheat on me?’

Naturally, Yan Qiu didn’t agree to it. It wasn’t because he was jealous, but because he had just been taught a lesson by Ji Xinglan today, and if his disobedience were discovered, he hardly believed that Ji Xinglan would spare him a second time.

“It’s better if you hand him the love letter yourself,” Yan Qiu suggested.

“But I feel shy about it. If I hand it to him face-to-face, what should I do if he doesn’t take it?” Bai Yuanyuan was hesitant. Although she was a generally calm person, if she were to be rejected in person, she would still feel very sad.

“Then, put it in his drawer,” Yan Qiu suggested kindly, “He won’t be around after school. Just stuff it in his drawer then.”

Bai Yuanyuan nodded. She thought that it was a good idea. In her excitement, she let Yan Qiu read the love letter she spent two class periods writing. “Help me take a look. Is there a problem with me writing it this way?”

No matter what, Yan Qiu was the former school idol who also had his drawer stuffed full with infinite love letters in the past. With just one glance, he found that Bai Yuanyuan’s love letter… was written really horribly.

Forget about literary grace. He couldn’t even make out her words.

As she watched Yan Qiu pore over the letter as if he were an old man trying to look at his phone while he sat in a subway, Bai Yuanyuan did something sensible, because she knew her own limitations. “I’ll just send you the word doc.”

During the next class, Bai Yuanyuan sent him the electronic word document she finished typing.

Yan Qiu didn’t understand why his admirers could write such passionate words to that rascal. He braced himself and corrected all the wrong words. Then, he sent the revised version to Bai Yuanyuan.

After he sent it, Yan Qiu put down his terminal and brought out his exercise book.

At the same time, Ji Xinglan’s terminal let out a beep. He put down his pen and turned on the screen of his terminal.

Ten seconds later, Ji Xinglan looked at Yan Qiu with a complicated expression on his face. “…Xinglan, your dark eyes are as bright as the ocean, and when I see you, my heart starts racing?”

Yan Qiu thought that something was odd before he widened his eyes. He grabbed his terminal in panic and fixed his eyes on his most recent contact.

‘…Well, would you look at it. I sent the love letter to Ji Xinglan…’

“A racing heart?” Ji Xinglan repeated, as if he was tasting the words in his mouth. Yan Qiu felt his skin crawl, and he scooted back a bit. He nearly knocked over the books on the table.

Ji Xinglan cocked an eyebrow in his direction and grabbed his collar. “How fast is your heart racing? Let me take a look.”

As he spoke, he yanked Yan Qiu’s collar and looked down. Yan Qiu quickly slapped his hand away and tightened the collar around his neck. He said loudly, “No! I sent it to the wrong person!”

Ji Xinglan’s expression turned cold. He read the eloquently written love letter that numbered to a few hundred words once more on his terminal. Then, he licked his lips. “And who did you want to send it to? Xie Yu?”

“No…”

During these few moments, Yan Qiu felt that he would never be able to explain things clearly.

It was impossible for him to say that he helped someone else write that letter for him, but it was also impossible for him to say that it was for Xie Yu. Regardless of which choice he chose, Ji Xinglan could “wreck” him.

“Is this seriously not for Xie Yu?”

Ji Xinglan ground his teeth and put on a rather mocking smile. When he became angry, his devil-may-care attitude was actually rather sexy, and anyone who saw it would find themselves blushing. “So, are the loyal puppy-types really that good? Hmm?”

“I-It’s for you.” Yan Qiu weighed the pros and cons and spoke against his conscience.

Ji Xinglan clearly didn’t believe in his words. He stared at him with a profound look, appearing as if he had been abandoned.

When Yan Qiu saw that there was no one around, he tugged at Ji Xinglan’s sleeves quietly. He didn’t notice that his movements and tone sounded especially as if he was trying to act sweett. He said, “Trust me, okay? It was really for you.”

‘It’s really written for you, but I didn’t write it.’

Ji Xinglan cast a look at the hand tugging at his sleeve before he slowly put away the terminal. Then, he placed his hand over Yan Qiu’s and held it. He clenched Yan Qiu’s hand gently. “Okay.”

“…But I still want to see just how fast your heart is racing.”

Since he had personally taken the blame for writing the love letter, Yan Qiu felt so ashamed that he couldn’t speak to Ji Xinglan properly for the remainder of the day.

Once the bell rang, Yan Qiu slowly packed up his things. After all the students in the class left, he flung his bag over his shoulder and left.

Ji Xinglan stood at the entrance of the stairs, waiting for him while playing with his terminal. When he saw Yan Qiu coming out, he reached out and tugged him.

There was no longer anyone in the school building. Yan Qiu just let him hold his hand. Ji Xinglan first held his wrist loosely, but soon, his hand slid down, and he laced their fingers together.

Yan Qiu was dragged down the stairs in order to return to the dorms to pack his things.

Ji Xinglan couldn’t enter the omega’s dorm, so he could only wait for him downstairs. He had Yan Qiu go upstairs alone to pack his things.

When Yan Qiu finished packing, he was about to leave when he ran into Bai Yuanyuan, who had just come in.

At that moment, she looked excited. “Qiuqiu, Ji Xinglan is downstairs!”

Yan Qiu rubbed his nose and asked her, “Did you put the love letter into his drawer?”

Bai Yuanyuan nodded excitedly. “AAAAHHH!!! Has he already read it?! Say, do you think he’s here to look for me?! No good! I have to put on makeup before I go down!”

Once she finished speaking, she pounced in front of her vanity, opened her drawer, brought out her makeup kit, and quickly applied makeup.

Yan Qiu was worried more people would see Ji Xinglan downstairs, so once he finished saying goodbye to Bai Yuanyuan, he quickly went down, grabbed Ji Xinglan, and ran.

“Why are you in such a hurry?” Ji Xinglan just let himself be dragged away.

“We’re going back to take the cat out on a walk,” Yan Qiu said without turning his head around. As he ran, a tuft of hair decided to stick straight up, as the breeze was kind enough to make it stick in the position. He looked really stupid.

Ji Xinglan lowered his head to cast a glance at the hand Yan Qiu held. He smiled and helped him pat his hair down. “You don’t need to take cats out on walks, silly.”

Mogumoguchan: …2km is long? Also, cats can go out for walks too.

Neirith: Yes, Ji Xinglan, the letter address to “Xinglan” is clearly for Xie Yu. Of course. Of course.
