Ch32 - In His Daze, Yan Qiu Heard Someone Call Out To His Name

Translator: Mogumoguchan

Yan Qiu sat in the audience alone, playing with his terminal.

At that moment, no one was free to play cards with him. Yan Qiu in his seat and swiped at his terminal to search through his contact list.

Today, even Ji Xinglan hadn’t sent any messages to him. That person was currently surrounded by a group of beauties dressed in miniskirts in the field. He had no time to care about him.

When he thought of this, Yan Qiu felt displeased, for some reason. He really wanted to grab him and ask about Lin Wei.

Yan Qiu sat for a while before he suddenly heard noise from the stairs. When he looked over, he saw Xie Yu being carried up the stairs.

“What happened?” Yan Qiu saw Xie Yu leaning against Da Long while he gritted his teeth. He quickly moved over to support Xie Yu so that he could sit down.

Xie Yu limped as he was supported by other people. It was clear that he, judging by his appearance, had sprained his ankle. Yan Qiu quickly got down to roll up his pant leg to check his ankles.

“I… sprained my ankle when I was running the 50 meter dash.” Xie Yu looked rather embarrassed. He seemed to be in real pain, because he kept on sucking in sharp breaths when he talked.

Yan Qiu looked down and saw that his ankle had really swelled up. It looked painful. Yan Qiu reached out to touch it, and Xie Yu started screeching like a pig being slaughtered.

Fortunately, the class committee had already predicted that someone would get injured, so they had prepared medicine and ice packs in the waiting room beforehand. They could help Xie Yu perform simple treatment for his injury.

Yan Qiu asked Xie Yu to remove his shoe, and when he lifted Xie Yu’s leg, Xie Yu, the coward, started shouting out in pain and he nearly cried.

Once Xie Yu stopped screaming, Yan Qiu held an ice pack and placed it against Xie Yu’s swollen ankle. Once the swelling was slightly reduced, he sprayed some Yunnan Baiyao Aerosol Spray on his ankle.

Xie Yu finally had his pain subside a little, and his expression was no longer as exaggerated. He leaned against Yan Qiu’s shoulder with a pitiful look on his face while Yan Qiu massaged him. Meanwhile, he told Yan Qiu what had happened just now.

“I… I had been running just fine on the running track, but someone got out of his lane to push me! Hiss—It hurts—”

At that moment, the broadcast suddenly sounded, and someone made an announcement. “Contestants taking part in the 2km run, please head to the registration desk to get registered immediately!

“Contestants taking part in the 2km run, please head to the registration desk to get registered immediately!”

The announcement was repeated a few times, and the tone gave the announcement a sense of urgency. Yan Qiu picked up the program by his side and took a look. Then, he found that there was still twenty minutes before the 2km event started.

Yan Qiu took a look at their class’ contestant for the 2km event; he was currently in so much pain that he was still crying. Yan Qiu fell silent.

But when Xie Yu heard the announcement, the idiot actually thought about pushing himself up to stand.

When Yan Qiu saw how he acted, he instantly flew into a rage. He grabbed him and said angrily, “Why are you even thinking about running? Do you want your legs to die?!”

As he spoke, he stuffed Xie Yu into Monkey’s arms—who was beside him—before he ordered in a tone that allowed no argument. “Carry him to the medical office. Don’t let him come back before the swelling in his ankle fades away.”

Xie Yu originally wanted to say something, but when he saw that Yan Qiu was angry, he could only shut up and let Monkey as well as Cola slowly lift him up from his sides, and carry him off the stage to head to the medical office.

Once they left, Yan Qiu quietly picked up the number tag Xie Yu left behind on the bench, and he heard the people beside him discuss things.

“If Xie Yu can’t run, who’s going to participate in the 2km run? This is the event that gives the most points. If we’re absent from the match, our class will definitely lose.”

“Then, who should run?”

“No, nope, no way. Don’t look at me. I don’t want to run. Let whoever likes to run enter the race.”

Da Long quietly followed beside Yan Qiu and listened to their conversation. He thought of this question as well.

He reached out and grabbed Xie Yu’s number tag. “I’ll run for Big Brother Yu.”

However, Yan Qiu just cast him a glance and shook his head before he said, “We’re not from the same class. Why are you running in his place?”

Da Long still looked as silly as ever as he patted his head. “That’s right.”

Aside from Yan Qiu, their other friends were from different classes from Xie Yu. No one could take his place for the race.

Yan Qiu originally wanted to egg Chen Gou on, but after asking around, he found that the coward really didn’t want to run in the 2km race, and he even pretended to be sick so that he could skip.

Feeling that since his friend was injured, Da Long was obligated to help him run. So, he suggested and said, “Big Brother Yan, what should we do? Should I pretend to be someone from your class?”

Nonetheless, it was clear that Yan Qiu had his own decision. “I’ll run.”

Yan Qiu unlatched the safety pin of the number tag and started pinning it on his shirt.

When they saw this, the other students on the audient seat found it a little strange. They started trying to dissuade him.

“Xiao Qiu, don’t force yourself. At most, we can just give up.”

“The sports event will be held everywhere. If we don’t take part in it, so be it. Besides, there are always people who give up when it comes to the 2km race. It’s fine.”

The people from the other classes continued fanning the flames while they watched, wanting eagerly for Yan Qiu to give up, because that would mean they lost a competitor. Someone said, “Besides, you’re an omega, why are you running?”

Yan Qiu raised his head in slight anger. He cast the person an indifferent glance. “Then why aren’t you going, even though you’re an alpha?”

That person was rendered speechless and couldn’t reply. He returned to his seat awkwardly.

Yan Qiu didn’t say anything more. He quietly pinned Xie Yu’s number on himself and ignored everyone else while he went down the stairs to the registration desk.

But no one could be blamed for not wanting to help. There were only so many people who could handle running 2km, and it was only normal that no one wanted to run.

Due to the slight delay, when Yan Qiu reached the registration desk, the teachers were about to close registration.

When the teacher at the registration saw that he was an omega, he was a little surprised, but when he saw the number Yan Qiu carried with him, he said nothing.

Even though practically no omega would register for long-distance runs, no one set a rule saying that omegas weren’t allowed to take part in the races.

The staff helped them register and led the group of twenty or so people into the field. They arrived on the race track.

The archery competition at the center of the field was nearing its end, and it was incredibly intense. Ji Xinglan was surrounded by people and did not notice what was going on at this side.

It was only when he stood on the race track that Yan Qiu had some time to warm up.

There were no preliminary rounds and final rounds for the 2km race. The contestants only needed to run through it once, but going through it once was already torture, considering the long distance the contestants had to travel.

Yan Qiu wasn’t an extreme person, and he wasn’t thinking about trying to prove himself just because someone had hit a sore spot.

As a straight alpha of nineteen years, Yan Qiu wouldn’t understand what was a stable phase. What he knew was that he didn’t feel anything during his pregnancy, he felt as if he was currently no different from when he weren’t pregnant. Besides, his belly never grew larger, and it didn’t affect his movements at all. He might be able to complete the 2km race.

In the past, he was someone who frequently entered cross-country races that required him to run dozens of kilometers. He failed to believe that two kilometers was a big deal, and if he really couldn’t handle it, he could just run slower.

The military school students were around, so they weren’t actually thinking about obtaining any sort of place.

Yet once Yan Qiu stood on the race track, he glanced at the large race track worriedly.

Why did the field seem bigger than what he remembered? He might actually find it hard to run five rounds on it.

Aside from Yan Qiu, all the other contestants for the 2km race were alphas, and Yan Qiu looked incredibly eye-catching as he stood among them.

Yan Qiu felt some people beside him staring at him without bothering to hide their gazes at all. The military school students were a little calmer. They seemed to not have batted an eyelid at Yan Qiu’s presence, but they still sized Yan Qiu up quietly.

No one knew what sort of background this omega had and whether he was here for fun or whether he was really capable of running 2km.

Yan Qiu felt a little uneasy as so many people stared at him. He really wanted to shout at them and say, “What the hell are you staring at?! Haven’t you seen a handsome hunk before?!”

Why were they staring at him? He was also an alpha! Even though his body was no longer around, every inch of his soul still shone with the pride of an alpha!

Quite a number of students on the audience stage had noticed him, and they immediately burst into a ruckus. They quickly stood up to watch him, because a pretty omega decided to participate in the 2km race! A few alphas immediately started wolf-whistling in his direction.

Yan Qiu looked away in disdain.

They had less than three minutes to get prepared after they reached the race track, and they didn’t have time to warm up completely. The referee asked them to get ready for the race.

Yan Qiu tapped against the ground and bent his body over the race track to get into the starting position.

A moment later, he heard a bang by his ear. It was from the gun. The contestants on the race track instantly charged out like arrows.

Yan Qiu’s body might not be as sturdy as the rest, but he was rather nimble.

He didn’t fall behind after they completed the first round, and was among those who were at the back, though he had a bit of a hard time trying to catch up.

But there was still a difference between an alpha and omega’s stamina. Soon, Yan Qiu began to feel. He started moving slower, and gradually, he ended up in the last place.

Yan Qiu really only wanted to finish the race, but the sun was high up in the sky, and the scorching sun shone on him so brightly that it was uncomfortable.

He already felt exhausted, but he had only finished three rounds at that point.

When he finished the fourth round, Yan Qiu felt as if his legs were no longer on him. His legs became increasingly heavy, as if they were filled with lead and refused to listen to him. He could only move them repeatedly like a machine while he staggered forward.

He heard cries for the contestants to work harder and cheers pouring nonstop into his ears, but his consciousness was a little blurry, and he could not hear anything clearly anymore.

During that instant, Yan Qiu regretted his decision a little. Why did he have to push himself to suffer through this torment? But that regret lasted for only one second.

He still felt like he had to complete the race.

Yan Qiu didn’t know how he managed to complete the race. His consciousness had already left him, and he didn’t even stop for a single moment of rest. It was as if the only thing that he could do was to continue running forward nonstop.

When he was running the final round, he was running slower than he walked.

While cheers traveled into his ears and the bright sun shone on him, Yan Qiu slowly crossed the finish line. Then, his body turned limp, and he sank down. With all his strength drained, he fell on the ground.

Before he closed his eyes and fainted, he saw the endless sky.

In his daze, Yan Qiu heard someone call his name. That name was very familiar, but he no longer had the energy to think about it. He was simply just too tired.

Mogumoguchan: Well, I suppose he can’t be blamed, because he didn’t warm up properly.

Neirith: And… he inherited a body that probably never had a day of workout. Silly kid.
