Ch71 - Solved the Case

That night, while Ji Xinglan wasn’t around, Xie Yu finally had the chance to be alone with Yan Qiu. He felt like he was a lowly next door neighbor who could only quietly cheat with his married lover while her husband was not at home. Now that he finally had the chance, he wanted to stick together with Yan Qiu.

Yan Qiu moved his books over and sat on the empty desk beside Xie Yu, saying that he wanted to study together. Yet, they just talked to each other for the entire self-study session. Their mock test paper was blank, and they didn’t even write their names.

Sun Mang did not come to observe them today, so everyone either did their homework, played cards, or chatted. It was so lively that they were about to destroy the place and alerted their homeroom teacher.

“Wanna play Chinese poker? I lack two players.”

Bai Yuanyuan had happily finished applying makeup. She thought that Yan Qiu had drawn closer because he wanted to play with her, so she brought out a deck of cards from her desk drawer.

The playing cards were cards distributed on the streets. There was an advertisement printed on the box, and by the looks of it, there were some cards missing.

But they were just killing time, so something was better than nothing.

Once Yan Qiu agreed to play, Bai Yuanyuan shuffled the deck and distributed the cards while she talked with Yan Qiu and Xie Yu. She had heard of a new ghost story, so she told him because she knew that he was timid.

It seemed like every school in the world had rumors about the school being haunted.

Bai Yuanyuan went off topic and gave a vivid description of a secret in the girls’ dorm.

“Hey. Do you know why there are only seven dorms in our school?”

“Why? Aren’t seven dorms enough?” Xie Yu did not know that she was telling a ghost story. He just propped his elbow on the table and leaned forward. His curious expression showed that he was being a really good audience.

The trees outside the window were hidden in an endless night and turned into a terrifying shadow, and whistling moans and strange weeping noises howled. The rustling leaves and swaying shadows of the trees hinted as if there was something hidden in the darkness.

Yan Qiu picked up the glass on his table and took a sip as he looked at the cards in his hand, listening to their conversation.

“It’s not a problem as to whether there are enough dorms. You know how our dorms are distributed, right?” Bai Yuanyuan rapped the table with her knuckles and put on a profound expression. “The boys are distributed based on whether they’re alphas and omegas, and they live in dorms 2, 4, 6, and 8. The girls are distributed to dorms 3, 5, and 7.”

When she said this, Yan Qiu found that there was something wrong.

The girls and boys could see each other’s dorms. Last time, both Xie Yu and Yan Qiu stayed in Dorm 2. Yet, across them was Dorm 3, a girls’ dorm.

Dorms 3, 5, and 7 were arranged in sequence, but while one side of Dorm 3 was Dorm 5, its other side was a basketball court.

Fewer than half of the class stayed in school for the self-study session, so plenty of the seats in the classroom were empty, leaving the classroom desolate.

Bai Yuanyuan intentionally lowered her voice then said mysteriously, “So, where did Dorm 1 go?”

Yan Qiu felt a chill run down his spine. Even though he looked calm, his heartbeat quickened.

‘Yeah, where’s Dorm 1?’

Though he was shocked, he was still an alpha. Aside from a fear of heights and a fear of Ji Xinglan bullying him, he was not afraid of anything else.

Besides, Yan Qiu did not live in the girls’ dorm. Ji Xinglan stuck close to him and practically stayed with him 24/7. He would not let him have the chance to run outside alone.

However, when Yan Qiu looked over, he saw a trembling Xie Yu drawing the curtains.

Xie Yu was terrified of these things. He was an alpha and had no problem jumping over walls and fighting, but he was afraid of ghosts.

‘This was the common tone for horror stories in schools.’ Yan Qiu commented internally as he arranged the cards in his hands.

“After Dorm 1 was demolished, something strange happened at that place. The school refuses to talk about it, so they changed that place into a basketball court.”

“Wh-Why a basketball court?” Xie Yu asked with a humble heart.

Bai Yuanyuan chuckled. “They changed it to a basketball court because they want to use the boys’ yang energy when you play basketball to suppress the ghosts there.”

This afternoon, Xie Yu had skipped classes to play basketball. When he heard this, he shuddered, and he became even more terrified.

“No way…”

Judging by his expression, Yan Qiu knew that Xie Yu would not play basketball at the basketball court again for the rest of his life.

Yan Qiu grinned as well. He drew two cards. “I’m the dealer. A pair of threes.”

“Boss, aren’t you scared?” Xie Yu’s hands were trembling a little. He could not quite hold his cards with a steady hand.

“I adhere to materialism, I have nothing to be afraid of.” Yan Qiu calmly picked up a glass of water and took a sip from it. But even though he said this, those were not his thoughts.

‘I have a boyfriend, so I have nothing to be scared of. My Lan Lan is really good at fighting, and he can kill a monster with just one punch.’

Even after playing a few rounds of Chinese poker, Xie Yu’s face was still a little green.

Yan Qiu saw that his expression was off, so he asked, “Is it really that scary?”

“Boss, I want to go to the toilet,” Xie Yu said pitifully.

“What’s wrong? Peed your pants?” Yan Qiu smiled in resignation. “You’re an alpha, why should you be scared?”

Xie Yu touched his face and chattered on, “Boss, I feel like my footsteps have been getting heavier lately. Do you think my yang energy has already been sucked away?”

Yan Qiu sized up Xie Yu’s slightly plump cheeks and said, “Just eat less takeout.”

In the end, Xie Yu was unable to hold back. After he weighed the seriousness of having his bladder explode or going to the toilet alone, he decided to run out.

Since they were now lacking one player, they stopped playing Chinese poker for the time being. In his boredom, Yan Qiu sent a message to Ji Xinglan then finally brought out a pen to do a mock exam.

Before he finished the multiple choice questions, the backdoor was suddenly slammed open and Xie Yu ran in in panic.

His expression was off, so Yan Qiu quickly went to support him and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Xie Yu gasped for breath, and once he regained his composure, the first thing he said was, “There’s a ghost!!!”

His voice was especially loud in the silent classroom, so the others turned their heads to look at them.

Everyone already knew that Yan Qiu was dating Ji Xinglan, and the gossip about him and Xie Yu finally came to an end, but tonight, they sat together again, and the students smelled the scent of gossip from them once more.

Was this them feeling their love rekindle, or was Yan Qiu cheating?

Was this omega just twisted, or was this the death of morals?!

When he sensed the abnormal, inquisitive gazes, Yan Qiu felt his temples twitch. He covered Xie Yu’s mouth to prevent him from making a fuss.

“Just what exactly happened?” When those people turned back, Yan Qiu asked Xie Yu quietly.

Xie Yu reached out to draw the curtains tightly before he explained incoherently, “Boss, I went to the toilet just now, right? Th-The lights at the corridor are spoiled, and I was a little scared, so I didn’t dare go in. I went to the toilet at the roof of the next school building, the one at the center of the school. Then, when I was standing in a cubicle, I suddenly heard slurping sounds outside, b-but when I came out, there was no one outside…”

Xie Yu seemed to have been terrified. Bai Yuanyuan heard it when she was in front, and she could not help but tease him. “The roof of the center school building is a computer room, right? They won’t open the door to the room at night. No one would go there to eat at night. Besides, what can they eat in the toilet? Poop?”

“I-It’s precisely because there isn’t that it’s scary!” Xie Yu felt like he was going mad.

When she heard this, Bai Yuanyuan’s face instantly turned cold and stern.

Could it be that there was really a ghost that ate poop in the toilet at the roof of the center school building?

Yan Qiu just spun the pen in his hands and had a skeptical look on his face. Clearly, he did not agree with their guesses.

The center school building was Mr. Yang’s territory, so how could that righteous place be haunted?

But when he looked at Xie Yu trembling, Yan Qiu sighed and stood up. “Come on, let’s go and take a look.”

If they did not figure it out, Xie Yu might end up sleepless tonight.

The first three floors of the center school building were the teachers’ offices. The top floor was the computer room.

Since computer classes were practically completely occupied by other classes and no one ever received computer classes, few people went to the computer room. Soon, it was covered in dust. But to prevent people from stealing the computers, the stairs leading to the top floor would always be locked when night arrived.

Yan Qiu stood at the staircase leading to the top floor and gulped. The door to the top floor was not locked. Xie Yu looked out quietly from behind him. “Boss, it’s this place.”

The voice-controlled lights of the stairs were very sensitive. Yan Qiu originally wanted to bring out his terminal and turn on the flashlight, but once he climbed up the stairs, he saw that the toilet at the end of the corridor was already lit up.

“…” Yan Qiu could not help but cast a glance at Xie Yu. “And you actually had the guts to go to the toilet here?”

The situation of the lights lightning up by themselves was even scarier than groping around in the dark.

But since they were already here, Yan Qiu still forced himself to bring Xie Yu over to take a look.

It was now just half past seven. He refused to believe that there were really ghosts.

When they were near the entrance of the toilet, Xie Yu suddenly screamed and tugged Yan Qiu’s sleeve. “Boss, look!”

Yan Qiu thought that it was something terrifying, but when he took a look, he only saw a trash can. It was empty save for a plastic bag.

He immediately saw a few words written on the plastic bag—Chen Bin.

It was the principal’s name.

Yan Qiu said hesitantly, “Is that… your takeout?”

“It’s my takeout!” Xie Yu looked excited! He remembered the pain of going hungry, and right then, he was not even scared of ghosts anymore. He was going to catch the person who stole his takeout!

‘Alright, so there’s no ghosts at the top floor of the center school building! But there’s a bastard who stole my takeout!’

“The cigarette butt on the floor is fresh. The ‘thief’ should still be nearby,” Yan Sherlock Holmes Qiu analyzed the situation and said.

At that moment, flushing sounds suddenly appeared from the toilet. Yan Qiu and Xie Yu looked at each other before they immediately hid in the dark and held their breaths.

Since they were finally going to catch the thief who kept stealing his takeout, Xie Yu was so excited that his hands trembled. He quietly planned how he was going to stuff the thief in a gunny sack and teach him a lesson.

“Hey, it’s me.” The sound of someone washing their hands came from the toilet. The person inside seemed to be making a phone call, and the voice was very familiar as well.

He would never mistake that voice. It belonged to Mr. Yang.

Yan Qiu widened his eyes and looked around. He saw Mr. Yang making a call while he was washing his hands.

“…Yeah. The meeting tonight dragged on until it was half past five. There’s no more food in the cafeteria in the school… Ah, don’t need. I’ve already eaten. I saw another naughty student using the principal’s name to order takeout again, and the food was delivered to the guardhouse, so I took it and ate it as a lesson for them.”

Yan Qiu and Xie Yu looked at each other dumbfounded in the dark.

They originally wanted to teach a lesson to the person who stole the takeout, but now, they would be lucky if they were not taught a lesson by Mr. Yang.

After Mr. Yang finished washing his hands, he strode over. In a moment of desperation, Yan Qiu and Xie Yu hid in the room next to the toilet.

The room was less than one square meter, and it was narrow and cramped. When they were forced to stick close to each other, and they held their breaths so that Mr. Yang would not discover them.

Three minutes later, when they sensed that there was no longer any sound outside, Yan Qiu sighed in relief. He thought that Mr. Yang had already left into the distance, so he ran out of the room.

They were just about to run away when someone grabbed their shirt collars from behind them.

Mr. Yang’s expression was cold. When he caught students who dated, he was one hundred times even more terrifying than ghosts.

“Why are you two sneaking around here at night? Come with me to the student affairs office!”

This night, Ji Xinglan retrieved Yan Qiu from the student affairs office at the end.

Once they walked out of the student affairs office, Ji Xinglan immediately grabbed Yan Qiu’s hand and asked while they were walking together, “Mr. Yang said that he caught you cheating together with Xie Yu at the top floor of the center school building. What’s going on?”

Ji Xinglan would naturally not distrust Yan Qiu. He was just puzzled as to why they ran around in the dark and were captured by Mr. Yang. “Why did you go over there with him?”

“…Xie Yu said that there’s a ghost up there.”

Yan Qiu hung his head in dejection and could only tell Ji Xinglan the truth about them going out to capture ghosts.

“We didn’t see any ghosts when we went upstairs. Instead, we saw Xie Yu’s stolen takeout. We thought that we were going to find the person who stole his takeout and wanted to teach him a lesson, but it turned out to be Mr. Yang. In our desperation, we went to hide by the side, and when we came out, we were careless, and he caught us.”

Yan Qiu was worried that Ji Xinglan would blame him, so he added, “Mr. Yang ate Xie Yu’s takeout and even suspected that we were cheating. It’s not my fault.”

Ji Xinglan would definitely not blame him. He was just worried about him running around. Once he finished listening to him, he laughed. His laughter was hearty, and Yan Qiu’s cheeks felt a little warm.

Ji Xinglan casually placed an arm around his shoulder, drew his face closer, and kissed his cheek. “Silly.”

Yan Qiu turned his head to the side, and he was just in time to see Ji Xinglan’s eyes sparkling under the moonlight. He slapped his hand away in embarrassment. “Who are you calling silly?”

Ji Xinglan kissed him and without any backbone whatsoever, changed his wording, “I was talking about Xie Yu.”
