The spring breeze scattered cherry blossoms, dotting the skies with pink petals as people passed by. It’s as if nature itself celebrated the new beginnings of freshmen who just got into high school.

Kiryuugaoka Private School is a prestigious institution that boasts one of the highest deviation scores in the prefecture. It’s also responsible for sending countless outstanding students out to the world every year.

This traditional stone path to the school wasn’t empty, even though Tatsumi was quite early. Albeit somewhat far from when the entrance ceremony would happen, many students were already treading their way to school.

Some were gleeful with anticipation, imagining what their new school life would be like. Others were anxious, holding stiff expressions on their faces. Meanwhile, other students were just happy to see their friends again.

Tatsumi even saw quite a few extroverts calling out to random people, just so they could make new friends.

While they were all excited in their own ways, hoping this new phase in life would be great for them—

“Ugh, so dull…”

—A guy’s sigh was so deep it ruined that sunny atmosphere: it was Tatsumi Aizawa. He had pitch-black hair that reached his shoulders and sharp cold eyes. His surprisingly toned body could be seen through the uniform.

Tatsumi was conventionally attractive, but such features were all overshadowed by his unapologetic languor. None of the students around him wanted to get close, and they all just looked from afar, trying their hardest not to get involved.

… What’s the point in being so early, anyway?

To be honest, I’d like to go to school more leisurely. Actually, I don’t even wanna go, but my sister insisted on me doing so. If I’d failed in doing that, I could only wonder what she’d say to me later.

She started talking to me again after my decision to enroll in the same school as her, though our main way of communicating is through messaging…

During junior high, we hardly talked at all, and on the rare occasions we did, it was only about administrative matters. That’s why I have no clue what she thinks about me.

I mean, she hates me…

Though I don’t think much about it. There are many siblings out there with strained relationships. It’d be difficult to deal with them if they all suddenly did a 180 on their attitudes.

As I kept thinking, I noticed some noise coming from the entrance. Looking in that direction, I saw a girl standing in front of the school gates, while new students whispered among themselves.

“Wow, she’s so beautiful. Is she waiting for someone?”

“Gorgeous hair… Oh, that green ribbon means she’s a sophomore, right?”

“… I’ll go talk to her.”

From one of the student groups, an extrovert tried to approach that girl so he could woo her. His dyed golden hair and Casanova attitude made it seem like he just played around. Looking from the outside, it seemed like he was one of those flirts that flocked to the nearest girl.

Then, that boy changed his expression, smiling like a salesman, and called out to her with a raised arm and fresh tone.

“Good morning, are you free senpai? I was wondering if you could show me around the school—”

“Ah, Tatsumi!”

Oh, you’ll show me around?

She noticed my presence, passing by the other guys and walking in my direction. The guy that raised his hand froze in place, and his smile was slightly crooked.

Oof…

Passerby, even staff members of the school, who were watching the scene poured their gaze on the boy with overwhelming pity. Some even tried not to laugh.

“You’re finally here… Hey, I told you to come early, didn’t I? We have less than half an hour before it all starts.”

She stood in front of me with folded arms and a disgruntled look on her face, all while ignoring that other dude. Beautiful and long onyx hair, slightly slanted eyes; her pouty face only added edge to her beauty.

Although, she was quite similar to the boy in front of her — That was the collective thought of people passing by.

As they (surely) thought that, she kept asking me stuff like if I’d overslept, or if I’d gotten lost. To be honest, I came here in a hurry, so aren’t you overreacting a bit? — I swallow these words.

I noticed her cheeks were a tad red from the cold morning breeze, as if she’s been waiting for a long time. This made me feel sorry for making her wait, so I’ll just be honest about it and apologize.

“Sorry for the delay, big sis Shuri…”
