Chapter 57: v3c14

After seeing Wendy off at the main gate, Almark turns to leave and notices a familiar guard.

"Mr. Zied."

"Hello, Almark."

It was Ziad, the guard who had taken care of him in so many ways when he first came to this academy .

　He was one of the few people who knew that Almark was the son of a northern mercenary.

　 But Almark did not know how many teachers, know about it .

"Is it Wendy who just left? I think that's the last time we are going to elementary grade."

"Oh, today is the hardest day of the year for us guards. "

　Oh my."

The guards at the front gate seemed to be in a hurry because of the many visitors entering the academy.

“Everyone went home looking happy,"

After saying this, Ziad remembered Almark's origins.

“I see. I guess you won't be able to go home."”

“Yes, that's right."

He was ready for it from the moment he arrived at the academy. After a year and a half of solo traveling, he had arrived. After only a few months, he had no desire to return home to see his father

　

Almark suddenly remembered Leila walking alone in the garden in the early morning with a grim look on her face.

Leila had not expressed any joy at the thought of returning to her home .

Even Torque, although he did not told it with his own words, was still carrying some sense of freedom in his voice.

　However, what Almark felt from Leila's back this morning was only a sense of duty.

There was not the slightest hint of the usual cool air.

　(I wonder if Leila has no real place to go back to.)

　Thinking about this, Almark said to Ziad.

“It was Leila who left first, wasn't she?"

"Leila?"

　Ziad thought for a moment and nodded .

'Yes, it was Leila who was the first to leave today."

　Almark was a little caught off guard by the way Ziad said that.

"Then there are kids who left yesterday?"

　There were still classes yesterday.

　Ziad nodded quickly.

“Wallis went home yesterday .”

“Wallis?"

Ziad's words reminded Almark of the fireworks the garden last night.

It was Wallis.

"By himself?

" Wallis is leaving by himself every year. I don't know why. Maybe he has someone waiting for him in the harbor, like Leila."

"I see."

(Wallis also seems to have a complicated situation . )

“Now that I think about it, Wallis is a similar to you.”

"Huh ?"

“Wallis traveled alone when he came here . From the west end of the Garai.”

"What?"

　"He was just nine years old when he started studying here "

　It was right around the time when Almark first went to the battlefield.

　The kingdom of Garai is certainly far safer than the northern lands, but Almark had never know a child of that age traveling alone, except for himself.

“Wallis is the son of a nobleman, isn't he? How come he had to come alone,?"

　Ziad twisted his head,

"I don't know the details, but come to think of it, I've never seen anyone from Wallis' family come to pick him up either. I'm sure there must be a reason for it, though."

"I see. ......"

　(Everyone have their own reasons. )

The only thing he wanted to was to find out why he was so hostile to him.

As a result, the mystery only got deeper.

"How are you doing, by the way? Have you gotten used to life at academy? "

Almark changed his attitude and smiled at Ziad's question.

"Yes, thank you , I'm completely adjusted to life at the academy".

　"I can't use magic , though."

Ziad looked at Almark's face closely.

'It seems so. Compared to when we first met, you look like a completely different ."

　Almark nodded his head with a calm expression.
