Early in the morning, Eden was up for work. She had to deliver milk and also the morning newspaper before going to school. Every weekend Eden would receive her wages.
Eden took the uniform from the wardrobe and hurriedly put it on.
"Ugh!" Eden sighed in pain. Her arm and shoulder were bruised from Marvel's blow last night.
"It hurts so much, when will he stop torturing me?" Eden applied anti-bruising ointment.
After struggling with her bruises, Eden put on her uniform and quickly went outside. Vica still lay down on the couch; she was sleeping because of alcohol. Marvel was not seen at home. Eden grabbed her bike out and paddled to the road.
Eden pedaled her bicycle until she arrived in front of a grocery store.
"Good morning!" Greeting Eden excited as usual.
"Morning, Eden. I've been waiting for you." Aunt Hanun gave five boxes containing bottles of warm milk ready to be sent.
"I will work hard, Aunt!" Eden clenched her fists and smiled excitedly. Time to start the day full of sweat. Eden tied the box at the back seat so the bottle didn't fall when she hurried.
"Auntie knows! Here's the list."
"Any new customer?" Eden asked when she saw an address that Eden had never known before.
"Yup, new customer." Hanun gave a bottle of warm milk to Eden. "Drink; your stomach has been rumbling."
"…" Eden was silent considering whether she would accept it or not. Actually, Eden was allergic to lactose, but her stomach was starving.
"No, Thank, Aunt. I'm leaving first." Eden refused the warm milk and started to bike.
"Huh... what a poor girl. I wonder why she can always be happy, although her family is broken." Hanun sighed long.
.
.
.
one by one, Eden placed the bottle in front of the door house. Eden's hand was throbbing, it hurt so bad. Marvel's puncture marks made her have to work much extra when lifting the box filled with milk.
"Finally the last customer." After almost an hour of walking around the housing complex, Eden arrived at the final address. Aunt Hanun's new customer.
When Eden was about to put the milk bottle at the front door of the house, at that moment the door opened. A young man wearing the same uniform as Eden came out from inside.
Eden was surprised; it turns out that her new customer was the idol of the entire school community, the captain of the basketball team, "Ace?"
"Eden?" Ace was just as surprised.
"Ee… You know my name?" Eden was taken aback. She thought Ace didn't recognize her. Wasn't Eden famous among school students?! Not like Bianca and her gang.
"Eum… is that a strange thing?" asked Ace.
"No, no… of course not. I just… ah… forget it. Thank you for buying milk from our store; enjoy." Eden felt awkward, again she couldn't talk anything to Ace.
"Thanks." Ace took his milk bottle.
"I have to go, I have other work to do." Eden hastened to say goodbye.
"Ah… yes," Eden replied, her face heating up. Even though it was only the word goodbye, but it immediately succeeded in making Eden's heart jump.
Eden bit her lip as she turned away. Oh... the girl still wanted to chat with Ace, but was too scared to start. Eden felt annoyed with herself for being too inferior. sHe should have gotten much closer to Ace, but her low self-esteem got in the way.
[Come on, Eden. Say something, don't just leave.] Eden thought.
A few steps later, Eden turned her body back. Ace also seemed to be waiting for the girl to say something. The proof was he was still at the door.
"I'm sorry, I just washed the towels this morning. I will return it tomorrow."
"Okay. Are you going to school already?!" Ace wears shoes, he also wants to go to school.
"Yeah, but I have to deliver the newspapers first." Eden was a little insecure; her poverty made Eden have to work hard first instead of going to school calmly like other children at her age.
"I can help you, let's go together." Ace smiled and stepped ahead of Eden to take the folding bike.
Eden froze, what just happened? Did Ace ask her to go together? Was it a Dream?
"Ouch!! How sick! Not a dream!!" Eden pinched her own cheek.
"Come on, E!" Ace called her with a nickname, Eden blushed even more.
Ace helped Eden throw the newspaper into the customers' yards. Along the way to school, Eden pedaled a bicycle parallel to Ace. she was so happy; she had never been this happy in her life before.
Eden looked at Ace, golden brown hair with an undercut, handsome face, two bright blue eyes, and thin red lips. Ace was also fairly tall and had an athletic body because he was a basketball team member.
[Oh gosh, he is so cool. can I touch that handsome face?] Eden was too obsessed with him in her mind.
"Is there something in my face? Why are you looking at me so intensely?" Ace looked at Eden while pedaling; his sweet smile made Eden shy.
"No... nothing." Eden pedaled her bike faster; she was too shy to answer Ace's question. Ace caught her admiring his handsome face.
[What a cute girl.] Ace shook his head; Eden's nature was too adorable for him.
"Hey, wait!" Ace followed Eden.
They arrived at school and parked the bike. When Eden stepped inside the gate. Eden was horrified when she saw a lot of her pictures stuck everywhere. Eden was caught selling the isotonic water at the inter hight school basketball game yesterday. She was wearing a sexy outfit while circling the arena to sell it.
Eden was stunned; everybody must mock her. Poverty was a disgrace in that elite school. Eden almost cried. She didn't bother anyone; she only needed money to live. Why did they use it to bully Eden?
