Chapter 28: 28. Sean And Saoirse

Ariana glanced at her wrist watch impatiently while Nate leaned against his car and took out a cigarette. "Will he come or not?" She asked him. They were standing in front of the house of the girl who had invited them.

"He'll definitely come." answered Nate as he leaned his head sideways to lit the cigarette in his mouth with the lighter in his hand.

"I have to talk to him." said Ariana as she folded her arms and paced back and forth.

Nate hummed in response. His wolf sensed someone approaching them and informed him.

"Hi." He heard Ariana say.

"My lady, My lord." It was the girl who had invited them.

"No need for such formality." Ariana reminded her again. As she did that, she wondered whether she still was to be addressed such highly or not. She was sent to the human world as her punishment. Was she stripped off her title too? What excuse must have the Alpha and Luna made for her absence? Was she hated by the Kingdom for trying to claim "Persephone's mate" or had the fiasco been kept a secret? It surely couldn't be that as thousands of people were present there when she had made a giant fool of herself for him.

Earlier, she didn't think of any of these matters as she was immersed in her pain and didn't want to be reminded of anything related to her past or the supernatural world. However, she was gradually being brought back to reality. A reality she couldn't escape.

"Ahem." The girl fake coughed bringing her back from her thoughts.

"I was wondering of you two would like to go for a run with us?" she asked.

"I'll wait for Sean. You go." answered Nate.

Ariana hesitated before giving in. "Okay."

"By the way, what's your name?" Nate heard Ariana ask as they started walking away from him.

"P....ni." The girl said something like that. He wasn't able to hear her muffled voice properly. However, he froze. Could it be that name?

"What?" He shouted making them stop and turn back.

When they didn't answer, he clarified. "Your name?"

"Penny." The girl muttered with a confused look on her face.

He sighed in relief.

"Why? Did you hear some other name?" He saw Ariana ask with an amused look on her face.

"I heard ...vier." He answered muffling his voice on purpose at the last part.

"What?" asked the girl. "I didn't catch it."

"I said I heard Savior." There was a smirk on his face.

Ariana narrowed her eyes at him and turned around dramatically. She started walking away from them.

"Wait for me." Penny tried to catch up. When she did, she linked her arm with Ariana's and whispered with a frown. "Penny doesn't even sound similar to Savior."

Ariana looked at her with the corner of her eyes. "You're right. It doesn't. That guy is crazy."

Penny chuckled.

This time Nate had activated his werewolf hearing and heard what Ariana had said. He smiled.

He had always known Ariana as his best friend's little sister who is kind of an introvert and spends most of her time inside her room. After that, he had labelled her as a weak outcast with a victim complex just to make himself feel at least he was doing better than her.

Now, he knew Ariana for what she was and not just some perception of her. And he wished what his "mate" had said was true. He wished that she wasn't his mate at all. He thought that the Moon Goddess had mistakenly interchanged the Bennet sisters while making two couples.

Sean checked his phone again for the location. He wasn't certain whether he had arrived at the right place or not. Relief washed over him when he saw Nate standing in front of a house. He parked his car and got out of it. As he was walking towards his friend, his mind wandered back to what he had been thinking while driving.

"As my best friend, you'll have to help me kill someone." He informed Nate.

Nate straightened his posture while chuckling and shaking his head. "Why don't you hire a sniper with all the money your daddy makes from healing us werewolves?"

"I'm afraid the money he makes by being a veterinarian won't be sufficient to execute my big plan."

Nate's wolf growled internally.

"And also I'm not sure whether that person could be killed by a bullet or not."

"Yeah? Who are you planning to kill?"

"Ariana's mate." answered Sean with a straight face.

Nate was stunned for a while before he snorted with laughter. "Oh buddy! That person can't be killed even if you bring a whole army. And for your information, Ariana will probably die too if something happens to him."

"What the fuck do I then?" Sean groaned.

"Nothing."

"Nothing? And lose her? Are you siding with that werewolf guy?" Sean yelled.

"Trust me. I'd kill that werewolf guy with my bare hands if I could. But in your case, that isn't necessary."

Nate turned towards him. "Remember what I told you about Ariana's ex?"

Realization hit him. Ariana's ex Xavier was her mate who had chosen her sister over her.

"Whoa! I had read that mates mean everything to each other. So this mate thing is nothing but a scam?" asked Sean.

Nate sighed. "It is very real. I was just the unlucky one. Ariana too."

Sean nodded in silence.

"You werewolves don't like to party or what? Where are all the people?" asked Sean.

Nate roamed his eyes around to find only ten people enjoying their drink. He sniffed the air and found six of them were humans. "Werewolves like to run. They must have gone for a run." He muttered.

"Where? I want to see."

Nate approached one guy who bowed his head to him. "Where have they gone?"

"For a run in the forest backside, my lord."

Sean started walking towards the back door while Nate was busy making a drink for himself. As he opened the door, he walked inside the forest. He was excited as well as nervous. Nevertheless, he set out to see a werewolf after all he had to learn about it and operate on it someday.

He walked further too see a clearing which led to a lake. Finally, he got to see what he had been searching for. A werewolf was drinking water from the lake. He hid behind a tree and started to scrutinize it. Its white fur seemed to be glowing even in the darkness.

Clouds cleared and the moonlight hit the earth surface. Everything could be seen a bit more clear. The werewolf had turned around and was looking at him. Sean couldn't understand why he had a sudden urge to lower his eyes as well as his head. He gave into his urges.

However, he lifted his gaze to see the werewolf walking towards him. All of a sudden, a small butterfly flied over and rested on its snout. The werewolf became agitated immediately and started shaking its head. Sean couldn't help but laugh a little.

Seemed like the werewolf finally had it and it let out out a growl silencing Sean and making the butterfly fly away. Sean's heart started beating rapidly when he heard the growl and he started to get scared when he saw the werewolf run towards him.

When the werewolf jumped right in front of him, he lost his balance and fell on his back. The werewolf tilted his head and frowned. It started wagging its tail as if to let him know that it meant no harm.

Sean had a dog during his childhood. So when he saw the werewolf wagging its tail, he relaxed. He lifted his hand to pet it. The werewolf didn't seem to like it as it ran away.

Sean saw it run behind the trees and not long after, a silhouette emerged. He squinted his eyes for a better vision. "Ariana?" He whispered in shock.

Ariana let out her hand for him. Sean took it and got up. "Was it you?"

"That was Saoirse." answered Ariana nonchalantly.

"Oh..." said Sean as he was staring at her face. Moonlight seemed to highlight features of her face. "Beautiful..." He whispered, mesmerized.

"Huh?"

"I mean she's beautiful. I hadn't seen a white wolf before. The ones at the zoo are usually brownish....Oh my god, that came out so wrong. I'm not trying to compare you to an animal. I'm so sorry -"

"- You're not wrong. I'm part wolf."

Sean seemed to relax at her response.

"And yes. Wolves are usually brown and grey. But we werewolves are either white or black or mix. Darker or whiter the wolf, higher its rank. Mixed werewolves are commoners."

"Oh..." He knew that already.

"And Saoirse thanks you. It's the first time someone complimented her." Ariana smiled.

"She deserves more." Sean shrugged his shoulder.

"Stop it. She's your number one fan already." Ariana laughed.

A huge smile formed on Sean's face hearing that. He had read that werewolves listened to their counterparts. If he was able to impress Saoirse, he would be able to win Ariana too.

When Ariana and Sean returned to the party, they were puzzled to find all the arrangements gone and people were wearing their coats to leave too. Ariana spotted Penny and stopped her. "What's happening?"

"We had to end the party as we couldn't celebrate after hearing the news." Penny sighed deeply.

"What news?"

"The King and the Queen have annulled their marriage."
