70 - The Old Man From The Countryside Reports The Results

“Hey. I’ve been waiting for you.”

“Hmm? Is that you, Lucy?” I asked.

It was the next morning.

I was busy yesterday, but that doesn’t mean that my duties will be lightened, so I went to the Knights HQ again to instruct.

At the entrance, there was a shadow waiting with her arms crossed. Needless to say, it was Lucy Diamond, the Head Magus of the Magic Division. She’s still so tiny.

“Did you I make you wait? My bad,” I said.

“I don’t mind,” Lucy said. “I did ask you to do something so reckless.”

So she was waiting for me. It’s rough to get ambushed so early in the morning.

I thought it would be better to report to Lucy, but I was kind of confused about heading to her house, so it works out that she was waiting for me here. I’ve got a lot to report.

“Is now a good time?” Lucy asked.

“It’s fine, but I also have my job.”

Apart from that, the invitation from her isn’t bad, but as long as I’m a Special Instructor, I have my daily duties. Last time it was good because she approached me when the sun was setting, but now it’s first thing in the morning. It was training time from here on out.

It was fine to go to Lucy’s house, but then I need to tell someone that I can’t instruct today. I don’t want them to think I’m skipping out on work.

“I’ve told Alexia,” Lucy said. “There’s no problem.”

“Oh, I see… smart,” I said.

However, it seems that my worries were for nothing after Lucy said she had already talked with Alexia.

It’s not bad, but Lucy is a woman of immediate action when she needs something. The time between thinking of it then putting it to action is extremely fast. This kind of daring is something I want to learn somehow. I’m not sure where to emulate it, though.

“Once again, I’ve put you through a rough time,” Lucy said. “I’ve heard the gist from Alexia.”

“Yeah, well, it was hard for me,” I said.

Instead of entering the Knights HQ, we talked while walking toward Lucy’s house.

Speaking of which, the Knights’ HQ, the building of the Magic Division, and Lucy’s house have magical equipment that allows long-range communication. It is good that information is transmitted so quickly.

“Well, I’ll hear the details later,” Lucy said. “Ibroix hasn’t arrived yet.”

“Oh, we do need him, don’t we?” I said.

Apparently, the faces to gather are the same as yesterday.

That said, Lucy acted as an intermediary, but formally speaking, it was Ibroix who asked me. For that matter, it is also a secret request from the Suphine Faith. That the client wasn’t around was a little strange.

“By the way, is Miu doing well?”

Along the way, I felt a little concerned, so I turned to the topic of talking to the young kid staying as a guest at Lucy’s house.

“She’s fine,” Lucy said. “And she’s quiet. Maybe she doesn’t know what to do in the future.”

“I see,” I said.

It was the basic “she’s doing alright” response. Well, let’s just say that it was good to hear that.

Besides, I don’t understand Miu’s feelings. It’s little wonder this happened, she’s suddenly forced to change the world she lived in and she doesn’t know how to live in this new one. It’s even more so because she had been in the criminal underbelly so far.

However, as I thought yesterday, I think that time will heal this wound to some extent.

Sure, life changes a lot, but unlike me and Lucy, Miu hasn’t spent most of her life in that darkness. She still has a lot of time left for a bright future.

All you have to do is wait patiently for her to adapt to the world as it is now. Watching a child grow up is the privilege of adults. I have no children, though.

“Well, there is no choice but to wait for time to heal it,” I said.

“I agree, Miu is still young,” Lucy said.

If she had the same idea, my worries are put to rest.

With this topic, Lucy feels more in line with my values and ideas than Alexia and Selena. Is it because we’re close in age? I don’t really want to think that, since Lucy looks younger than Miu but is older than me.

“Oh, by the way,” I said.

“Hmm?” Lucy asked.

It’s going to take a little longer to get to Lucy’s house, so I’ll ask her something that’s been bothering me.

“Was Thyssel your insurance?” I asked.

“… Come again? What are you talking about?” Lucy asked.

Ah, this girl is playing dumb.

However, her expression seemed to be grinning slightly. I still don’t get this woman. Even so, it seems that she wants to draw a line around the area so she won’t say, even if I pressure her.

In that case, I have nothing more to say.

It just so happened that Thyssel and Kuruni came. That’s the right thing to say.

“Lucy, Mr. Beryl. Good morning.”

“Hey, Ibroix,” Lucy said. “My apologies, did I make you wait again?”

“No, I just arrived,” Ibroix said. “Unlike yesterday.”

We arrived at Lucy’s house after some rambling exchanges.

Unlike yesterday, Ibroix is waiting in front of the gate. As he said, he really had just arrived.

I just met him yesterday and I didn’t have a friendship with him, but as far as I could tell yesterday, he felt like he was waiting at the house without hesitation.

“Good day,” I said, bowing.

“Mr. Beryl, I haven’t seen you since yesterday,” Ibroix said. “Let’s discuss our business later.”

Apparently, Ibroix hadn’t been told the details of the matter yet. Well, it’s what happened last night and it’s first thing in the morning.

“Well, let’s not talk standing up,” Lucy said. “Come in.”

“Happy to oblige,” Ibroix replied as he opened the doors.

“Miss Lucy. And also Mr. Ibroix and Mr. Beryl. Good morning,” Halwi said, waiting just inside like yesterday.

“Ah, Ms. Halwi,” Ibroix said. “Pardon us, we’re coming in.”

I pride myself on getting up quite early, but I wonder when these people are getting up themselves. Ms. Halwi is a housekeeper, so it’s not unnatural for her to get up early.

It’s no wonder Lucy had a pretty strange rhythm in her life. No, this is completely my imagination.

“Now then… for the moment, let’s discuss the difficulty you faced yesterday, Mr. Beryl.”

We entered the same drawing-room as yesterday, and after we sat down on their chairs, Ibroix began speaking.

He shouldn’t know the details, but apparently, he doesn’t think I’ve failed his request. I didn’t mean to do that, either.

“Thank you for your concern,” I said. “Well, it was a bit difficult.”

“Hahaha,” Ibroix chuckled. “As I said yesterday, I’m grateful. So… how was it, how did it end?”

Yeah, it was really was difficult, though moderately so.

Well, I can’t help but report that hardship to Ibroix. He was the one who made the request.

“In conclusion, Bishop Lebios was successfully arrested,” I said. “He’s now being detained in the basement of the Knights of Rebelio.”

“I see, that’s for the best,” Ibroix said.

After receiving my report, I can understand Priest Ibroix’s relief.

Even for him, it would have been difficult to overlook the illegal actions of the Lebios faction, which can be regarded as a disturbing element.

“It’s as I said, Ibroix,” Lucy said.

“Right,” Ibroix said. “I’m glad I turned to you, Mr. Beryl.”

“No, no, that’s too much,” I said.

I hesitate to accept the compliments. I did the work, but I don’t think it’s so awe-inspiring. Yeah, you could even say it was an uphill battle.

All that being said, eventually, Bishop Lebios will be punished accordingly. I wouldn’t know how it would happen, though.

“Thank you for succeeding with my request,” Ibroix said. “I’m certain my standing will rise.”

“Ha, hahaha…” I chuckled nervously.

If the Bishop is arrested, there is no choice but to promote a new one. Does that mean that Ibroix is one of the leading candidates?

This person is an old man who I’ve been wondering about since I first saw him, but I can’t figure him out. How much speculation and plotting is hidden underneath?

Well, if it doesn’t hurt me directly, I feel like I’ll let him be.

“And when I caught him, he probably used a miracle,” I said. “What came out from that were… like manipulated corpses…”

“… I see,” Ibroix said. “I was skeptical, but apparently it’s been confirmed.”

Arguably, the miracle of the resurrection of the dead Lebios was studying was a failure. I have no intention of denying magical research as a whole, but my reaction to such inhumane things is still severe.

“Hmph. Well, the country will be the judge of that,” Lucy said.

And in the end, when it comes to such a topic, Lucy’s reaction comes out pained. I wonder if she’s got plenty of opinions about the resurrection of the dead.

“Oh, right. Not incidentally, but I was thinking about showing my gratitude to you, Berly,” Lucy said.

“Yes?”

Did she hate the topic or did she just come up with that?

Lucy’s voice and expression became brighter as she started talking about rewards.

Yeah, well, I’m not afraid to get what I can get. However, I don’t intend to get extra money, and since I live in an inn, I don’t want to get goods.

“Beryl, do you need a house?” Lucy asked.

“Huh?”
