I put my hand on the boy's mouth to stop him from crying. Now, you can only hear the child's soft sobs as we wait for the guards to blast in. I take my hand from his mouth when I'm sure nobody will come. "Hey, little man," I turn him around and hold him in front of me, "I'm not going to hurt you. Can you tell me your name?"
He shakes his head. A few tears roll down his cheeks, but he isn't crying anymore. "What are you doing here?" He shakes his head again. "You don't want to talk to me?" This time he nods.
"Maybe he wants to me." A prisoner suggests. He's an Elf with scarred arms and only one eye. Of course, you shouldn't judge someone by their appearance, but there's no way I'll give him the child.
I ask him if he wants to stay with me; fortunately, he nods. "Looks like he wants to stay with me."
But the Elf stays persistent, "No, give him to me. He'll be fine."
"Isn't it a good time to leave now? There're no guards outside." Tom offers from the side.
"Actually, we should wait." I retort him.
"No way!" You can't tell me what to do!" "Disgusting human, let me taste you!" I get the reaction I wanted, and Tom's confused look changes to appalled.
One after one, they leave the door until only Tom, Oliver, the Dwarf and I remain. We wait some time to give them a head start, then follow them. Behind the gate is a big room, probably for the guards. The beds and tables are thrown left and right.
We cross the room quickly and step into another staircase, where we encounter two dead guards. They got beaten up pretty hard, and one of them even has bite marks on his face. These people are savages; I really hope they don't escape.
It took us a long time to climb up, and our surroundings changed when we exited another guard's room. The walls are wood with paintings carved into them, which means we've entered the palace. It's beautiful if you ignore the dead bodies of the guards and criminals.
"Savages!" I hear Oliver from the side; he's not wrong. There're bite marks on almost every dead body. I step carefully over and move along the corridor. The kid is still quietly napping on my chest. It's good he doesn't see any of this.
"Where to now?" I ask my two-and-a-half companions.
"We should follow the criminals." Tom proposes.
"No, I don't think that's a good idea." Oliver retorts. "They'll gather all their forces to catch us, so it would be smarter to put some distance between us."
I still don't understand why he's with us, but I agree. So at junctions, we turn away from the blood. I would love to stay here for a bit and explore the palace. Palace? I'm inside the palace. I stop and turn to Tom. "Where does the Princess life?"
"The Princess?" He asks, confused. "What do you need from... oh no, no, no! Don't even think about it."
"She has a room with a garden upstairs." We both turn to the voice and look at a nose-picking Oliver.
"Do you know the way?"
"Yes."
We found the stairs a couple of minutes later and are running up. But on the way, I realize yet another strange thing. Why there are so few guards in a Royal palace doesn't make sense, so I ask Tom.
"Are you stupid?" Oliver sneers. "They can't have guards inside their home."
If you have guards inside your home, it's a sign of weakness which is
common knowledge in this world.
I sprint through the corridor until I arrive at Mia's room. I open the door to an ample space; to the right is a bed for five people, and an oversized desk and bookshelves to the left. However, nowhere is Mia to see, so I walk to the other side into a vast garden.
It has a lot of different flowers and bushes in multiple colors. But before I can appreciate it more, a fist slams into my stomach. Almost instantly, I jump back before a second punch hits me. The small Dwarfen kid finally wakes up, but luckily the punch missed him.
I lower him to the ground and shoo him back to the room, but the boy refuses to leave my side. Instead, he sticks to my leg. Then, I see one of the two guards move in the corner of my eye. But he didn't reach me as Tom came to my saving. Oliver follows behind, he doesn't look like he's going to join, so I leave the kid behind and sprint to help.

Since the stupid auction, the stupid Goblin uses the investigation against Finn to visit me every day. The last time he tried something, his hand slowly crept up my thigh until I hit him in his face so hard I almost broke my hand. The creepy part was he enjoyed it as he smiled at me with a bloody nose and a bulge in his pants. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.
I wished somebody to visit and talk to me, but that's not what I meant.
Instead, I feel helpless more than ever and want to talk to anybody except that pervert Goblin.
Lying down on the bench, I clench my hand to the sky. My mind like so many times before jumping back to the day of the auction. I still can't understand why Finn asked about my father and where he tried to take me. I'm not against it; I would do anything to get out of here. Honestly, I blame myself for his capture. But at the same time, he was the one looking for me, so how is it my fault.
I bite my nails to calm myself, but my thoughts return to my only chance to live a free life and how it slipped past me until some noise brought me back to reality.
I march back to my room, evading past my flowers; the blossoms curled in themselves. It's going to storm today, I think to myself, looking up at the sky.
Even before I reached my room, I could see the two guards, the three other men, and a child. Now that I'm closer, I recognize one of them: Finn. Is he here for me? My heart starts beating faster and faster.
I watch from afar how Finn and the man beat up my wardens; the best part is they win. Finn dodges every attack without a problem, thus giving his companion a chance to counter.
I glimpse over to my room, where the third member of their group protects the kid. I considered joining them for a second to help, but I only would be a hindrance. I never thought in my life.
Suddenly, pressure spreads through the garden, and I see Finn struggling to stand while I drop to the ground. There's no way he can fight in such a condition. Ah, so close. I should stop dreaming of a free life.
-----------------------------------------
I open my eyes, and my body shakes but not because of anxiety. Yet again, I'm being carried on a shoulder. I peek to the right, and there on the other shoulder is Finn hanging. He's asleep or unconscious; either way, his eyes are closed, but I can see them move. I'm confused. I thought he carried me but turning my head up solves the mystery as the other fighter's face comes into view.
The last time I saw him, he wore old brown pants and a black t-shirt. A month later, his pants are shredded, and the t-shirt is gone. My eyes wander to his bare arm, and I'm shocked at what I see. It looks like someone peeled off his skin, and he has hundreds of cuts all over his upper body.
We're currently running next to a big mansion, so we still didn't leave the noble district. In front of us is racing the man with the child on his back. A few raindrops fall on me while I ask the man, "Where are we going?"
"Oh, you're awake. For now, just as far away from the palace as possible."
"I see." Doesn't sound like he has a plan. "Why don't we run to the other districts? It should be easier to hide there."
"Look over. Are you sure you want to go there?" At first, I didn't understand what he meant, but one look to the left across the river explained it. The smoke is everywhere, all over the city; how immense must the fire be for this.
"What is going on?" But he doesn't answer me, only mutters, "Damn Idiots, if they can't explain, I will kick their asses."
Around half an hour later, he slows down, sets Finn and me on the ground, and walks away. A couple minutes later, he returns, and all of us follow him to the water. Where he drags a small boat out of the undergrowth.
"Truthfully," He suddenly exclaimed. "I didn't plan to have so much company, so it will be a tight ride. And you look like you have questions." He nods at me.
"I-yes... First, thank you for taking me with you. But who're you guys?"
"That's harder to explain than you think, Princess. " He smiles at me. "I'm Tom, and I'm here to rescue Finn. On the way, we kind of pick these guys up." He points to the other two. "This is Oliver, and the name of the Dwarf I don't know."
"Nice to meet you, Princess." Oliver grinned at me while picking his nose.
"Nice to meet you too. Dwarf? Where did you find him?" It can't be; uncle wouldn't do something foolish like this, would he?
"In the dungeon," Oliver answers me casually. "Now, are we leaving or what?"
From my side, I hear another voice. "We don't know each other. I'm here to rescue you. He's here to save me, and things got out of control. No. Honestly, I never was in control of anything. It doesn't matter now." He sounds so tired.
I have so many questions, but they have to wait. "We'll have enough time later. Let's get out of here." I give them my first genuine smile in years.
