When everything went down, I was lucky to be far away from the danger. Unfortunately, Anna was right there. So I fled the auction by myself, but not empty-handed.

Later she got out too, and we met up again. We hid in the outskirt of the city until it was dark enough. Then we searched for our informant, who took advantage of our situation and robbed me of my gold coins.

Finally, we're out of the city and walk on the road back to Esaville. At night there shouldn't be anybody patrolling. And even if there is, we could see the light from far away and hide. "I still don't understand why we had to leave our stuff behind," Anna complains again.

"Believe me, it will be worth it if we make it back. Let's rest here for the rest of the night. I don't think anyone is pursuing us." I feel sorry for Finn for leaving him behind. Why did he play hero? I know, I wouldn't.

--------------------------

Eventually, we made it to the edge of the forest. From here, it'll take us around a month to Esaville. I wish we had our transportation back. I hate walking. Just as we're about to leave the forest, I hear a voice, "Halt!" It sounds familiar, but I can't recall.

"Who are you?" I shout back, "we're just transpassing. We don't want any trouble." Much to my surprise, the same Elf, who searched for his friend when we traveled to Jade, walks out. "Ah, I remember you. We don't have your friend."

"We found him already. We're here for you. Follow me."

"But you don't even know who I am. And what do you need from me?"

"Come with me, and my leader will explain. I don't know myself."

"I don't want to!" I'm sure whatever they want can't be good.

"You can either follow me, or I will carry you; Your choice."

As a result, we left the road and walked through the forest to the south. For six days, we wandered on the boundary of the forest and then turned deeper into the woods. Finally, three days later, we arrived at a camp.

We're walking through a camp with a few small cabins, mainly tents. But what surprised me is that humans live here too. Are they not bandits? We go straight for the largest hut. Inside is only one man.

"Where is he?" He asks our escort.

"Right here, boss." He points at me.

"I told you to bring me the man who travels with him, you dork." They don't look for me. Good news.

"But these two were the only ones." The Elf says, confused.

"If you aren't looking for me, I'm more than happy to get out of your..."

"Where is he?" The leader of the group interrupts me.

"Where is who?"

"Finn. Where is he?"

"Oh, I presume in prison."

The leader thinks about something. Then, when he's done, he mutters, "I can't believe I have to go back to that shit hole."

I sit on a chair, and the table in front is covered with various meals.
Next to me sits a woman and two other individuals, but I can't discern who they are. "Honey, don't you like the dinner?"

"No, mother. It's fine, but I'm not hungry. Why did you call me here?" I turn to the unknown people. They're still blurry.

"Can't a mother dine with her own child?"

"Try at least the juice. It's a new one imported out of the mountains." One of the blurred says in a deep voice. I look over at my mother, who gives me a warm smile. I smile back and take the glass. It's sweet with a sour note and freezes my throat a little.

"It tastes good. What is it?" I ask into the room.

"It's honey from the Lissa-Bees mixed with ice." The deep voice answers. We talk for a while. I enjoy it, but the longer we converse, the more bemused I get.

After some time, my mother suggests, "Finn, you don't look so good. Go to your room; there should be someone from the city to keep you company for the night."

I excuse myself and stumble to my room. I tripped a few times and even hit my head once against a statue. Finally, I'm at my door and collapse into the room. The walls are moving like waves back and forth, and my body is getting hotter. Did they put alcohol into my drinks?

I roll over and try to stand but drop to the floor again. "My Prince, let me help you." A sweet angelic voice sings to me. I open my eyes to the most beautiful woman I have seen. She looks familiar, but my thoughts are jumping too fast around in my head. I grab the woman by her hand and...

"Did I wake you, sunshine?" Torsang is back for another round. I lost the last thousand. I'm sure it's impossible to win or to escape. I'll rote here for the rest of my life.

I lost count of the days after my first hundred blackouts. But even before, it was hard to keep track of time. I could be stuck here for weeks or even months.

Today wasn't my first time dreaming about Finn's 'old life'. However, before, it was never so clear. I don't have time to think about it. As usual, Torsang has his instruments by.

I dangle on the chains, my body covered in blood and saliva dripping from my mouth. The door shuts, and I'm alone again. This time I didn't pass out. Not sure if it's good to get used to this. My eyes slowly shut close, and I fall asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Come, come on, what are you waiting for? We don't have time, hurry."
"Your Highness is too fast for me. I'm sure we'll get there on time."
"I know, but I want to get there early," I say, excited. We're running through the castle up the stairs. We're dodging the servants and trying to knock as few things over as possible. At last, we reach the terrace on the rooftop.
Usually, it's used for banquets or other celebrations. But today, it's empty. We walk a little further to one of the towers and climb up. When we lay down to watch the sky, the girl asks me, "Your highness, why are we here? The people will gossip if they find out we're alone."
"I don't care! Soon, the sky will cry stars upon us. At least, it's what Alexander said. It means that something will fly across the sky today."
"Master Blaze said it? Don't you think he was joking?"
"No, Jela. I asked father, and he told me it's true."
"Forgive me, your highness. I'm worried nasty rumors will be spread about you."
No, you're not. You're scared because they'll think I slept with you, and you'll get executed." She doesn't answer me. We lay on the stones in silence for a while. "I'm sorry. That was harsh of me. I know that's not what you meant."
"See, that's what I'm always talking about. You can't apologize to a lowborn servant like me. What will the people think? You'll rule this kingdom in the future. I have no place beside you."
"That's not true. You're all I wa..."
"Don't!" Jela screams. Then whispers, "don't say it."
We wait in silence for the stars. A few hours later, just as we want to leave, the sky begins to brighten. At first, one light flies across, leaving a trail of white and green behind. Eventually, so many lights fly across the sky that night turns into day.
We watch for over half an hour until the sky darkens again. The stars are still flying across but a lot less. "This is beautiful," Jela whispers.
"Yes, it truly is breathtaking. How do you think such a thing is possible?"
"...I-Maybe it's the world refilling the Essence. It can't be unlimited, right?"
"New Essence? I like it. ...Jela, what do you want to do in the future?" I ask.
"I hope to stay here until I have enough money to travel the world."
"That sounds nice. Will you take me with you?"
"You belong here, my Prince. But..."
Water splashes in my face. Is it time for my treatment? I try to open my eyes but can't because of all the dried sweat and blood. Then, I hear someone creep closer. Once again, I get showered with water. The whole room stinks like a rusty toilet, so I'm unsure if it's water. Still feels nice, though. Eventually, the muck gets soft, and I open my eyes. All I can see is the door closing. Lucky me.
The dreams are so authentic. They're more like flashbacks; I wonder what happened in the past. Do I get a free day? Shut up, man. Don't jinx it. I have chats with myself sometimes. I'm not proud of it, but what can I do? I already counted the stones on the wall; there're 621311. I double-checked, so don't bother to count.
I can't believe things worked out this way. It's absurd. Everything. I-Me-Should-What, "Aaaaaaaaah". Tears run down my face. My body shakes, and I panic. I scream again and again until my voice cracks.
It takes some time to calm myself. It happens sometimes. I assume the flashbacks trigger some kind of emotional reaction, along with the torture, hunger, and thirst. I hope they will bring me some food soon; it has been days since the last time.
Who was the visitor? He should give me water to drink, not waste it like that. Of course, it was Torsang. Wait a second; the goblins are a sapient race. I didn't realize it until now, but I murdered somebody. In my defense, they started it. I should feel bad about it, but I don't. Maybe some other day.
I hear the key turn in the lock, and the door opens. But not Torsang walks in, but an Elf. Like every Elf, his eyes are black, but his iris orange. Askei's was purple, and all the other Elves had blue, green, or yellow ones. Are they unique, or is it just mutation?
"Oh my, what did they do to you?" The newcomer questions.
"Are you not my new playmate?" I ignore his question. They're tricking me somehow. "I don't know anything. I won't say anything. I never saw anything. I..."
"Stop. I get it. I can't even imagine what you went through. Don't worry. I'll get you out."
He stands at the door but doesn't move closer. They're making fun of me; I knew it. If I ever escape, I'll rip their; the man stands in front of me before I can complete my thought. I hear a click on my right and then on my left. Something slaps against my thighs, and I slide down the wall. My mouth wide open, I look up at the Elf.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Tom. You visited my mother two months ago and brought her a letter. Don't you remember?"
"Two months ago? That means I'm stuck here for a month. It sure felt longer. Amelia? You're the rude son."
"Yes. We only have a little time. Come, I'll support you." He puts his shoulder under my arm, and we leave my cell.
