The sound of a rumbling engine shook me awake as I let sunlight enter into my eyes. I felt the unbearing need to groan as I had just gotten off of work only to be called back into my unit for a mission of "utmost importance". However once the helicopter, I was in touched down on the hard tarmac, my doubts begin to shift away, and I replaced them with focus. The only thing that matters now is paying attention and discerning whatever mission im being sent into.

I got off the chopper with my duffel bag full of gear, and I made my way to the Staff Sergeant who was processing those who had been called back into the National Guard. "Name?" He asked. I gave him my ID and told him my occupation.

"Martinez Albert, 6th Special Forces group, 2nd Battalion," I said. He let out a chuckle and pointed toward a building with a telephone pole on top of a roof along with a group of other soldiers standing near it.

"You'll be reporting to your battalion commander, he'll debrief you on your mission. About time we got reinforcements." He said half amusingly. I nodded in acknowledgment as I made my way toward the said building. I also took in the view of the FOB I was at, immediately I looked at the orange and jagged design of a nearby mountain and I tried to determine whether I was in Arizona, or Utah.

Honestly, both places are unbearably hot so I couldn't tell. I got in front of the building and took a glance at all the SF members who were there. Some were in uniform whilst others were in civilian attire due to the urgent call, however, that shouldn't matter as a lieutenant opened the door and ushered the 2nd Battalion inside along with me. We were under a large tent where we sat on our duffel bags so we wouldn't have to use the sand as a sitting ground. We waited in the heat for but a few short moments before the Battalion Commander came inside along with the company commanders.

He stood up on a podium before beginning his briefing. "Alright all eyes on me!" He began.

"Listen up, Keithman is under attack by an unknown invasion force. Intelligence says that their some sort of androids who have gone rogue, whilst others contradict them. We don't know for sure but all we know is that they've taken over a majority of the cities and towns spread out across Keithman. Their weaponry remains unknown, however, they have taken out the 4th and 12th Infantry regiments of the National Guard that were sent prior before you."

'Unknown invasion force, how do they not know who's invading us, and why in a place so far from any main cities?" Too many questions passed through my head as tried to wrap my head around the sudden confusion.

"What we know is that these androids possess weaponry that is, undeniably magic. They've been known to damage light armored vehicles using explosives from staffs and magical weapons and possess powers that are... abnormal to us. However, that's what we do, we fight in an everchanging battlefield."

"Fortunately we stopped the android's attempts at moving further East of Keithman, we destroyed the tunnels that led out of the county, but that also means it won't be long before the androids find a way out. Temporary border to say the least."

"This is where you boys come into play, your mission is to locate and reactivate the power plant located West of the main city, you'll ride in by helicopter and you'll be dropped far from the mission objective. Any questions?"

An operator piped up the first question, "Why far away sir?"

The Colonel sighed as he knew the details of the mission were pretty vague and undescriptive. "It's unknown as to whether the enemy possesses anti-air capabilities, but there have been reports from pilots of the 160th Air Recon who were taking fire from snipers from the Military Base."

"Sir, what kind of enemy are we fighting." A soldier curiously asked.

Everyone in the tent remained silent for a few moments before the Colonel responded with a low tone.

"These 'things' that were fighting, they're not human. In the initial invasion, they tore apart civilians and police alike. No matter the gender, age, or race. These things are inhuman, they will charge at you with an emotionless intent. Or so the 4th Infantry said. However, we cannot take this lightly gentlemen."

"I can't believe I'm saying this but, were fighting against androids that take the form of Japanese animation characters, that come in some of the weirdest clothes I've ever seen. If you see anything that is not green or if something is colorful, you shoot it dead. Is that understood?"

The whole tent agreed in a short yes sir, however, the Colonel didn't take it as an answer.

"I said! Do I make myself clear!" To which the room roared in a determined tone.

"Sir, Yes Sir!"

1 hour later...

Loading in the last round to my magazine, I placed it in my left pouch for when the time comes to fight whatever is in Keithman. The Colonel ordered us to meet in our squads for our respective detachments. Multiple other battalions will be spread out in Keithman for a number of other objectives, however, I find that the mission we were given was more simple than we thought.

I looked at the grid map to find the location where we dropping in to be relatively far from the objective, however, it wasn't impossible for an SF squad. One of my squad mates poked his head through the tent flap to check on me and asked when I'll be on the tarmac.

I replied with an OK hand sign before folding the map into my back pocket and leaving the tent with my rifle. The weapon I was using was a conversion of the M16A1 however with a shorter barrel, a gooseneck mount along with a standard Kobra sight. A weapon that isn't a standard issue was troublesome to convince my superiors however, I managed to succeed in convincing them to let me keep it.

The sun had set, and the only thing left was the orange hue that shined upon the horizon that painted the airfield. We got on the first Blackhawks that were to be sent into enemy territory, with the single thought that we may not come back alive, however even if that thought crossed our mind, we believed that we were making a difference by killing the machines that showed no mercy to the helpless.

We will be there, and we will fight anytime, no matter the conditions that have been placed. We ride under the sunset, and we will fight in the dark. I finished my notes and closed my notebook, waiting for the moment they give us that green light to jump.
