This is the first option. At the beginning of the story, Aldo has to run off to rescue his sister.
In the game, you receive characters by a gacha system. In my version, the characters will be encountered at locations in the world it makes sense to encounter them.
In this case, it makes sense for one of the starting companions for Aldo to set off with to be among the three characters who are fellow residents of the starting village, Baroki.
However, it does not make sense to use all 3 of them, and even 2 of them could be a little rough. So, for the sake of story and pacing, one of the three will come along at the beginning of the story. For people unfamiliar with the game, this is the break-down of the characters.
Darunius
A childhood friend of Aldo's, he is the leader of the Baroki village guard and a skilled hunter who is very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and the best ways to keep the village safe. His methods include roughing up the apex predators and powerful monsters in the area in order to teach them to be afraid of humans, thus creating a balance in which the large animals will keep away the smaller threats and he only has to control the fewer large animals rather than worrying about every little creature that might threaten the local townspeople.
Darunis' preferred weapon is the bow, which he took up in favor of the sword after seeing Aldo's skilled swordsmanship combined with his good-natured attitude and wanted to always be able to have Aldo's back.
(If Darunius is not selected to travel with Aldo, I plan to include his 1st character story in which the tactics just specified are made use of to patrol and rough-up a local monster in the area before releasing it. Whether he is selected or not, he will also be utilized during May's graveyard storyline.)
Nomar
A childhood friend of Aldo's, Nomar has a cowardly personality. Despite this, when his friends Aldo and Darunis joined the village guard, he decided to join as well.
While Nomar lacks self-confidence and cowers in the face of danger, he is still able to contribute to the village guard due to how knowledgeable he is about weapons and armor, and the connections he has with ore miners and the local blacksmiths through his friend May. Due to this expertise, he is often put in charge of the guard's supplies.
(If Nomar is not selected, I plan to include his 1st character story in which he helps to escort one of the village girls to Unigan during the events after Aldo returns to his own time after the tower of time incident in the ancient time-period. Whether he is selected or not, he will also be utilized during May's graveyard storyline.)
May
A childhood friend of Aldo's, May is the daughter of the local blacksmith. Blacksmith work is a multi-generational business for May's family, and her mother even was something of a heroic figure as a blacksmith-warrior.
May is very diligent in making sure her friends have properly maintained weapons and equipment, assuring their safety in what ways she can.
Whether May is selected or not, she has a key storyline involving time-traveling to a specific course of events at a certain graveyard. This story-line will be included regardless of who is selected, with the only real question being whether the reader will have been previously introduced to her or not by the time this story-line comes up.
