- What? - Will asked me, looking over his shoulder.
- Let's talk.
- Now? But...
- Now.
He sighed, and closed the door using 'Telekinesis'.
- Look, Peter... I'm kinda not in the mood. Elaine...
- That's also what we need to talk about, but only partially. What did she say to you? I noticed you are upset.
- She basically informed me that if the CIA didn't pressure her, she would never come here. She wants a proper divorce as soon as possible. The worst thing is, I don't know if I'll be able to get custody of my son. She made it clear, that she doesn't want me in his life.
I snorted. I knew what he did, but Will changed, and he deserved a second chance. She clearly wasn't gonna give him one.
- I get that this place is not for children, and Dusting shouldn't live here, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to see him, does it?
- Calm down Will. You are losing your son only over my dead body. This brings me to the second topic, though... What dead did you make with those two?
- Those two? CIA? - he asked.
- Yep, exactly them. They pulled me to the side and started talking about my mother...
- I didn't make any deals. They showed up here, asked many people a lot of questions, then came to me, and offered me to bring my family here.
- Out of the blue? - I asked.
- No! They have been here for a couple of days. Not 'been' been, but they kept visiting every day... They had to somehow find out who I was. Then they made an offer. What the hell did they say to you about your mother? Did they threaten you? They didn't... They are still alive - he started thinking out loud.
- They just mentioned they can bring her here.
- And that's why you are so angry?
- I don't want any fucking government poking their ringers in my private life, and especially not in the private life of my relatives. I can go and see my mother without their help.
Will sighed.
- I think you are overreacting a bit, Peter.
- I'm not overreacting. If you want somebody to lose all their money gambling, you let them win the first game, then you fuck them over. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be fucked over. They might just be luring us in.
- So what the fuck I'm supposed to do, huh?! Elaine made it clear, she doesn't want me in her life! Do you think the judge will allow me to see my son without their help?! Because I don't fucking think so! - he clearly lost his shit, and came at me, poking the air with his index finger after every sentence.
- I won't let that happen.
- You have fucking nothing to say about this! We are here, they are there! Do you think if we won't cooperate, they won't try to fuck with us?! Grow the fuck up, Peter! The world is not a fair place, and I don't want to lose my son!
- You know what? Fuck you - and I shadow walked back to my room in the barracks.
It was grey there since the sun was coming down, and that was the only resource of light, thanks to the uncovered window. I was so pissed, that I wanted to destroy something, but there was really nothing to destroy. I calmed myself down with few deep breaths and went outside.
I headed to Hatta's office, but he wasn't there. The guards informed me he went to Velvet Lotus. I needed somebody to talk to. I needed somebody to vent. To tell them how stupid Will is, and how he is tying a rope around his own neck. The only problem was, there was nobody available.
I left Wuxia's headquarters and strolled around the city center for a bit. It was quite crowded with the soldiers and locals spending their evening in the pub.
Then I got an idea. It wasn't the smartest one, but I couldn't think of anything better, so I did it. I shadow walked back to the anchor left in Poland, close to the cemetery my father was buried in. It was dark there. Middle of the night. I went to his grave, sat on the ground, and told him everything.
It helped me deal with emotions. I didn't get any answers from him, but somehow the chaos in my head died down, and this made space for a better idea. I said goodbye, and left, heading towards my mother's flat.
I tried my best to avoid people, since somebody could have seen me on the TV, putting up the barrier for few days.
I got to the right apartment block, and shadow walked past the doors to the staircase, then climbed my way to the right place. I knocked, and she opened after a solid moment.
She invited me in. Leading to a kitchen where I spend so much of my life. Made me a tea, and told me what she saw on the TV. We talked for a moment about the situation there, before she asked me why I came, then I told her everything that happened throughout the whole day.
- Look, Peter... You should respect your friend's decision. He is cornered. You shouldn't argue with him, even if he is wrong. You should have his back.
- I tried, and then we argued...
- Because this is something he cares for deeply, and he understands his own situation, that's why he was so quick to get angry. If he thinks that's his only choice, let him do it, but you should still protect him if you care for him.
- Ok... I'll try. I'm worried about you too. Some people already figured out who I am, and more is going to come. I don't know what they will do.
- I'll be fine - she smiled at me.
- You should come with me. Out there you will be safe.
- No, Peter. My place is here.
- But... There are so many possibilities out there. You could...
- I'll visit you when the situation is clarified a bit, but my place is here. I was born in this country, I lived my whole life here, and I want to die here.
- But...
- You are a good person Peter. You always were. You always cared so much about others... Now you should care more about yourself, and -she rose her finger - you should find yourself a nice girl. I want grandchildren.
- Oh mom...
- No 'oh mom'. You are getting only older. There are plenty of nice girls out there.
The conversation switched to 'those' topics, and we talked for around an hour overall, then I left, dropping an anchor on the staircase to not have to walk through the city anymore to visit her.
Calmed down, and having a clearer view of what I should do, I shadow walked back to my room in the barracks.
