Quite early in the morning, Vikram found me on the hotel's rooftop. I was supposed to be in my room, but I just couldn't stay there. I had enough bullshit in my life, and couldn't stop thinking that another asshole will try to bug the place, so I just left.
Besides, there was a nice view of the stars up there.
- Everything is prepared down there. Soon they will start arriving - he informed me, as I was simply lying and still looking at the sky.
The day was quite nice. The sun was shining brightly, and there were no clouds despite a few small ones here and there.
- I'll be right there.
- Ok. I'll be waiting in front of the conference room if you need anything. Do you know where it is?
- I'll find it if I need it.
He just shrugged his shoulders and left. I remained there for a few minutes, but eventually, I just needed to get up. I peaked down what was going on in front of the building and what I saw was a crowd of reporters kept at bay quite a distance from the hotel, and the whole perimeter secured by men in black suits.
There were at least a few dozen of them. I also noticed heavily armed people stationed on the roofs of nearby buildings, clearly from the army.
I sighed and shadow walked to the ground floor, then using 'Eyes of the Void' quickly found other hunters. There were even more agents inside than outside, but I had no issues distinguishing them from the hunters even without being able to properly 'see' them.
They were deeper in the hotel where a big conference hall was located. Still waiting outside in small groups. I noticed Will, Adam, Gavriil, Tai, and Katri Xel Avakadaisu, so I went towards them, but some guy in a suit stopped me. He had some list in his hand on a sturdy pad.
- Name? - he asked as he blocked my path.
- Peter - I said, and as he looked on his page, I just bypassed him.
He grabbed my arm, but as I turned around to look at him he let go of me and stepped back scared. Yes, I transformed a bit.
He swallowed spit nervously and glanced again on his list.
- Peter, yes... you might go.
With that, I could finally join the group. Adams's eyebrows rose in silent question. Will was just smiling.
- Can you not scare poor agents? - he asked.
- I hate agents, and you know why.
He just laughed as the rest was left clueless of what was going on.
- What is going on? - I asked them after a moment of silence.
- We are just killing time, waiting for a bunch of old farts to come and try to boss us around in the presence of Ashal Kal Anur - said Semenov.
- Why not inside? - I pointed at the door blocked by two men in suits.
- Because the men wearing dark didn't let us in - said Atri.
- And since when do we allow some guys to push us around? - I asked.
- You are right, Peter - agreed Gavriil with a smile on his face. - We saved this damn planet.
Adam wanted to say something but the vampire already turned around, heading straight to the door. I followed him.
One of the guards blocked his path extending a hand with an open palm.
- You can't go inside yet - he informed.
- Why not? - asked Semenov. - Who is going to stop me? You? You know what? I was slowly getting a bit hungry.
He smiled and licked his fangs scaring the shit out of the agent. He looked at his companion who also had no idea how to react, but Gavriil solved that problem for them, as he pushed both to the sides using 'Telekinesis' and opened the door for himself. Then went inside.
I followed him, and soon other hunters also did.
The room we got inside was quite a big one, with no windows. All the light was provided by the chandeliers hanging from a tall ceiling. There were a few big tables assembled into a shape of a horseshoe. They were made out of light wood, with darker middle parts.
The place could easily contain over a hundred people, but still, the chairs were placed quite tightly. There was a bottle of water and small microphones prepared for everybody, with an earpiece to listen from. Each sit had a named badge assigned to it.
In front of the door was a rostrum for some speakers to use if needed.
The floor was covered by a brown rug, matching the color with tables, and the walls had a few art pieces, but nothing too overwhelming.
We found our places and sat down. There was a bit of talking involved and some noise was an effect of it, but it quickly died down. Maybe fifteen minutes later the first dignitary showed up with two other people. I had no idea who all of them were, but they all were white. One of them came closer to us, since Will was sitting next to me, and attempted to introduce himself and the rest, but Gavriil, who also was in the vicinity, prevented that.
- Maybe the penguins outside didn't give you guys the memo, but we hate politicians here, so you might forget about shaking hands - he said with a wide psycho smile on his face.
That was enough to scare the guy, who retracted his and, and just stepped back. Then all three of them went to find their seats.
- Maybe you shouldn't do that? - asked Adam.
- You want to get close to a bunch of thieves and liars who would do anything to protect their own asses? You want to be used by those rats, just because you have some dignity, and are willing to sacrifice yourself for the greater good, like you did, back there, on Dispur? Because let me tell you, they will try this shit with you over and over again if you let them, so showing them the middle finger right here and now is the better option.
- We had our fair share of that already - said Will, looking at me.
