“Hearing you say that makes the back of my right eyeball itch,” said Long Di. “The answer is-”
“Yes,” a weak voice made a decision that caused Long Di’s brow to ascend to the very heavens.

“Feng Yu?” Long Di looked to the side and saw the young demon waking up atop Lord Whiskers’s back.
“Long Di, I want to stay here,” said Feng Yu, further confirming what she said earlier.
“We are pleased that you will be joining us Shidashi Linghun,” the chief elder executed a bow as much as he could.
“The heck you are,” Long Di looked at Feng Yu, who was now waking up, albeit a bit groggy.
“Making decisions whilst you’re waking up is not a practice you should engage in. Trust me, I should know,” Long Di advised.
“Really?” Feng Yu questioned. “Because I’ve never seen you sleep except when you’re gravely injured.”
“I wake up when I want. In any case, that’s neither here nor there. What do you mean you’re going to be staying here? What caused this need to manifest?” asked Long Di.
Hearing this question, Feng Yu shifted her gaze to Lord Whiskers, who caused her expression to soften, “Long Di, do you know what a Shidashi Linghun is?”
“Hmmm…” his gaze shifted to Yaomu Shou, whose eyes guiltily darted elsewhere.
“I should know what it is, but someone decided to rise from beating around the bush to severely assaulting half a dozen oak trees.” Long Di would never forget how it felt like Yaomu Shou took up an entire chapter of his life to explain one thing.
“A Shidashi Linghun is the soul of the Shidashi Mao,” explained Feng Yu.
Long Di nodded, “Thank you, Feng Yu.”
“You’re welcome apprentice-brother Long Di.”
“See that Yaomu Shou? That’s how you spare the bush and make me happy.”
“Tch,” Yaomu Shou snorted and avoided Long Di’s gaze.
He then turned his attention back to Feng Yu. “I’m guessing you’ll go into details since I still have no idea what that means?”
“Mhmm,” Feng Yu nodded. “Because the heavenly daos reject the Shidashi Mao, they were born without a soul. However, that in itself is a violation of the heavenly daos. So, to circumvent this conundrum-”
“A race came about that would act as the soul of the Shidashi Maos, granting them a soul without giving them a soul,” finished Long Di.
“You got it,” Feng Yu smiled.
“Thank you, Feng Yu,” said Long Di.
“You’re welcome apprentice-brother Long Di,” smiled Feng Yu.
“You see that Yaomu Shou? That was less than a chapter of my life.”
“Screw you!” Yaomu Shou cursed. “My explanation laid the groundwork for making everything that much easier to understand!”
“So you’re the hero I needed but never wanted?” Long Di asked indifferently.
“I’m avoiding you, hmph” Yaomu Shou looked away once more with a harrumph.
Shaking his head, he turned back to Feng Yu, “This doesn’t explain why you’re leaving us.”
Feng Yu smiled in response, “Are you going to miss me?”
“Much like the fart that I smelt but never dealt… yes,” Long Di replied.
Feng Yu’s expression darkened instantly, “You dead faced hardened stinky piece of poop can’t you act like an expert!?”
“Meow!” Lord Whiskers bared its fangs at Long Di when it felt her flustered state.
“There’s the Feng Yu I know.” Long Di nodded before he turned to Lord Whiskers asking, “and who are you telling to watch it? Do you not want any more belly rubs?”
The Lord Whiskers snorted and looked away, much like Yaomu Shou.
“You’re as annoying as ever,” Feng Yu said, crossing her arms.
The reason why Long Di made sure to annoy Feng Yu a while ago was due to her demeanour changing, along with her appearance. He couldn’t tell what it was, but the way she spoke differed from how it was normally.
He couldn’t help but feel a bit better when she returned to her normal, easily annoyed state.
“Incredible,” the chief elder stated.
Long Di’s eyes slid in his direction. “What is?” he asked.
The chief elder explained, “According to legends, the Shidashi Mao would undeniably slaughter anyone that dared to as much as annoy their Shidashi Linghun.”
Long Di turned his gaze towards Lord Whiskers and asked, “What are you, a sociopath?”
“Reargh…” Lord Whiskers replied without looking at him.
“Don’t take that tone with me,” he responded.
“You,” he turned to Feng Yu. “Explain what I asked earlier. We keep getting side-tracked. Why are you leaving us?”
“Oh, right,” Feng Yu just remembered. “When I was synchronising with Lord Whiskers, my physique and constitution were slightly altered.”
“Oh?” Both Long Di and Yaomu Shou grew interested while the chief elder closed his eyes and focused on healing. As far as he was concerned, his job was done.
“Yes,” Feng Yu nodded. “Within this place, many of the experts here, there’s a kind of analeptic feeling I’m getting from them.”
“That sounds like hormones,” said Long Di.
“I don’t know what that is,” Feng Yu regularly heard terms and words uttered by Long Di that she never heard about and she didn’t intend to entertain this tangent any longer.
“In any case, I think it might be related to their cultivation technique,” she said finally.
“You’re right. That would stem from the fact that our cultivation technique is a derivative of the divine ability of the Shidashi Mao itself.” The chief elder answered. “Your constitution is picking up on the familiar fluctuations that we give off by cultivating the Demonic Divine Masochist Battle Lust Technique. You would be able to cultivate twice as fast with half the effort.”

“Are you sure you want to be saying all this with me in the room?” Long Di asked.
“You’re a friend of the Shidashi Linghun and, even more impressively, a friend of the Shidashi Mao itself, so we don’t outrightly view you as an outsider,” he explained.
Long Di didn’t pay this much attention before he addressed Feng Yu once more, “You know I can create a cultivation technique geared towards you specifically.”
“Ha!” The chief elder sneered. “Do you think creating a cultivation technique is the same as practising one?”
Long Di only glanced at him before ignoring him once more, which only served to enrage the chief elder.
“You…!”
“Chief elder, can you excuse us for a moment?” Feng Yu asked.
The chief elder’s expression fell, “S-Shidashi Linghun??”
“And my name is Feng Yu. Please give us a bit of time for ourselves,” she asked once more.
It was obvious he and Long Di would continue to butt heads if they stayed in the same room.
“If it’s what the lady wishes,” the chief elder glared at Long Di for a moment, then proceeded to drag himself out the room with his arms.
“You’re going to make it harder on me when you leave, you know,” Feng Yu advised.
“All the more why I shouldn’t leave you here. I can create a technique for you,” Long Di advised. “One much better than what they have here, I’m sure.”
She shook her head to dismiss this idea. “That requires time, and you said it yourself. You feel some invisible blade hanging over your head and that the advancement of your strength is paramount. I don’t know what you’re going up against, but knowing you, it isn’t something simple.”
She then went on, “I feel that my strength will grow here if I stay. So please, allow me to become useful to you.”
“Who knows, if I’m lucky, maybe I’ll be able to have the entire Nether Immolation War Temple become your ally,” she jokingly said.
“I’ll hold you to that,” Long Di said. “I’m assuming you feel this way because of the stuff you did with Lord Whiskers that ended up giving you lighter hair and cat eyes?”
She nodded. “There’s a kind of instinct in me now. For the first time, I have a goal of some kind and my first stop is here. I’m sure of it now.”
“Fine, this is where we part Feng Yu… for now.” Long Di with a tone of finality.
He gestured towards Yaomu Shou, who now got up and was getting ready to leave with him.
He headed towards the door and opened it, allowing the sunshine to warm his body.
Yaomu Shou came out as well followed by Feng Yu and Lord Whiskers.
“I’m taking the cat,” Long Di said deadpan.
“Hissssss!” Lord Whiskers hissed in retaliation.
“It’s fine Lord Whiskers. Go with him. Our connection means you can find me anytime you want. You need slaughter to grow anyway, and something tells me you’ll be able to get a lot of that if you travel with him.”
“Rrrrrrrrr…” Lord Whiskers purred affectionately as he nestled his head next to her. She rubbed it in response and gave a gentle smile as she did so. She truly seemed at peace when she was with him.
“Okay, go now,” she lightly pressed him away, compelling him to go to Long Di and Yaomu Shou’s side.
“Are you sure you can control that thing?” Yaomu Shou eyed the Shidashi Mao suspiciously.
“Nope,” Long Di answered as he climbed atop it. “Coming?” he held a hand to her to bring her up behind him.
“Haaa…” she freed a tired sigh and took his hand. “You’re a troublesome ally indeed.”
“Don’t fall far behind me now,” Feng Yu smiled.
“I should be saying that to you,” Long Di fired back.
Shu!
In the blink of an eye, Lord Whiskers took off, taking Long Di and Yaomu Shou with him.
She already lost sight of them as Lord Whiskers disappeared between the buildings to leave the Nether Immolation War Temple.
Shu!
One of the many elder level existences arrived beside her in a flash. “Esteemed Shidashi Linghun, I-”
“Just Feng Yu is fine,” she said dismissively.
“Uh, I-I L-Lady Feng Yu?” the expert didn’t dare to give her any less than the respect she deserved but still tried to meet her request.
Feng Yu sighed, “Good enough. I’m guessing you’re here to take me to my quarters and get me started.”
The elder level existence nodded.
“Go on then,” she urged him on.
She followed him as they left the meeting room to start Feng Yu’s new life at the Nether Immolation War Temple.
…
As soon as they left, a near see-through silhouette of a burly man appeared with the chief elder at his side.
“Temple Lord, is it alright for us to let him go like this?” The chief elder didn’t like how Long Di repeatedly disrespected and disregarded the Nether Immolation War Temple.
It would create a negative effect if word of this were to get out.
The mysterious Temple Lord stared straight ahead for a while before responding, “I have heard some news from the great sects that a certain existence has come into being. I have no doubt in my mind that it is that child. The timing is too coincidental. He has given us a Shidashi Linghun, and the Shidashi Mao will never truly leave its soul.
“The great sects are going to act soon and I want no part of it. The existences that are after him are beyond our imagination, so don’t worry about it and focus on the Shidashi Linghun and Savage Taitan. They are the hope of our Nether Immolation War Temple.”
“As you wish, Temple Lord,” the chief elder executed a sorry excuse for a bow.
