I should probably leave now.

As I stepped out of the shade carefully, I kept up my spell. Out to my left was a demon wrestling with the angel from before, so I booked right back to where I came from. Passing by crooked signs, the desolated streets became more lively with people, some as lively as they could be unmoving. I had to slow down my pace to avoid some broken rubble and overturned cars.

First thing first, I need to get water. I'm already feeling thirsty with all this exercise... Then yes, I need to find a hideout to safely call Ma. She'll lead us to another home. Ma said we can't go back to our old home, because the demons and angels will get us. I never understood how; our home felt pretty hidden to me. It was nice.

The temperature was perfect, there was shade everywhere from the curving trees and the humidity was amazing. In the cities, the environment always felt out of place for me. Even though I had experience going to school here in Ferian, I never got used to it. Must be pollution in the air getting to me.

She never did tell me why I needed to live in Ferian a week before the apocalypse too. Or why she had to go run an errand somewhere.

Well, Ma doesn't tell me a lot of things. It's okay. She must have her reasons.

I spot a convenience store.

Right. Water. Food! SWIFT!

I push open the smogged glass door. Inside, the shelves were in a mess. Ransacked already?

I just need some water. Preferably some orange juice. And make it two bottles.

A groan behind the checking counter made me notice the undead. She used to be a female cashier and her jaw was missing. Someone must've smashed her face hard because her missing jaw pieces were scattered in front of her.

So get in and out.

I sneak over to the fridge and scan for that orange juice. Yes!

My gun was put away in my pocket temporarily and my hand reached for the fridge's handle, opening the fridge ever so carefully. I hear the zombie make another groan upon the slight suction being released, but I don't hear it moving. Tentatively, I grab the bottle of the knocked-over Sunny Orange, stuffed it into one of my duffel bag's pockets, and then put a water bottle where my glock was. I close the fridge, it's time to make my way out of here.

Happily, I move over to the store's front and got out. Everything's going great! I swish my tails back and forth; now for the shelter. Hmm. Maybe the house Ma got for me to stay at during my time here in Ferian would work. I took sips of my water and put it away.

Walking took me around 40 minutes to get to my front porch. What used to be my front porch.

The house was absolutely demolished and all that was left were barebone structures. The houses all around it and in this neighborhood were also in the same state, some were even leveled to the ground.

I was shocked. When I regained my senses, I smelled fresh iron. Then I noticed the glowing orange blood splattered around the cracked concrete. The sky was darkening, casting shadows over me.

This can't be good. I don't see any of them right now, but they could come back. They could be anywhere. Are they behind me? In front? I don't know.

I scratched at my fur frantically, glancing around.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

From the distance, my eyes narrow in on one of the city skyscrapers that's towards the center of Ferian.

I'm going to go there.

I felt my teeth grow out.

I will get there.

I mumble a spell.

SPLASH! I play around in the clear pond water that's slightly shaded by the willow tree. Shaded areas are the best places to be when it's sunny outside!

Ma was reading a book nearby. Suddenly, I hear her close the book and place it on the wooden table.

"Flower."

"Yes, Ma?"

"What's the third rule of the apocalypse?"

I held up the small wooden doll that was attached to my necklace. Ma personally made it. It has a red dress, carved-out sunken eyes, and a funny mouth that's open.

"If I'm not with you, once I'm in a safe space, push magic in here and wait for you to get me."

I went underwater, coming out with a lily pad on top of my head. Out of nowhere, some more water splashed onto me. I know that one was Ma. I laughed and splashed some back at her. It didn't reach her and instead hit her forcefield.

Her red lips curved and she brushed back her curly lavender hair, "Yes. Good job."

I felt very drained when I reached the center of the city. I used magic to make my muscles denser, while also using a spell to use the winds to make me go faster. As the muscles disperse back into magic, the sudden loss of muscles makes me ache. No. I can't stop now. I pushed more magic into the spell, regaining the lot and stretching my original mass further.

I need to hurry up. Looking up at the skyscraper, the quickest way to the top should be this.

Swooosh!

Crack.

Swoosh!

Each grab with my paw hurts. The glass shards dug into my skin and I bit back my tears. It's fine. Ma will come and get me then we'll leave. The quicker I get to a safe spot the quicker I will be able to see Ma and get away. What's more of a safer spot than the top of a skyscraper? All the demons, angels, and zombies are fighting down on the streets.

The air became colder as I went up. With one last push, I snatched the edge of the rooftop, bringing myself over the wall and dropping to the ground. I calmed myself, retracting my more animalistic features so Ma wouldn't see me in that state.

I take a look around. Besides some bird poop and cigarette butts, no one was here. I stopped feeding my invisibility spell and sighed.

"Alright... Here it goes."

The wind from darkening skies started to pick up. It was far too cold for my liking and I didn't want to be here anymore. I dig out my necklace hidden under my hood. A wooden doll figure the size of my pinky cutely lays on my palm.

After taking a breath, I start to feed it my magic.

2:05 PM, February 29th, Ferian City

All the supernatural, demons, and angels glanced towards the center of the city.

For those who can feel magic, the magical signals that were coming from the skyscraper were practically a beacon of light.

A woman in sleek armor with a ponytail swung her spear to get the blood off her blade. She looked towards the skyscraper and pursed her lips.
