The planet was home to a large number of indigenous families. There was a rumor that there were no humans inhabiting this planet when it was born. After seeing the planet’s beauty, an expedition team decided to migrate. The founding team and their descendants were then dubbed as “natives”.

The natives had several privileges, one of which was that if they bore their surnames and were recognized by their families, they may reside on the Imperial planet for the rest of their lives and enjoy tremendous social benefits. After hundreds of years of evolution, just 10 of these indigenous families remained.

One of them were the Rigels and the Yans.

After the Cheng family settled on this planet, they had to deal with the ‘natives,’ most of whom were Yans.

Yan Qi was the seventh son of the Yan family’s current patriarch. He and Cheng Jin had nearly grown up together because they were the same age, and their friendship had been fairly nice when they were little. It’s only that as he reached his adolescence, the Chengs and Yans lost communication, and the personalities of Cheng Jin and Yan Qi no longer matched, so they stopped playing together. Cheng Jin hadn’t seen this childhood friend in four-five years.

He was caught off guard when he saw that the guy accompanying his brother was, in fact, Yan Qi. He hadn’t asked him why he was here, and he was even more bewildered when Asher addressed him as cousin. He couldn’t help but wonder, “Are you really cousins?” ”

“Cousin brother, our moms are sisters,” Asher remarked with a smile. “Yeah, there was a bit of a sensation back in the day when my aunt, recognized as the most beautiful person on the world, married the rude and ill-mannered Rigels,” said Yan Qi as he looked at Cheng Jin mockingly, with a sneer in his tone. “You didn’t even know?”

Yan Qi’s animosity was so visible that Cheng Jin was baffled. “Why should I know? But you, why are you here with my ge?”

Cheng Xu was about to explain when Yan Qi handed Cheng Jin the gift box he was carrying and remarked, “I came to see General Lu on behalf of my older brother.” “His brother Yan Yi was also a general, but he didn’t have a close relationship with Lu Tao. He just made a excuse to follow Cheng Xu, but those who didn’t know him wouldn’t be able to expose him.

Asher clearly didn’t take his earlier inflammatory remarks seriously. “Old bro, let me present this guy to you. This is Yan Qi, my cousin. He’s also a successful and great businessman, and he should now be firmly in the position of the richest man,” he remarked with a wee smile.

“Thank you for making a special trip to visit me,” Lu Tao replied cordially as they clasped hands.

After arranging for the little robot to serve beverages and fruit platters, Cheng Jin could finally spend some time alone with his brother in the kitchen. The brothers used to see each other almost every other day, especially when Cheng Jin’s husband wasn’t home.

Cheng Jin often visited and stayed with his family, but they started to spend less time together after the bankruptcy. It’d been four months since they’d last seen each other. Cheng Jin had been concerned about his brother, and even though they had frequent video chats, there were some things that couldn’t be seen through the screen.

Cheng Jin felt relieved now that he could see the real person and pay great attention to him and the clothes he was wearing. “Ge, I’ve been worrying about you. I’m worried that you’re not doing well, that you don’t have enough food or clothes, that you’re exhausting yourself with work. I’m worried that you’ll give up…” His eyes began to turn red. As he felt the urge to cry, he couldn’t help but jump at his brother for a big hug.

The hug threw Cheng Xu backwards, and his back smacked the table, causing him to grimace in pain. He almost let out a cry. He hugged his little brother, rubbed his hair and smiled. “Can you rest assured now?”

Cheng Jin cried in his arms, shaking his head while hugging him tightly. “No, I’m still worried. You’ve slimmed down.”

Cheng Jin thought the darkest days were when his family first filed for bankruptcy, because all the family’s belongings had to be sold, and he not only did not dare to attend any party, he was also not invited to many nice events. When he sought his friends for help, he was received with a cold shoulder or ridicule, so he learnt to keep his distance from them. He felt terrible about himself, and it wasn’t until he was looking for his brother and found him working in a factory that he realized the most unfortunate and miserable person in the family wasn’t him, but his brother.

What a charismatic person his brother used to be? Wherever he went, he was the center of attention, and he was constantly surrounded by the wealthy and powerful. But one day, he fell from the sky and plummeted straight on the rock bottom. His brother must’ve endured much more cold shoulder and ridicule than he had.

But he didn’t complain. Instead, he tried to solve the problem and overcome the obstacle.

Since then, Cheng Jin decided to work hard and share his brother’s burden.

“I’m fine. I’m well. Don’t worry. Don’t cry, don’t cry…” Cheng Xu gently patted his little brother, who couldn’t stop crying, so he added, “Didn’t you say you’d cook for me? I haven’t even had breakfast yet, and I’m starving.”

As soon as he said so, Cheng Jin stopped crying and raised his head from his brother’s chest; the tears on his snow-white face made him look pitiful. He sniffed and said, “I’ll get to it right away, ge. The soup is ready. I’ll go grab some for you.”

“There’s no hurry, and it’s also a bit impolite. Let’s wait for the others.”

“It’s not impolite at all. They’ve all had it already.” Cheng Jin insisted on serving his brother a bowl of soup while looking at him eagerly. “Try it, and see if the flavor has improved?”

Cheng Xu held the bowl in his hands and chuckled, “It must have improved. It smells so good.”

The compliment made Cheng Jin happy. He began to fry the sausage in the pan, and asked, “Ge, what are you doing for a living now? Still in that factory?”

Cheng Xu paused for a moment and said calmly, “En, I’m at a different factory now.”

“What does it make?”

Cheng Xu’s head was a little fuzzy. He should’ve come up with a good story, but he hadn’t because of the guy who was constantly harassing him. He looked around the room and saw the fish Cheng Jin had just prepped and said, “Processing frozen fish.”

“Huh? Isn’t that very dirty?” Cheng Jin was a little distressed.

Cheng Xu smiled. “It’s all machine-processed. I only need to operate the machine. It’s not dirty.”

Cheng Jin was ingenuous and didn’t notice something was off. Instead, he was relieved. “That’s good.” Then he asked, “How come you came with Yan Qi? Didn’t you use to tell me to not get close to him? You said he was cunning. What were you doing with him then?”

Cheng Xu didn’t change his expression, and said, “I happened to run into him at the door, so we came in together.”

“No wonder.” Cheng Jin wasn’t suspicious. “It’s surprising that he’s Asher’s cousin. But they do look kind of alike.”

“It’s not surprising.” Cheng Xu relaxed as the topic shifted. “It’s very common for indigenous people to marry within the family to protect their interests. It’s easier to succeed when united. I remember Yan Chou – Asher Rigel’s mother – had a better match at that time, but she ultimately chose the head of the Rigel family. Many people didn’t know why and joked that their union was like Beauty and the Beast.”

When Cheng Jin heard this description and recalled the other Rigels he’d met, he felt it was fitting and couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s so mean. Maybe they were attracted to each other.”

“Maybe.”

Cheng Jin lowered his voice. “I remember Yan Qi’s parents married within the family, right?”

Cheng Xu’s heart always raced upon hearing this name, especially this year. He gave a soft “En” and put down the bowl after finishing the soup, and asked, “Anything I can help with?”

“Nope, ge, you can’t even cook. Just chat with me.” His brother seemed like he could do anything but Cheng Jin knew he had one weakness: he was a “kitchen murderer”. He didn’t know how to cook at all, and he could render the simplest dish uneatable. When he was twenty years old, he wanted to bake a cake for his little brother. Cheng Jin was really looking forward to it, but a fire ended up raging in the kitchen. If it weren’t for the fire prevention system they had installed, the whole family might’ve been burned to death.

After the incident, Cheng Xu rarely used the kitchen, and even if he did, he never touched anything.

Cheng Jin was sad while thinking of this. “Ge, since nobody cooks for you, have you only been having nutritional soups for the past two years?”

Cheng Xu, “Not really.”

Cheng Jin believed he was just trying to comfort him. After all, his brother had to pay for the majority of his father’s medical expenses, and because his job didn’t pay much and he had to save some money, the money he had left was probably just enough to buy nutritional soups. Cheng Jin said, “It must be the case, ge, don’t lie to make me feel better. I know the past two years have been hard for you. I wish you had gotten married. My sister-in-law could probably cook, and would be willing to cook for you.”

Upon hearing this, the picture of a certain tall figure cooking for him appeared in Cheng Xu’s head out of the blue, and he was suddenly irritated. After Cheng Jin fried the hotdog and started steaming the fish, he carefully asked, “Ge, do you want to get married?”

He knew he shouldn’t have asked. With their current circumstances, it would be difficult to find someone willing to marry him. But Cheng Jin’s heart ached every time he thought of his brother being alone. He thought that if his brother wanted to marry, he should work harder, take more orders, and make more money. That way, his brother would be able to marry.

Cheng Xu was about to respond when the kitchen suddenly dimmed and a tall figure appeared at the door and almost obscured the light. The man said in a lazy tone, “What are you talking about? Getting married?” Yan Qi looked at Cheng Xu, with a smile in his eyes and a laid-back tone, asking, “Is there someone Xu-ge would like to marry?”
