The street lights were lit, dispersing the evening twilight. From the window there was a wonderful view of the shining city, decorated with garlands and Christmas lights. Everywhere people scurried about, looking thoughtfully at the shop windows. The pre-holiday mood reigned in the city.

In the midst of all the splendor, towered one of dozens of office buildings. The skyscraper, once filled with hundreds of people, is a place of eternal bustle and haste. Now it has turned into an empty stone monument. A lone guard was watching a story about a Christmas tree in the central square, on an old hissing TV. A couple of cleaners finished their work, and puts away inventory.

Only in one office did the dim light of the monitor burn, illuminating the pale face of the worker, emphasizing the dark circles around his eyes. Beams of blue light reflected off the many cans and bottles that filled the table.

The boy opened the last of the cans and took a sip of the sizzling, sweet liquid to ward off sleep.

“Thus, the correlation between the profit on products B and the marketing campaign carried out 3 weeks before the start of sales, in relation to products A, was more than 0.8. That allows you to judge the effectiveness of additional promotions to raise the volume of initial sales of new products that have not been released before, but are part of our brand.” He finished the paragraph by switching to another document and scrolling the mouse wheel.

The monitor filled with rows of numbers and formulas. The annual sales report was a heavy burden on his shoulders. Even though the directors and heads of departments left a week ago, but sempai insisted on completing this task before the end of Friday. Tomoki had been at work for the third day. His consciousness became clouded; time became an abstract concept. He was sure that he slept for six hours, but in fact, he would rather lose consciousness for several minutes, wake up and continue to work.

He recently graduated from a prestigious college and immediately went to work in one of the companies that he was offered at the department. The first month seemed magical, as if he had gained the long-awaited freedom and independence. Pleasant colleagues, clear tasks, high salary for a beginner. All acquaintances were forced to pass dozens of interviews, spending their talent on part-time jobs in third-rate shops, auto repair, handing out flyers. But not him, his destiny is to be great, to reach heights. “If I try hard, in just a couple of years, I will become a department head like Sempai. And then I'll join the board of directors. Or maybe I'll open my own company and convince my entire group to come to me!

It will be great!!! The thought swirled around in his head for a long time. But the trial period ended and hopes crumbled.

There were more and more tasks. The quarterly report, which did not please the sales director, turned the work into a living hell. Many employees quit at this point, while Tomoki continued to work. In the beginning, he stayed in the office no more than once a week, then for a couple of days. Six months later, he could not remember the last time he spent the night at home. Sempai kept him company, it seemed that this was a difficult period that would come to an end, but things only got worse. Having gone headlong into work, Tomoki stopped communicating with his family, friends, even with his grandmother who raised him. Lost track of time due to dedication.

Goriki sempai began to pile more and more tasks on him, in fact, giving up his own. He stopped showing up at the office, only sending letters and occasionally dialing a kohai to express dissatisfaction with the work done and performance.

Tomoki became unsociable and was sent to the office with the same night workers, always plowing over reports, so as not to scare away newcomers who were just about to embark on this path.

He could resist and leave if he still had the strength to think. Everything seemed like a long dream. Life in an endless cycle of work, food, sleep. Occasionally, dreams woke up in his mind about rest, peace, a measured and happy life. But they quickly disappeared under the pressure of new notifications about imminent deadlines.

So today, everything was as before.

- Damn, the energy drink is over, you need to go to the machine and get more - Tomoki stood up and took a couple of steps towards the door. His head start spinning, and a terrible pain squeezed his chest.

- AH - Escaped from him. He could not breathe, feeling incredible agony. He wanted to call for help, but he could only moan through clenched teeth. Suddenly, the floor moved towards him and crashed hard into his face. Everything around him began to darken and the last thing he saw was a report on a blue screen.

“Sempai will kill me if I don’t finish it today” – The pain disappeared and the body felt so light – “Okay, I’ll take a nap for a couple of minutes, I would feel better…”
